Prior to the declaration of correct weight the connections of the second place getter ZOE IS THE BEST lodged a protest against the first place getter CHRISTMAS CHEER alleging excessive use of the whip over the concluding stages. After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the available patrol footage, stewards were of the opinion that although there was a clear breach of the rule by the rider of CHRISTMAS CHEER, the margin between the two runners was too great to warrant a reversal of the placings. Stewards subsequently dismissed the protest, declaring correct weight on the judge’s semaphored placings.

CHRISTMAS CHEER – Apprentice A. Thompson was fined $200 under AR.137A(5)(a)(ii) for his use of the whip more than five times prior to the 100m.
