Racing Queensland will provide a $500 travel subsidy to Queensland participants who recently contested the Jump Off Finals in Victoria.

Having qualified in Nambour, 17 Queensland horses competed in the Channel 7 series, which provides a positive ‘life after racing’ opportunity for retired thoroughbreds to compete in show jumping.

Now in its second season, the Jump Off Series was expanded in 2019 to allow for all retired race horses from across Australia to compete in the national competition with $100,000 in prize money made available across three divisions. They were:

  • Just Raced ($50k) - Jumping height: 105cm

Open to any retired thoroughbred race horse that has raced or trialled within the last two years from the date of their last official race or trial.

  • Have Jumped ($25k) - Jumping height: 105cm - 115cm

Open to any retired thoroughbred race horse with up to but not exceeding 30 EA points.

  • Have Jumped Open ($25k) - Jumping height: 115cm - 130cm

Open to any retired thoroughbred race horse.

In the Just Raced division, Queensland’s Double Impact, which enjoyed his last start in May last year before retiring with nine wins and more than $500,000 in earnings, was one of just two horses to make two clear rounds in the Final and won because he had the faster time.

Owned by Wayne and Jackie Crompton – and ridden by former Olympian Ron Easey – Double Impact had only been in training for around five months.

“We’ve been re-educating horses for 12 years,” Wayne told the Courier Mail.

“All the horses that come through our stable, we find them homes.’’
