Race 1: CHARLEVILLE RSL MAIDEN PLATE – 800M

The start of this race was delayed to enable the broadcast of an interstate event.

IRISH SPIRIT – Laid out for a short distance approaching the 700m.

GENERAL MO – Blundered at the start and lost ground.

KELSEY LAKE – Reared over in the enclosure and dislodged its rider. The filly underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to start. Jockey H. Phillips was fined $300 for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m. In determining penalty, Stewards took into consideration jockey Phillips’ recent poor record in relation to this rule.

Race 2: CHARLEVILLE REFRIGERATION & ELECTRICAL BENCHMARK 65 H’CAP – 800M

ALPHA ENA – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Inclined to hang out throughout.

Race 3: JONES SMASH REPAIRS CHARLEVILLE BENCHMARK 45 H’CAP – 1000M

SONA DANCER – Shifted in at the 900m and, in doing so, placed a runner to its inside in restricted room. Apprentice T. Townsend, the rider of SONA DANCER, was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances in the future.

SPIRIT’S FIRST – Bumped by another runner to its outside on jumping away.

JABBS – Raced in restricted room for a short distance approaching the 900m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

Race 4: RAHEEN STUD RATINGS BAND 0-50 H’CAP – 1400M

HEEBEE RIGHT MATE – When questioned by Stewards in relation to the seemingly disappointing performance, jockey C. Bryen advised that his mount resented the kickback in the early stages, and after getting to the outside of runners in the home straight, made strong late ground.

VISERION – Declared a late scratching at 7.45am as there was no rider available.

PART THE SEA – Raced wide without cover throughout.

GREAT SHINE – Began awkwardly.

GEISSLER – When questioned by Stewards in relation to the seemingly improved performance, trainer M. Johnstone advised that after getting back in the field at its last start, the horse resented the kickback and, in his opinion, it was better suited on the pace today. He added that the horse was also better suited on this track today.

Race 5: POWER IT CHARLEVILLE BENCHMARK 55 H’CAP – 1000M

The start of this race was delayed when WAKE UP SAILOR proved difficult to load. Trainer W. Pugsley was advised that a warning will be placed on the horse.
