Trainer Stu Kendrick is hopeful of increasing the stable’s representation for next month’s Summer Provincial Series Final when stablemates Coral Bay and So Invincible clash at the Sunshine Coast on Sunday.

Coral Bay will be ridden by Damian Browne while Luke Tarrant will be legged up on So Invincible in the fourth heat of Racing Queensland’s Summer Provincial Series Handicap (1200m).

The Kendrick-trained Deitch is already into the final after claiming the opening qualifying leg on his home track on November 4.

“Hopefully, these two can get into the final as well if they win or run a place,” Kendrick said.

“There’s still a few more heats to come before the final so we’ve got a few more chances yet.

“Deitch is already in the final after he won last start so he’s done his job.”

The Summer Provincial Series Final will carry prizemoney of $100,000 and will be run at Doomben on December 29.

The final three heats will be run at Ipswich on November 30, Dalby on December 11 and the Sunshine Coast on December 16.

Kendrick was reluctant to separate his pair but conceded So Invincible had a query on him at the start after he was slow away when sixth in his comeback at the Sunshine Coast on November 10.

“He ran a good race to finish sixth but he missed the start a fraction but recovered to make up ground,” Kendrick said.

“His first-up record is never his best and he always goes better second-up.”

Kendrick was delighted with Coral Bay’s return to racing when he scored a resounding win in Class Three company at the Sunshine Coast on November 4.

“It was his first run since May and he ran a class record that day,” he said.

“He’s a smart horse who we took to Sydney last preparation and he’s improved a lot.”

Coral Bay finished fourth to the Bjorn Baker-trained Goodfella in a Benchmark race at Randwick last October when he was found to have a throat problem.

“He came back and had a throat operation after Sydney and he’s going really well now,” Kendrick said.

“There’s not much between my two and it’s hard to split them but Coral Bay’s work has been good.

“Hopefully So Invincible can step away this time.”
