The Queensland racing industry is being encouraged to get vaccinated ahead of restrictions being eased across the state in December.

Under Queensland’s COVID-19 Vaccine Plan to Unite Families, fully vaccinated people will be eligible to enter the state without quarantining prior to Christmas.

The roadmap steps through cautious and measured stages once 70 and 80% of eligible Queenslanders are double-dosed.

During a recent survey of more than 1700 Queensland racing participants, 68% of respondents were full vaccinated, with 85% having already received at least one dose.

The results compare favourably to Queensland’s state-wide* figures with 61.8% of the population currently full vaccinated, with 76.1% receiving at least one dose.

Racing Queensland CEO Brendan Parnell said while the figures were heartening, the best form of protection from COVID-19 was to vaccinate.

“The Queensland racing industry has done an incredible job navigating COVID-19,” Mr Parnell said.

“But with restrictions set to ease prior to Christmas, getting vaccinated is the best way for participants to protect themselves, their family and the industry more broadly.

“With 85% of participants having already received their first dose, we’re encouraging everyone to roll up their sleeves and to stay safe.”
