Better Reflection on track for Stakes races

By Glenn Davis

A beefed-up Better Reflection will continue her quest for more Stakes success when she runs in the QTIS Three-Year-Old Handicap at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

Better Reflection made a stunning comeback when she led all the way to down the highly rated Gem Of Scotland at Doomben last month.

It was her third win in four starts with her only defeat coming in the Magic Millions Classic at the Gold Coast in January when she was injured.

Better Reflection subsequently underwent surgery to remove a few spurs on her knees and was given a lengthy spell to recover.

Rockhampton trainer John Wigginton hopes the daughter of Better Than Ready can make it to the $2 million Magic Millions Guineas (1400m) at the Gold Coast in January.

But first, Wigginton has his sights on the Listed Mode Plate (1200m) at Doomben on November 30.

The filly already is a Stakes winner following her victory in the Listed Calaway Gal Stakes at Doomben last December.

Wigginton said Better Reflection had shown a marked improvement since her first up defeat of Gem Of Scotland who franked the form by winning over 1400 metres at Eagle Farm on October 12.

“She’s done really well and her coat has come on since her last win and she’s put on about 10 to 15 kilos,” Wigginton said.

“She’s a lot stronger and she’s dappled up and thicker over her hind quarters.”

Better Reflection has not been the subject of any sale offers despite her great record.

“There’s been no interest from anyone to buy her but if an offer came along at the right price, you’d have to consider it,” Wigginton said.

Wigginton has booked apprentice Nick Keal whose three kilo claim will help offset the filly’s big weight of 59kgs.

“I wasn’t really worried about her weight as she’d probably carry it okay but it is second-up and three kilos off will help her a lot,” he said.

“If she’s up to it, the Magic Millions Guineas is the ultimate aim.

“At this stage I’m taking it race by race but she might have another run at the Sunshine Coast next month before the Mode Plate.”
