From Paris Kay’s first few days at North Maclean, trainer Graham Dwyer knew the Alchin stable had something special.

The QBRED trotter was originally trained by Jarrod Alchin in the southern states before being sent to Queensland to start her career in late August.

With Alchin’s brother, multiple Group 1-winning trainer Rickie Alchin, spending much of 2021 in the Sunshine State, it was considered Paris Kay would be sent to his barn, but with too many horses in work, she ended up with Dwyer at North Maclean.

“We were rapt to have her,” Dwyer reflected.

The Dwyer stable prepared her for to a 2-0 record in Queensland, and after returning to Jarrod Alchin, the daughter of Paris Pepperell heads towards the Group 1 Breeders Crown Series (2YO Trotting Fillies) Final this week at Tabcorp Park Melton.

She was dominant on debut at Albion Park before making it two unbeaten just under a month later at the same track.

“She went terrific here and is a lovely natured filly,” Dwyer said.

“Every time you worked her, she got better, she has a great attitude.

“At the start she was quite dour and tough but then she started to show a lot speed and now that she has that, she still has that toughness.

“Jarrod always had a big opinion of her, there was always big wraps on her.”

Group 1-winning reinsman Nathan Dawson drove Paris Kay in her two Queensland victories and he always rated her as a promising trotter while giving him a good feel, Dwyer says.

In the heats for the Breeders Crown Series (2YO Trotting Fillies) at Maryborough earlier this month, the square gaiter partnered with champion driver Anthony Butt, who had a massive winter in the Sunshine State, and ran second at massive odds.

“In her race the other day, she went excellent and I would not be surprised if she went well in the Final,” Dwyer said.

“It was terrific and she will only improve of that you would imagine.

“She will just keep on improving.”

In her short Queensland stay, Paris Kay claimed the third ever QBRED Trotters Final for two-year-olds at Albion Park.

Owned by Chris Tucker and bred by Trump Bloodstock, Paris Kay is by the champion Swedish trotter Sebastian K.

The Group 1 Breeders Crown Series (2YO Trotting Fillies) Final will be run over 2240 metres on Saturday night for $200,000.

Also at Tabcorp Park Melton this weekend, the Grant Dixon-trained Tims A Trooper will be gunning for the Group 1 Breeders Crown Series (2YO Colts and Geldings) Final.

Tims A Trooper claimed the 2YO Group 1 New South Wales Breeders Challenge in dramatic fashion late last month.
