There was a delay to the start of race one as the photo finish was being tested. The photo finished failed for the day and judges’ decisions were made with video camera footage.
 
 
Race 1: SCHLUTERS BAKERY CLASS 2 HANDICAP - 1050 metres
 
RURAL REBAL – Connections requested to see the photo finish print for second & third place prior to correct weight being given. With the photo finish equipment failing camera footage of the winning post was shown & correct weight was given.
 
DRAGON IN THE NORTH – Slow to begin & slow into stride.
 
SO STUNNING – Declared a non -runner when the gates were extremely slow to open. Deductions were announced with correct weight as 12 cents in the dollar value of win bets & 14 cents in the dollar value of place bets. The gates were tested multiple times with no further issues.
 
OUR SAY – Stepped in nearing the 80m & corrected by jockey Emma Bell then ducked out close to the finish line. Jockey Bell stating she believed the horse resented the other horses being either side of her mount.
 
SAME OLD STORY – Slow into stride & travelled wide in the middle & late stages.
 
TENT LOVER – Underwent a pre-race veterinary inspection & cleared to race due to the lengthy spell undertaken by the mare.
 
 
Race 2: SPINKS CONCRETING MAIDEN PLATE - 1050 metres 
 
 
FREE DUBAI – Contacted shortly after the start.
 
SUPER SID – Jumped inwards contacting FREE DUBAI for several strides. Jockey David Rewald requested to see the photo finish print for third place prior to correct weight being given. With the photo finish equipment failing again, camera footage of the winning post was shown & correct weight was given.
 
DISCO LIGHTS – Slow to begin.
 
GROOVY CAT – Declared a late scratching at 2.23pm due to the pre-race manners of the gelding in the mounting yard. Trainer William Pugsley was advised the gelding would need to trial to show improved pre-race manners prior to starting again. Deductions were announced with correct weight as 22 cents in the dollar value of win bets & 23 cents in the dollar value of place bets.
 
MOUNT BENNY – Taken wider on the track shortly after the start to gain clear running and remained wide for much of the race.
 
OUR VERA – Bounded out of the gates.
 
 
 
Race 3: BARCOO BUTCHERY OPEN HANDICAP - 1050 metres  
 
Apprentice Cody Collis was the replacement rider for apprentice Alisha Ross when not being able to claim her full allowance on the gelding. Alisha Ross was reprimanded under AR143(14)(a) with all circumstances being taken into consideration prior to issuing a penalty.
 
ZUKAZ – Slow to begin & travelled wide with no cover for much of the race.
 
BEST GUESS – Over-raced in the early stages.
 
GENDEBIEN – Travelled wide with cover for much of the race.
 
 
 
Race 4: BLACKALL TYRE SERVICE CLASS B HANDICAP - 1200 metres  
 
SIZZALATING – Hung out rounding the home turn.
 
FLASH HOMBRE – Over-raced in the early stages and brushed with SIZZALATING on several occasions in the back straight. Apprentice Cody Collis was charged under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for his use of the whip on the gelding, 4 strikes more than permitted prior to the 100m. This was apprentice Cody Collis fifth offence under the rule and was suspended for seven days from midnight 2nd March 21 to midnight 9th March 21.
 
COUPE de VILLE – Dipped on jumping.
 
SURPRISE SELECTION – Underwent a pre-race veterinary inspection & cleared to race after a slight incident on route to the track.
 
NICKSY BOY – Travelled wide for much of the race.
 
HOT CHOCOLATE – Jumped away awkwardly & slow into stride.
 
 
Race 5: BLACKALL IGA BM 60 HANDICAP - 1200 metres      
 
ARCHADE – Travelled wide for much of the race.
 
LOUIE THE LEGEND – Jumped away into the barrier & reared nearly dislodging apprentice Cody Collis then travelled wide for much of the race. Cody Collis was treated by ambulance officials after the race for a bruised right knee & passed fit.
 
ZORRO MACHO – Jumped away awkwardly.
