PRIMED FOR DESTINY – Stewards inquired into the horse's performance. Of particular concern was whether jockey Dale Evans could have improved into a run in the straight earlier than he did. After taking evidence from jockey Evans and viewing the patrol films, it was established that the horse had taken up a position more forward than its usual racing pattern and had been travelling strongly from the 600m, and near the 500m, jockey Evans, while aware that a run had presented itself between KHAANTANTES and OUTBACK LIGHTNING, elected to maintain his position until near the 400m as he was mindful of not gaining the lead at that stage of the race, given that the horse possessed only a short sprint. However from the 200m when placed under pressure it failed to sprint as expected. Jockey Evans further stated that the trainer may freshen the horse up. Stewards noted his explanation.
ABOVE US – Stewards will follow up with trainer M. Lehmann and rider J. Stanley regarding the horse's performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
