SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT

From Ipswich 30 January 2019 – Race 4: Trainer T. Miller reported that SHE’S FAST had subsequently been found to be sore over the rump and lame in the off hind leg. Mr Miller was advised that a veterinary clearance will be required prior to the horse racing again.

Race 1: WWW.BRC.COM.AU MAIDEN PLATE – 1350M

Upon arrival at the barriers, at the rider’s request AMERICAN CAT was examined by the veterinary surgeon. AMERICAN CAT was subsequently withdrawn on veterinary advice at 12:56 pm when the gelding was found to be in a distressed state and striding short in the hind legs. On the announcement of correct weight stewards ordered that all monies invested on AMERICAN CAT be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers placed prior to scratching time:

38 cents in the dollar for the win #7
31 cents in the dollar for place of winner #7
33 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #3

Trainer T. Gollan was advised that AMERICAN CAT will require a veterinary clearance prior to its next start.

GRAND WHISPER – Bumped on the hind quarters at the start.

EVENING – Jumped awkwardly and shifted out, bumping the hind quarters of GRAND WHISPER.

GOTHIC ROMANCE – Slow to begin. Overraced in the early stages due to the slow tempo.

Race 2: LUNAR NEW YEAR RACEDAY QTIS 3YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1350M

HAFU – Raced three wide in the early stages before being ridden forward and assuming the lead near the 800m.

PEPPI LA FEW – Slow to begin. Held up approaching and rounding the home turn.

ALL DREAMS – Slow to begin. Lost ground near the 1100m when racing to the inside of PEPPI LA FEW. Had difficulty securing clear running from the 150 until the final stages.

FAVOR OF GOD – Raced three wide without cover. Had to be steadied near the 350m when tightened for room between FIZZ and EULEILAH, which shifted out when not fully clear. A. Spinks, the rider of EULEILAH, was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground.

FIZZ – Stewards questioned R. Fradd as to the reason, after being slow to begin and shifting out abruptly soon after the start, he did not elect to gain cover in the early stages at the rear of the field behind EULEILAH. Jockey Fradd explained that he did not think it was favourable to trail that runner and when the tempo of the race was slow he elected to race three wide with cover on the back of FAVOR OF GOD. He added that approaching the home turn he attempted to improve on FIZZ but the filly only quickened for a short time before weakening over the final 300m. Stewards noted the explanation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the filly had heat stress.

Race 3: BRC MEMBERSHIPS MAIDEN H’CAP – 1050M

Trainer B. Robinson was fined $150 for failing to declare L. Tarrant as the rider of STYK AT IT by the prescribed time.

DEEP STATE – Apprentice B. Nothdurft reported that his mount hung out for a major part of the race and passing the 800m was steadied from the heels of ASTROBABY and shifted wider.

OFF TO THE RIPPAS – Shifted in away from DEEP STATE when racing greenly approaching the 200m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a minor abrasion to the mare’s near hind leg, consistent with being galloped on.

RATHER SALUBRIOUS – Had to be checked near the 900m when tightened for room to the inside of OFF TO THE RIPPAS, which had a tendency to shift in away from ASTROBABY, which was also taken in by MCKINLAY MISS. B. Stewart, the rider of MCKINLAY MISS, was severely reprimanded and advised to give his fellow riders greater clearance in similar circumstances. Pulled hard near the 700m and had to be restrained from the heels of OFF TO THE RIPPAS. Briefly tightened for room near the 200m and had to be steadied.

STYK AT IT – L. Tarrant reported that his mount hung in badly under pressure in the home straight.

Race 4: TAB CLASS 5 H'CAP – 1050M

Trainer B. Robinson was fined $150 for failing to declare apprentice C. Bayliss as the rider of LWAZI by the prescribed time.

Prior to correct weight stewards viewed the patrol footage of the start to ascertain whether BASARA was afforded a fair start. After taking evidence from apprentice C. Gallagher and trainer T. Sears, along with Mr P. Cousins, the official starter, it was established that when the barriers opened BASARA reared and became extremely fractious, resulting in the horse missing the start by a considerable distance. After considering this, stewards were of the opinion that the horse was afforded a fair start and had every opportunity to jump away with the rest of the field. However, due to its erratic behaviour, this did not occur. Apprentice Gallagher subsequently eased the horse down and it took no competitive part in the race. Stewards advised Mr Sears that he must obtained a further barrier certificate prior to BASARA racing again.

TRUCULENT – Shifted out under pressure in the straight.

GOOD TIME CHARLIE – Became awkward at the heels of TRUCULENT near the 250m when that runner shifted out under pressure in the straight.

SIR MAGIC – Inclined to lay in under pressure in the straight.

ALWAYS SACRED – Slow to begin.

Race 5: GIRLS DAY OUT RACEDAY CLASS 2 H'CAP – 1650M

BERNIE’S TIGER – Raced three wide without cover in the early stages before being ridden forward to cross to the position outside the leader near the 800m.

WAKE UP VICTA – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the off fore tendon. Trainer T. Miller was advised that the horse will require a veterinary clearance prior to its next start.

RESET’S SON – Apprentice C. Bayliss was fined $400 for using the whip on 8 occasions prior to the 100m.

Race 6: PADDYFEST 2019 BENCHMARK 65 H'CAP – 1200M

SO INVINCIBLE – Slow to begin. When questioned regarding the horse’s performance, apprentice B. Nothdurft stated that after jumping awkwardly and settling at the rear of the field the horse was not suited when the race developed into a sprint home over the final 600m. He added that the gelding may be better suited racing on a bigger track with more tempo. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.

WINDS OF CHANGE – Trainer R. Heathcote advised that the gelding would be ridden in a forward position if circumstances permit. After being slow to begin the horse settled at the rear of the field.

Race 7: WEDDINGS AT BRC C,G&E CLASS 3 H'CAP – 1350M

FOXY AFFAIR – Slow to begin.

Race 8: SKY THOROUGHBRED CENTRAL F&M CLASS 3 H'CAP – 1350M
