SERIOUSNESS- Began awkwardly and bumped with another runner on jumping. Jockey S Kaya was fined the sum of $200 under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(i) in that he did use his whip in consecutive strides of 2 occasions prior to the 100m.

MCKENZIE WILL DO- Commenced to over-race approaching the 1200m and continued to do so until passing the 800m. Inclined to lay out rounding the 900m turn.

BRANDS HATCH- Raced keenly in the early stages. Took the 900m turn awkwardly. Placed under pressure from the 600m and failed to let down in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Trainer J Ryan advised that the gelding would now be retired from racing.

HOTBOSSAN (GB)- Raced wide until a point approaching the 500m. Jockey G Kliese advised that passing the 900m, when the pace was slow, it was evident he was going to be caught wide he elected to urge his mount forward in an effort to obtain a forward position closer to the inside running rail. However, at that point in the race, the pace quickened leaving him caught wide until a point near the 500m when he was able to obtain the lead and a position along the inside running rail. Stewards noted the explanation.

SHES A SINNER- Improved onto the heels of a tiring runner passing the 500m having to be steadied.

Race 3: MARK DODGE MOTORING CLASS 6 HANDICAP 1400m

CLOUT- Bumped with another runner on jumping.

PRESIDENTIAL JOY- Bumped with another runner on jumping.

AUTMED- Bumped by another runner on jumping and shifted in. Obliged to momentarily steady approaching the 500m after improving onto heels. Obliged to shift wider in the home straight when a runner to its inside was laying out under pressure. Jockey C Jokic was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances as a result of this incident.

Jockey B Pengelly was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. Inclined to lay in under pressure down the running. Raced ungenerously and wide in the early stages.

DESERT COWBOY- Obliged to restrain when crowded for room rounding the 900m turn. Whilst racing keenly shifted in marginally approaching the 600m bumping with another runner. Upon returning to the mounting yard was found to have bled from both nostrils in running. As this was the first such occasion Stewards, acting under the provisions of AR79, advised Trainer T Rowe that the gelding would now incur a 3 month ban from racing and be subject to a 1000m gallop in the presence of a Steward prior to racing again.

BACHELORS ART- Bumped by another runner which shifted in approaching the 600m. Upon returning to the mounting yard Trainer M Geaney advised that the gelding had gotten its tongue over the bit in running. Mr Geaney advised further that he now intended to experiment with gear on the gelding going forward.

The start of the race was delayed when SPEED EIGHT was examined by the Farrier at the barriers.

Declaration of correct weight was delayed when App E Cass, rider of 4th place getter EL OF A SAGA, lodged an objection against 3rd place getter ACADEMY HILL (C Jokic) sighting interference down the length of the home straight. After taking evidence from the riders and connections of the two runners and viewing the official patrol footage Stewards were of the opinion that both ACADEMY HILL and EL OF A SAGA were inclined to shift ground laterally down the running making contact on several occasions. Also CASH RAIDER, which had been inclined to lay out under pressure, shifted out on two occasions making contact with EL OF A SAGA causing that runner to be crowded for room. With this considered, as well as the margin of a ½ head separating the two runners Stewards dismissed the protest and correct weight was declared on the judges numbers.

Race 6: TOP TAX ONLINE BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 1500m

The start of the race was delayed when a stirrup iron on DIAMOND COUNTRY (App E Cass) broke in the mounting yard and had to be replaced.

CORPORAL- Slow to begin. Raced wide in the early and middle stages.

BON RUBY- Slow to begin.

MODERNISM- Slow to begin. Shifted wider from the 500m to improve. Inclined to lay in under pressure down the running.

Race 7: OPTIMUS 1 INSURANCE BROKERS CLASS 5 HANDICAP 950m

GINGER BEER- After beginning fairly was slow to muster speed and was placed under pressure early to obtain a forward position. Performed below market expectations. Jockey N Day advised that after beginning on terms with the field the gelding was off the bit in the early stages having to be ridden vigorously early to obtain a forward position and then failed to let down at all in the home straight. Jockey Day advised that, in his opinion, the gelding may benefit from being ridden with cover in a midfield position going forward. Trainer S Massingham advised that he was disappointed with the performance and intends to experiment with different gear prior to the gelding racing again. Stewards noted the explanations.

DANCING DIVA- Began awkwardly.

CHEVAUX- Knuckled on jumping.

SER SER SCHON- Was declared a late scratching at 5:36pm on veterinary advice when found to be lame in the near fore leg at the barriers. All monies invested on the mare were ordered to be refunded. Deductions applicable to bets placed on the winner and placegetters prior to 5:36pm were:

1  cents in the dollar for the win
4  cents in the dollar for the place of winner
3  cents in the dollar for 2nd place
4  cents in the dollar for 3rd place

Trainer S Coper was advised the mare would require a veterinary certificate of fitness before being permitted to race again

DOUBLE MAJOR- Slow to begin. Inclined to layout under pressure down the running.

WHYOULIKETHAT (GER)- Began awkwardly and bumped with another runner.

WRONGFULLY WRONG- Began awkwardly. Obliged to steady after improving onto heels passing the 800m. Shifted out in an effort to obtain clear running and bumped with another runner passing the 200m. Jockey C Jokic was reprimanded as a result of this incident.

GOLDEN HANDS- Bumped by another runner which shifted out in an effort to obtain clear running passing the 200m.

BEAT IT- Raced wide the majority.

Stewards inquired into the reason WHYOULIKETHAT (B Pengelly) was obliged to check approaching the 400m. After taking evidence from the rider involved and viewing the patrol footage it was ascertained that approaching the 500m GOLDEN HANDS (P Romeo) shifted in tightening WRONGFULLY WRONG (C Jokic), which then commenced to race ungenerously, and taking that runner in and tightening the running of WHYOULIKETHAT which was being ridden forward in an effort to retain its position. Approaching the 400m GOLDEN HANDS then shifted out relieving the pressure, however, before WRONGFULLY WRONG was able to be fully corrected MAKARIOS (App R Shred) shifted out rounding the 400m turn forcing WHYOULIKETHAT to be checked and loose ground. Jockey P Romeo was severely reprimanded as a result of this incident. In determining penalty Stewards were mindful that whilst the catalyst for the incident the inward shift of GOLDEN HANDS was not the sole contributing factor of the incident.

Declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow Jockey P Romeo, rider of 4th place getter GOLDEN HANDS, to view the patrol footage to ascertain whether grounds for an objection were present. After viewing the official patrol footage Jockey Romeo elected not to proceed with any objection and correct weight was declared on the judges numbers.
