Race 1: COOKTOWN TYRE POWER/GUNGARDE COMMUNITY CENTRE MAIDEN PLATE – 1000M

ANNIE LAUGHALOT – After being fractious in the mounting yard, was examined by the veterinary surgeon prior to the race and was cleared to start.

WE CALL HER LOLA – Slow to begin.

DUBAI ME A SAGA – Slow to begin.

RIVERSIDE KITTEN – Slow to begin.

AGUIAS – Raced in restricted room for a short distance near the 800m. Restrained near the 250m when attempting a doubtful run, then shifted wider to obtain clear running.

BATTLE MOUNTAIN – Raced wide for the majority of the race.

Race 2: COOKTOWN RSL MEMORIAL CLUB BRACELET QTIS RATINGS BAND 0 – 60 H’CAP – 1000M

DANCING DIVA – Shifted out near the 950m hampering runners to its outside.

STARANTE – Became unbalanced when buffeted between runners near the 950m. Raced ungenerously in the early and middle stages when resenting kickback.

VAMPERINA – Became unbalanced and shifted out when bumped by another runner to its inside near the 950m.

AMULETO – Shifted wider when bumped by another runner near the 950m. Correct weight was delayed when rider B. Thomson requested to view the photo finish. After viewing the print, she was satisfied with judge’s numbers.

LABRUSCO – Shifted in near the 950m tightening runners to its inside. Rider W. D’Avila was severely reprimanded, and advised to make a greater effort to keep his mounts straight in similar circumstances. In considering this matter Stewards took into account a shift outwards simultaneously from an inside runner which was a contributing factor.

OCTOBER STORM – Restrained and lost ground near the 950m when tightened between runners. Raced wide for the majority of the race.

Race 3: COOKTOWN HARDWARE/ARCHER RIVER ROADHOUSE OPEN H’CAP – 1000M

OUR ATOM –S. Pawsey was unable to make the allotted weight of 56kg and was replaced by W. D’Avila. S. Pawseywas fined the sum of $200.00.

FLYING ONE MORE – Slow into stride. Was reluctant to stretch out in the early and middle stages due to the kick back before shifting wider and finishing the race off.

ROCK SPUR – Slow into stride. Was reluctant to stretch out in the early and middle stages due to the kick back before shifting wider and finishing the race off.

BERAHT – Raced wide for the majority of the race.

Race 4: COOKTOWN FOOD & ICE SERVICES/MUSGRAVE ROADHOUSE/SEAVIEW MOTEL CLASS B H’CAP – 1290M

TRY BEFORE DUBAI – Fractious in the barriers prior to the start. Slow to begin. Raced wide for the majority of the race.

STYLE LINE – Slow to begin.

MIRACLES APLENTY – Slow into stride.

COOL ATTITUDE – Restrained off heels near the 800m. Severely checked near the 400m to avoid a fallen runner.

CAFFE ROMANO – Raced ungenerously in middle stages when resented kickback.

Stewards adjourned an inquiry to a date and time to be advised into the reason WHINGING WIFE faltered near the 400m and fell dislodging apprentice R. Shred. THE FRONTIER, (M. Kai) and MADEMOISELLE POLLY (Apprentice A. Bakos) which were following were unable to avoid the fallen horse and were both severely checked dislodging those 2 riders.

Riders R. Shred, A. Bakos and M. Kai, were all transported to hospital for further observation and will require medical clearances prior to resuming race riding.
The mare WHINGING WIFE was found to have sustained fatal injuries in the incident. Both the mare MADEMOISELLE POLLY and the gelding THE FRONTIER were found to be uninjured upon being returned to the enclosure.

Due to ambulance requirements and rider welfare, the remainder of the meeting was abandoned.
