As W. D’Avila did not attend today’s race meeting due to illness, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Summary Sheet.

Stewards inquired into the reason an unlicensed person rode a registered racehorse on a registered racecourse when not the holder of an appropriate licence. Trainer Mr K. Mearns pleaded guilty to a charge under LR43 in that he did allow an unlicensed person to ride a horse trained by himself on the Mareeba Racecourse on 20, 21 January 2019. Mr Mearns was fined the sum of $200. Acting Secretary of the Mareeba Race Club, Mr A. Holmes, pleaded guilty to a charge under AR22(1)(a)(ii), in that he did arrange and organise a licensed person, Mr Craig Holmes, to ride a horse trained by Mr K. Mearns on the Mareeba Racecourse on 20, 21 January 2019. Mr Holmes was fined the sum of $200. Both persons were advised of their right to an Internal Review.

Race 1: Cashcor Engineering QTIS 2yo Maiden H’cap 950m
EL OF A SAGA – Shifted out after beginning awkwardly, crowding another runner. Inclined to lay in under pressure down the running.
MISSION ROAD – Inconvenienced on jumping.
CRAIGLEA GRACE – Inclined to race greenly in the early and middle stages.
LOUD ‘N’ LOOSE – The gelding, which was resuming after a 4 month break, compounded over the concluding stages on the heavy track. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
Race 2: Fowler’s Group QTIS 3yo H’cap – 1250m
POETIC ATTACKS – Slowly away after beginning awkwardly.
SHUNTER – Slowly away.
CRAIGLEA ARION – Laid in, becoming awkward on the heels of another runner near the 950m, having to be corrected.
PURPLE GREY – Had to be restrained off heels near the 950m.
BANK TELLER – When questioned regarding the performance of the filly, jockey S. Wilson stated that his mount travelled well in the early and middle stages however failed to respond to his riding from the 600m. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Trainer Mr R. Chillemi was advised that BANK TELLER must trial satisfactorily prior to being permitted to race again. Mr Chillemi was also instructed to advise stewards should anything comes to his attention in the coming days that may have had a bearing on the horse’s performance today.
Race 3: Mark Dodge Motoring Maiden Plate – 1250m
DIAMOZU – Declared a late scratching at 2.08 pm on veterinary advice after being kicked by another runner behind the barriers. Subsequent to the event all monies invested on the horse were ordered to be refunded with the following deductions applicable.

11 cents in the dollar on the face value of 2nd place bets
14 cents in the dollar on the face value of 3rd place bets
Trainer R. Miller was advised that a veterinary clearance must be provided prior to its next race start.
SPEED LIGHT – Difficult to load. Slowly away after beginning awkwardly. Shifted wider when racing ungenerously near the 900m. Trainer K. Means was advised that the gelding would be required to trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start.
JUST A DRAM – Slowly away. Hung in in the middle stages. Raced wide for the majority of the race.
LINNET MOON – Raced wide in the early stages.
SECRET BANG BANG – Made the 1000m turn awkwardly.
KALELARGA – Inclined to shift ground when tiring over the concluding stages.
SHUDAKEPTIM – Jockey S. Wilson was reprimanded under AR132 for excessive use of his whip prior to the 100m.
Race 4: Jap Motor & Carby Centre Benchmark 65 H’cap – 1400m
GREAT PRETENDER – Began awkwardly.
CARLINO’S WAY – Laid in under pressure down the running.
SUPER MARIO – Inclined to lay in over the concluding stages.
SID THE KID – Raced wide for the majority of the race.
Race 5: Elite Real Estate Services – David Galloway – Penney Ratings Band 0-55 – 1400m
JUEUN IN NEW YOUK – Fractious in the barriers. Lost ground after beginning very awkwardly, causing jockey P. Cullen to become unbalanced.
JETINTOIT – Stood flatfooted as the barriers opened, losing ground. Raced ungenerously in the early stages. Trainer M. Jokic was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding’s barriers manners.
IRISH HEART – Shifted out to avoid heels near the 1000m. Raced wide for the majority of the race.
RATHDOWNEY AVENUE – Raced ungenerously in the early stages. Hampered by another runner near the 1000m. Raced wide for the majority of the race.
LAKOTA SIOUX – Raced wide for the majority of the race.
SHOT OF COURAGE – Jockey B. Pengelly was reprimanded under AR132 for excessive use of his whip prior to the 100m.
Race 6: Piccone’s Village On Pease Stree Open H’cap – 1250m
UNION JUKEBOX – The tongue-tie became loose on route to the barriers and was unable to be refitted. Raced wide for the majority of the race.
Race 7: Corey Machan Sheetmetal Class 3 Plate 0 1250m
HE’S BLESSED – Declared a late withdrawal at 4.44 pm after refusing to proceed to the barriers. Subsequent to the event, all monies invested on the horse were ordered to be refunded with the following deductions applicable.

ZERO SECRETS – Lost it’s off fore plate in running.
Following a storm which occurred prior to and during the running of this race, a delegation of senior jockeys advised stewards visibility was significantly reduced and acting on this, stewards abandoned the remainder of the meeting in the interest of safety.
Zarraffa’s Coffee Cairns Showground Ratings Band 0-55 H’cap – 1250m
MUST BE OBEYED – Declared a late scratching at 11.44 am after the horse refused to load onto its float.
Abandoned.
