GENERAL

After arriving on course Stewards upgraded the track from a Good 4 to a Good 3 at 12.15pm.

As R. Williams was not attending the meeting today due to injury, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary. Jockey R. Williams was advised that she will require a medical clearance prior to resuming riding.

Race 1: BOB LAFFY ELECTRONICS QTIS 3YO MAIDEN H’CAP – 1000M

The start of this race was initially delayed when DAME ELLIE proved difficult to load. Trainer P. Cox was advised that a warning will be placed on the filly for its barrier manners.

The start of this race was further delayed when MARYLEE became fractious behind the barriers and refused to load. The filly was declared a late scratching by Stewards at 2.29pm. Following the race, Stewards ordered that all monies invested on MARYLEE be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers:

0 cents in the dollar for the win #3
3 cents in the dollar for place of winner #3
11 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #7
11 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #10

Trainer C. Henry was advised that the horse will require a further barrier certificate prior to its next race start.

JETSEVENTEEN – Bumped at the start. Bumped rounding the home turn and, as a result, was forced wider on the track. Jockey B. Pengelly could offer no tangible explanation for the disappointing performance. Mr. M. Currie, the stable representative for Mr. B. Currie, reported that, in his opinion, the horse may not have handled the firm track conditions today. Mr. M. Currie undertook  to advise Stewards should anything come to light in the coming days which may explain the disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.

PAPA JO – Laid out in the home straight.

DAME ELLIE – Began awkwardly. Tightened for room near the 700m and, as a result, had to be steadied from heels. Hung out from leaving the 600m until straightening. Raced greenly throughout.

REAL SUPREMACY – When questioned by Stewards in relation to the seemingly improved performance, Trainer T. Sears advised that that he had been confident that the gelding could win its last start at Gatton based on its prior trackwork and jumpout, and he had therefore been disappointed with its performance on that occasion. He added that the gelding has continued to work well since that run, and he had removed the winkers from the horse’s gear, and added blinkers and a tongue-tie. He said that due to the gear change he had expected the gelding to improve today. Stewards noted the explanation.

GREY FACTOR – When questioned by Stewards in relation to the seemingly disappointing performance, jockey N. Tomizawa explained that, in his opinion, the filly did not handle the short back up, and felt flat in its run today. He added that the firm track conditions may have also contributed to the disappointing performance. Mr. M. Currie, the stable representative for Mr. B. Currie, could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance, however he agreed with jockey Tomizawa that the filly may not have handled the firm track conditions today. Stewards noted the explanations.
