The result of the Listed $25,970 QBRED Breeders Classic for two-year-old colts and geldings at Albion Park last Saturday proved a triumph for the Redcliffe Yearling Sale.

Five of the nine runners were offered at the 2021 sale with Mullum Axel, a smart type of gelding, and Regazzo Di Tilly, both bred by the Garrard family, finishing first and second respectively.

Changeover, the sire of the quinella pair, is owned by the Garrards, the sponsors of the Redcliffe sales series, and stands at Burwood Stud, a foundation client of the sale.

Hold Onto Ya Bling, bred by Margaret Donohoe’s Monarch Farm, finished third.

Two other Redcliffe Yearling Sale graduates in Cradock and For Real Life ran fifth and sixth respectively.

“It was a terrific result for the Redcliffe sale, the bargain sale of the country,” Darren Ebert, of Darren Ebert & Co, who conduct the annual sale, said.

The quintet will certainly be well in contention for the Group 1 $100,000 Garrard’s Redcliffe Yearling Sale Classic on June 26. The Group 2 $50,000 3YO Sale Classic will be held on June 17.

Regazzo Di Tilly, runner-up in the Breeders Classic, is out of Mathilda Diventa, a Redcliffe Yearling Sale graduate and the winner of the Redcliffe Sales Classic in 2014.

Manila Playboy, an impressive winner on the same night as Mullum Axel won, is a graduate of the 2019 Redcliffe sale, while the brilliant Tardelli, a winner of four of his five starts including the $110,000 Bathurst Gold Crown, was offered at the 2021 sale.
