Race 6: TAB BIRDSVILLE CUP OPEN HANDICAP – 1600M
Start of this race was delayed for an interstate event.
Prior to the declaration of correct weight stewards considered an objection lodged by the rider of the 2nd place getter, L. Tilley (ESCHIELE) against FRENCH HUSSLER (Apprentice C. Gallagher), being declared the winner, alleging interference over the final 100m. After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the patrol footage stewards found that whilst FRENCH HUSSLER did shift out over the concluding stages taking ESCHIELE wider on the track, they could not be comfortably satisfied that had this not occurred that ESCHIELE would have finished ahead of FRENCH HUSSLER at the conclusion of the event and correct weight was declared on the judges numbers.
ESCHIELE- Jockey L. Tilley was fined $200 for use of whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m.
