GENERAL
 
Trainer S. O’Dea reported that KATY’S DAUGHTER, which had been nominated for the Magic Millions 2YO Classic, was found to have a chip in the nearside knee and would have surgery next week.
 
R. McMahon was examined by the Club doctor and declared fit to ride.
 
Race 1: MAGIC MILLIONS LIFE CHANGING BENCHMARK 75 H’CAP – 1110M
 
The start of this race was delayed when RICH AFFAIR was reluctant to proceed to the barriers. Trainer C. Meagher was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding.
 
BOOMWAA – Had to be steadied when tightened for room near the 900m.
 
COLINELLE – Apprentice B. Thornton was reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift in near the 900m when not fully clear of runners to the inside.
 
PRIORITISE – Jumped awkwardly. Brushed the fence near the 900m. An inquiry will be opened into the reasons for PRIORITISE having to check off heels near the 150m.
 
MY LITTLE FLICKA – Bumped and hampered near the 800m.
 
VIADUCTRESS – Slow to begin. Bumped and hampered near the 900m. Raced wide throughout.
 
JUST ORM – Became awkward near the 900m when racing tight to the inside of another runner.
 
RICH AFFAIR – Raced wide without cover.
 
DARKTOWN STRUTTER – Knuckled on jumping.
 
RAGAZZO DEL CORSA – Held up over the concluding stages.
 
STAR JUSTICE – Had to steady off heels near the 900m, shifted out and hampered runners to the outside.
 
Following the running of this event the track was upgraded to GOOD 4 retrospective.
 
Race 2: GOLD COAST YEARLING SALE RACING QLD SUMMER PROV.
SERIES FINAL H’CAP – 1350M
 
SAIPAN – Shifted out approaching the 1200m, taking runners to the outside wider. D. Lane advised that he could offer no excuses for the horse’s disappointing performance.
 
REALLY REILLY – Hampered on jumping.
 
VICTORY EIGHT – Raced wide throughout.
 
FIT FOR PURPOSE – Jumped awkwardly, shifted out and bumped another runner. Had to be restrained off heels after leaving the 1000m. Had to be checked near the 800m. Again had to steady off heels after leaving the 600m. Held up rounding the home turn.
 
DAPPER ONE – Raced wide without cover.
 
LEGENDARY LUKE – Restrained off heels passing the 600m.
 
MANDRYKA – Slow to begin.
 
SEQ THE STAR – Hampered on jumping.
 
DRIVING WHEELS – Jumped awkwardly and shifted outwards. Had to be checked approaching the 1200m when tightened for room between runners. Had to be steadied near the 1000m. Had to be checked near the 800m.
 
ZIP TO THE MOON – Raced wide without cover.
 
Race 3: MAGIC MILLIONS B.J. MCLACHLAN STAKES – 1200M
 
HOPES ETERNAL – Lost the off fore plate in running.
 
CROCKETT – Raced wide without cover. Taken wider leaving the 600m and again approaching the home turn.
 
PONY POWER – Steadied off heels near the 700m.
 
VICTORY LINER – Commenced to hang out after leaving the 600m, taking CROCKETT wider. Shifted away from another runner approaching the home turn, taking another runner wider. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the filly was sore in the near foreleg. Trainer K. Schweida was advised that the horse will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.
 
VERANES – Slow to begin. Steadied away from heels near the 900m.
 
Race 4: MAGIC MILLIONS FALVELON QUALITY – 1050M
 
BADAJOZ – Slow to begin.
 
STELLA OMBRA – Hampered shortly after the start. Trainer K. Schweida reported that the gelding lost the off fore plate in running.
 
IRISH CONSTABULARY – Hampered shortly after the start.
 
STRATURBO – Held up until after leaving the 100m.
 
HAVASAY – Made contact with another runner on a number of occasions near the 600m.
 
KHALAMA – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout. J. Byrne reported that the mare got further back than he had anticipated, raced wide, was taken wider on the home turn and he was not entirely disappointed with the effort due to the circumstances of the race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the mare had a slow post-race recovery.
 
TISANI TOMSO – Had to steady off heels near the 200m.
 
WICKED INTENT – Jumped awkwardly.
 
LAND OFFICE – Jumped awkwardly. Made contact with another runner on a number of occasions near the 600m.
 
FREQUENDLY – Hampered shortly after the start. Raced wide without cover.
 
Race 5: MAGIC MILLIONS SHOOT OUT QUALITY – 2200M
 
NIGHT’S WATCH was declared a late scratching at 1:51 pm when stewards confirmed that the horse was still in transit to the course. After interviewing stable foreman Mr T. Logan, stewards adjourned the matter to enable them to interview trainer D. Weir as to the reasons for the horse not being on course by the prescribed time.
 
MAGNATUNE – Jumped awkwardly.
 
Race 6: MAGIC MILLIONS THE BUFFERING – 1350M
 
MONSIEUR GUSTAVE – Raced wide throughout. Apprentice T. Brooker was questioned regarding her tactics in the early stages. She stated that she had been instructed to ride forward, however when caught wide she elected to steady and attempt to find cover, but the gelding commenced to hang out and in her opinion may be sore. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. Trainer D. Hansen advised that the gelding would now be spelled.
 
TORGERSEN – Shifted away from heels approaching the winning post.
 
WEINHOLT – Slow to begin.
 
PRIVLAKA – Raced in restricted room passing the 1000m and had to be steadied when tightened for room. C. Brown, the rider of I THOUGHT SO, was advised to be fully clear when shifting ground.
 
I THOUGHT SO – Held up rounding the home turn.
 
CARE TO THINK – Attempted to improve to the outside leaving the 300m but was prevented from doing so by TRUBIA, then altered course near the 200m and was held up until obtaining clear running approaching the 100m.
 
Race 7: MAGIC MILLIONS VO ROGUE PLATE – 1350M
 
CAPITAL GAIN – Raced wide without cover from the 800m. Hampered by runners to the inside at the entrance to the straight.
 
WHYPEEO – Tightened for room near the 1100m. J. Lloyd reported at scale that after jumping awkwardly the gelding was unable to take up its usual leading position and in his opinion did not run out a strong 1350m.
 
PIERATA – C. Brown pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that near the 1100m he allowed his mount to shift in, taking WHYPEEO, which was racing ungenerously, in on to CURDLED, which had to surrender its position to avoid causing interference to SPARKY LAD, which had improved to the inside of CURDLED. C. Brown’s licence to ride in races was suspended for 11 days, to commence at midnight on Monday 1 January 2018 and expire at midnight on Friday 12 January 2018. In determining penalty, stewards took into account jockey Brown’s guilty plea, that the degree of interference was mid-range and the contribution to the interference by the racing manners of WHYPEEO.
 
CURDLED – Tightened for room near the 1100m. Held up after leaving the 300m.
 
SPARKY LAD – Slow to begin.
 
SUPER EX – Connections advised that the horse would be ridden more forward with cover if circumstances permit. The horse was ridden forward and settled outside the leader.
 
PINCH PASSION – Held up after leaving the 200m.
 
I AM IMPINGE – B. Stewart was fined $300 for using the whip on 9 occasions prior to the 100m.
 
CELLARGIRL – Altered course to obtain clear running approaching the 200m.
 
FEMME FIREBALL – Disappointed for a run near the 300m.
 
DINNIGAN – Shifted out abruptly on jumping.
 
Race 8: MAGIC MILLIONS BERNBOROUGH H’CAP – 1600M
 
The start of this race was delayed some 5 minutes when CANTBUYBETTER and FRESPANOL had to be replated behind the barriers, and when CABEZA DE VACA, which lunged forward prior to the start being effected, making contact with the front gate, was examined by the veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.
 
CABEZA DE VACA – S. Baster reported following the event that his mount, whilst forced to race wide without cover, never travelled well throughout and eased over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. Co-trainer Mr A. Bott advised that after the gelding’s disappointing effort today, it may be spelled.
 
FRESPANOL – Momentarily tightened for room near the 600m. Held up approaching the 300m and then again had to alter course to obtain clear running near the 200m.
 
SOMEDAY – Slow to begin.
 
RUETTIGER – Jumped awkwardly and got its head up. Checked off heels approaching the 600m.
 
BRAZEN MOSS – Held up after passing the 400m and did not obtain clear running until the 250m.
 
MOUNT PANORAMA – Slow to begin.
 
Race 9: MAGIC MILLIONS NUDGEE STAKES – 1200M
 
CANDIKA – Raced in restricted room approaching the 400m and had to be steadied to avoid the heels of SHE’S MISS DEVINE, which was hanging in, and at the same stage as PEPPERANO shifted out when not fully clear of CANDIKA. M. McGillivray, the rider of PEPPERANO, was advised to exercise more care in future when shifting ground. Held up approaching the 300m and did not obtain clear running until after leaving the 200m.
 
BIDII BABE – R. Stewart reported at scale that it was not his intention to race in a forward position.
 
KINSHACHI – Raced wide throughout.
 
SHE’S MISS DEVIINE – Raced wide without cover.
 
STAR REFLECTION – Raced wide without cover.
 
OF THE DAY – Slow to begin. Briefly tightened for room after leaving the 400m and had to be steadied.
