General

Trainer Robert Ayers was issued with a charge under GAR 101(2)(b), the specifics being that as a licensed trainer, Mr Robert Ayers did permit an unlicensed person to handle his greyhound during kennelling at the Ipswich Greyhound Club race meeting of 11 December 2018. Mr Ayers plead guilty to the charge.

In assessing penalty, stewards considered Mr Ayers unblemished record over 45 years in the industry, his forthright and frank admissions, his guilty plea at the earliest convenience, the need for a general deterrent for such incidents and also prior precedents for similar breaches of the rules. Accordingly, the QRIC stewards believed the appropriate penalty to be a monetary penalty of $500.

Acting under the provisions of GAR 95(3), the stewards elected to suspend $250 of this fine for a period of 12 months providing no further breaches by Mr Ayers under this rule. Mr Ayers was advised of his right to an Internal Review.
