SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT

From Toowoomba Saturday 29 December 2018 – Race 5: Trainer T. Sears advised that following its performance on Saturday night the gelding would be sent for an immediate spell.

GENERAL

As apprentice J. Murphy was injured and L. Dittman was not riding due to personal reasons, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

Race 1: HAPPY NEW YEAR FROM AQUIS FARM RATINGS BAND 0 – 65 H’CAP – 2450M

ANTIGONE – Steadied when tightened for room near the 2200m and again near the 2100m. Steadied from the heels of CHOPPA near the 1800m.

HIERARCHAL – Obliged to race three wide without cover over the final 800m.

KORMA – Rehandicapped an extra 1kg to 58.5kg after winning at Lismore on Saturday, 29 December 2018. A public announcement was made to this effect. The gelding underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start.

CHOPPA – The gelding was declared a late scratching at Doomben on Saturday, 29 December 2018 after the trainer notified stewards that it had sustained an injury whilst being loaded on to the float. A pre-race veterinary examination today cleared the gelding to start. Raced fiercely in the early and middle stages and near the 1500m shifted wider on the track and was allowed to stride forward to obtain the lead near the 1300m.

PERCIVALL POTT – Apprentice N. Fazackerley was unable to claim down to his riding weight and as a result was only able to claim 2kg of his 3kg allowance. As no other apprentice was available, apprentice Fazackerley was permitted to fulfil the riding engagement, however he was fined the sum of $200. In determining penalty, stewards were mindful of apprentice Fazackerley’s good record. Slow to begin.

CUSHTY PRINCESS – Momentarily held up approaching the home turn.

TIZABEE – Raced three wide without cover in the early stages and allowed to stride forward to obtain the lead near the 2000m.

Race 2: BOOK YOU NEXT FUNCTION @AQUIS BEAUDESERT MAIDEN PLATE – 1050M

Prior to the declaration of correct weight stewards reviewed the patrol footage to ascertain if there were grounds on which to lodge an objection on behalf of the connections of 4th placegetter MISS KREY ZEE as a result of interference by 3rd placegetter KRUGER leaving the 100m. After reviewing the patrol footage stewards were not satisfied that the minimal interference suffered by MISS KREY ZEE, bearing in mind the way both horses finished off the race, warranted a reversal of the placings and subsequently correct weight was declared.

DASHING OCEAN – Bumped and blundered shortly after the start. Overraced in the early stages and as a consequence raced three wide without cover throughout.

HARRY’S STAR – Raced four wide without cover throughout.

MONTE SANTO – Eased over the concluding stages when awkwardly placed at the heels of LOVE YA LAD.

HEAVENS STAR – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout. Checked from the heels of HARRY’S STAR leaving the 400m when that runner shifted in. Apprentice N. Fazackerley, the rider of HARRY’S STAR, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that leaving the 400m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of HEAVENS STAR, which had to be checked and lost ground as a consequence of being tightened between SPEND UP and HARRY’S STAR. Apprentice Fazackerley’s licence to ride in races was suspended for 10 days, to commence at midnight on Sunday 6 January and expire at midnight on Wednesday 16 January 2019. In determining penalty, stewards were mindful of apprentice Fazackerley’s good record.

SPEND UP – Slow to begin. Steadied shortly after the start when tightened for room between runners. Inconvenienced approaching the 100m by HEAVENS STAR, which shifted out to maintain clear running.

MISS KREY ZEE – Bumped leaving the 100m.

JACKPOT – After being loaded, got a hind leg cast in the barriers, underwent a veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Slow to begin. Improved on to the heels of DUBAWI SNIPER approaching the 800m and had to be steadied. Upon returning to scale apprentice N. Fazackerley reported that the gelding did not feel comfortable in its action during the race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.

LOVESON – Improved on to the heels of WILL’S BID near the 800m and when being steadied shifted out and raced wide without cover for the remainder of the event. Apprentice B. Nothdurft reported that the gelding hung out throughout the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings, however, trainer T. Lunney’s stable representative was of the opinion that the gelding may not have appreciated today’s firm track.

ZILITOR – Began awkwardly and shifted in.

HALLSIDE FANDANGO – Bumped near the 50m. When asked to comment on the performance, jockey P. Hammersley stated that the filly travelled comfortably in a handy position, however, when placed under pressure leaving he 300m failed to respond and in his opinion proved disappointing. Trainer J. Edwards was not completely disappointed in the performance as he was not completely satisfied with the filly’s trial leading into its first start back from a spell today. Nonetheless, he will arrange for the stable veterinarian to examine the horse, the results of which he report  back to stewards.

YABA DABL DOYA – Began awkwardly.

BON ROCKET – When asked to comment on the performance, trainer M. Lakey noted that the gelding had previously performed poorly when asked to carry a similar weight to that carried today. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.

Race 6: XXXX AUSTRALIA DAY @AQUIS BEAUDESERT CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1400M

After viewing the stewards’ patrol footage apprentice M. Murphy, the rider of BADGE OF GAMENESS, placed 3rd  by the Judge, lodged an objection against ODDFELLOW being declared 2nd, alleging interference near the 500m, near the 400m and again near the 150m. After reviewing the evidence, stewards established that the interference suffered by BADGE OF GAMENESS near the 400m was not solely attributable to ODDFELLOW as ANAKYN DARAXES was racing tight to the outside of ODDFELLOW at that point. As for the grounds near the 150m, stewards were of the view that any interference suffered by  BADGE OF GAMENESS at that point was minimal and inconsequential. However, stewards were satisfied that the interference near the 500m was directly as a result of ODDFELLOW shifting in at that point and as such were comfortable that the interference suffered at that point exceeded the official margin of a half length separating both runners at the finish and on that basis upheld the protest and declared correct weight on the amended placings of 5, 4, 2 and 8. At a subsequent inquiry apprentice J. Hodge was severely reprimanded for permitting ODDFELLOW to shift in near the 500m. In considering penalty, stewards were of the view that the racing manners of ODDFELLOW contributed to the interference suffered by BADGE OF GAMENESS at that point.

Stewards accepted trainer B. Hill’s explanation for the late declaration of L. Tilley as the rider of DUBAWI SNIPER.

GOOLBURRA GUY – Had to be severely checked away from the heels of SPEAKING BAD near the 500m and became unbalanced, almost dislodging its rider.

ODDFELLOW – Apprentice J. Hodge reported that the gelding hung in in the home straight.

RAYMAX – Began awkwardly. Had to be steadied away from the heels of YOUL BEATEM leaving the 600m. Steadied away from the heels of REEF KNOT near the 50m.

BADGE OF GAMENESS – Checked and lost ground when tightened for room near the 500m. Steadied near the 400m when placed in restricted room to the inside of ODDFELLOW, which was racing tight to the inside of ANAKYN DARAXES (C. Eaton). C. Eaton will be advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

BOBBY AXELROD – When questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance, trainer B. Robinson stated that the gelding was obliged to race wide at its last start and in his opinion it performs best when able to lead.

REEF KNOT – Became very awkward near the 500m and lost ground after shying away from the heels of BADGE OF GAMENESS when that runner lost ground forward of it.

SPEAKING BAD – Began awkwardly and bumped THE PONTSTER. Had to be checked to avoid the heels of REEF KNOT near the 500m, shifted out significantly and was then checked when awkwardly placed at the heels of THE PONTSTER and lost ground.
