Team Edmonds is hopeful Zac Attack can measure up as a Stakes filly next month by completing a hat-trick of wins at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

The Edmonds stable has booked jockey Robbie Fradd to partner Zac Attack in the QTIS Three-Year-Old Handicap (1200m).

Matt McGillivray has won on the filly at her past two starts at Grafton and Eagle Farm but has forfeited the ride to partner Queensland filly Spirit’s Choice in the Group 3 Furphy Sprint (1100m) at Flemington.

Zac Attack stamped herself as a filly with a bright future when she led all the way to hold off Rockhampton flyer Better Reflection over 1200 metres at Eagle Farm on October 19.

Zac Attack was a $320,000 buy at the Magic Millions sales and has only been beaten once in her four-start career.

The failure was against her own age group when she finished 9th behind the Michael Costa-trained Sukwhinder over 1000 metres at Eagle Farm in August.

“This is a much stronger field than last time and she’s up against some real quality opposition,” said co-trainer Trent Edmonds.

“She won really well last start when she beat Better Reflection and it was a great ride from Matt (McGillivray) who dictated the terms in front.

“She was nominated for the big spring three-year-old races in Melbourne but she’s been a little backward.

“Her form though has been very good apart from the day she went awful at Eagle Farm.”

Zac Attack bounced back to her best form when she was sent to Grafton following her Eagle Farm flop.

“She led all the way at Grafton before we took her back to win at Eagle Farm last start,” Edmonds said.

Team Edmonds could be in a dilemma if Zac Attack earns a crack at the Mode Plate (1200m), a Listed race for three-year-old fillies at Doomben on November 30.

“She’s still six months off being at her best and the Mode Plate is her immediate goal,” Edmonds said.

“It’s the perfect race for her to get Black-Type.

“She’s got a great pedigree and if she can earn Black-Type that will set her up for the rest of her breeding career.”

However, Edmonds said the Mode Plate was the fork in the road for Zac Attack who also is eligible for the $2 million Magic Millions Guineas (1400m) at the Gold Coast in January.

“The Guineas is in the back of our minds but we’re not sure if we will go that deep into her preparation,” Edmonds said.

“It’ll mean she would have had a seven-month preparation for a filly which is a mammoth task,” he said.
