Caloundra trainer Kylie Geran added another Country Cup to her growing resume when Chilli Beach claimed the Tara Cup on Saturday.

Ridden by Jason Hoopert, Chilli Beach lived up to her recent form on Gympie’s sand track with a 1-1/4 length win over Gud Onya in the 1400-metre feature.

Flying Charger was a further 2-3/4 lengths back, third.

Chilli Beach went into the race as a $7.00 chance and made it three wins from her past four starts after scoring at Gympie in August and September.

Favourite Run Louie Run could manage only fifth in the seven-horse field, three lengths away.

Chilli Beach is an eight-year-old mare and is owned by Geran's son, Corey, along with Wayne Lacy.

The pair have continued to race on with her rather than head to the breeding barn.

She has proven to be a good money spinner for connections winning almost $100,000 in prizemoney with seven wins and 19 placings from 65 starts.

“Every time Corey and Wayne think about sending her to stud, she keeps winning,” Geran said.

Geran and her husband, jockey Gary Geran, lived for many years at Mt Tyson near Oakey, north-west of Toowoomba before relocating to the Sunshine Coast three years ago.

“I've been training for about 15 years and Gary and I decided on a change of lifestyle," Geran said.

"We loved the country but Corey was starting University on the Sunshine Coast so we decided to move there."

Geran has trained a host of country Cups most recently with Walk To The Bar in the Betoota Cup in August.

“I’ve won quite a few country Cups including the Stockman’s Hall of Fame at Longreach in 2007,” she said.

“I took Walk To The Bar to Birdsville for the Cup and won the Betoota Cup along the way.

“I would love to win a Birdsville Cup but it’s a race which is hard to source so I don’t think we’d run in the Betoota Cup next time.”

Geran has no major plans in store with Chilli Beach but is likely to set her for the Wondai Cup in Gympie in two weeks.
