Other Comments / Explanations:
The prizemoney shown in the racebook for Race 6 was incorrect. Racing Queensland confirmed that the correct prizemoney, in accordance with that advertised in the Racing Calendar, should be: Of $30,000: 1st: $16,800; 2nd: $5300; 3rd: $2800; 4th: $1600; 5th: $1000, 6th to 10th: $500.

Race 1 – Bay Building Services | Class 3 Handicap| 1350 metres
So You Wish – Sprawled slightly on jumping. Hung out after passing the 500m and continued to do so until straightening.

Emsie is a Star – Bumped on the hind quarters on jumping. Commenced to overrace after passing the 1200m when in a trailing position after being crossed by Cymbalism and got its head up on a number of occasions when being restrained. When asked to explain the instructions given, jockey Lloyd explained that it was the intention to lead if possible without undue pressure as the mare has a tendency to overrace, so after travelling a short distance he noticed that Cymbalism was being ridden forward in an attempt to obtain the lead and as he felt that the speed of the race was reasonable and the mare can overrace and was first up from a spell over 1350m, he was obliged to allow Cymbalism to take up the lead. He added that Emsie is a Star did still slightly overrace, however, he felt that it was his best chance to give the mare every opportunity to win the race. He further added that after passing the 200m he thought he was still going to win the race, however, the mare just weakened late over the final stages and will take benefit from today’s run. Stewards accepted jockey Lloyd’s explanation.

Cymbalism – Began awkwardly and bumped Tobacco Road.

Tobacco Road – Began awkwardly and was bumped heavily by Cymbalism. Laid in slightly under pressure in the home straight.

Race 2 – Advanced Building QTIS | Two-Tears-Old Maiden Plate | 1200 metres

Broncks – Became awkwardly placed at the heels of Concealed Dynamite shortly after the start and had to be steadied. Raced greenly after passing the 800m and got its head up and proved difficult to ride.
Soldati – Began awkwardly.

Centrefire – When questioned, J. Lloyd stated that after Sugar Boom began quite well and obtained the lead he had to pressure his mount to clear runners to his inside in taking up a position outside Sugar Boom in the early stages. He added that passing the 900m it was evident that Sugar Boom was being restrained and so as to comply with trainer C. Munce’s instructions that as he was on a fit filly he was not to allow the leaders to obtain a soft lead and therefore he allowed Centrefire to stride forward and obtain the lead. He further added that the filly weakened over the concluding stages and in his opinion may have come to the end of its current preparation. Stewards accepted jockey Lloyd’s explanation.

Concealed Dynamite – Raced three wide without cover throughout. Forced four wide after passing the 600m when Hit Snooze shifted out to improve.

Hit Snooze – Hampered on jumping. Raced greenly after being crossed in the early stages and got its head up when being restrained.
Deadly One – Raced greenly rounding the home turn.
Miss Cavallo – Tightened between runners on jumping. Improved up and to the inside of the heels of Deadly One rounding the home turn and had to be steadied for a short distance. When asked to explain the horse’s seemingly improved performance, trainer M. Nolan’s stable representative, Ms J. Barsby, stated that the filly performed reasonably at its first start, however, due to immaturity was sent for a short let-up. She added that upon returning to the stable the filly has worked quite well in recent weeks, including performing well in two jump-outs at Toowoomba and as such the stable were hopeful of a forward showing.

Race 3 - Steamatic | Maiden Plate | 1050 metres
The declaration of correct weight was delayed to afford trainer L. Gough and M. Murphy, the rider of 3rd placegetter Alderman, the opportunity to view the stewards’ patrol footage in the straight to determine whether they had grounds on which to lodge an objection against the winner Munich. After viewing the videos both parties indicated they did not wish to lodge an objection and correct weight was declared on the Judge’s placings.

Austell Bay – After being caught four wide passing the 800m and when being restrained in an attempt to obtain cover, shifted in, slightly inconveniencing Astrobaby and Coco Monsieur, which were both racing to the inside. The horse was then able to obtain cover after passing the 700m when Grace of Monaco went forward to race in a three wide position.

Coco Monsieur – Began awkwardly.

Munich – Bumped on jumping.

Astrobaby – Held up for clear running approaching the 400m and improved on to the heels of the tiring Hinterland Sam and was unable to secure clear running until a point approaching the 250m.
Grace of Monaco – After being caught five wide in the early stages pressed forward to obtain a position three wide as joint leader passing the 700m.

Styk At It – Hung in after passing the 400m.

Lashoni – Fractious in the barriers prior to the start being effected and then began awkwardly and shortly after the start was slightly hampered and tightened for room between runners. Held up rounding the home turn. Again disappointed for a run after passing the 150m and had to alter course back to the inside to obtain clear running. When questioned regarding the instructions given, jockey R. Stewart explained that the intentions were to race in a forward position just off the speed. However, after being fractious in the barriers and then hampered shortly after jumping, the filly settled further back than he would have liked. Trainer T. Gollan confirmed the instructions and added that it was his intention to have the filly ridden close to the speed with cover. He added that with the drop back in distance and the addition of earmuffs he was hopeful that the filly may settle better today as compared to her previous starts where she overraced and failed to finish the race off. After considering the evidence stewards were satisfied that, with a combination of the interference at the start, the addition of gear, the drop back in distance and the instructions given, the ride was not unreasonable and took no further action. Mr Gollan advised that it would be his intention to have the filly ridden in a similar manner in future starts.

Race 4 – Johns Lyng Group | Maiden Handicap | 1350 metres

American Cat – Bumped on jumping.

Taverne – Slow into stride.

All Dreams – Overraced in the early stages when being restrained to take up a position closer to the rail at the rear of the field.

Grand Whisper – Connections advised that the horse would be ridden closer to the speed if circumstances permit. Bumped on jumping and was then tightened for room and as a consequence raced at the rear of the field. Bled from both nostrils. The horse will be ineligible to start for 3 months and prior to resuming racing must perform satisfactorily in a 1000m gallop in the presence of a steward.

Loves a Lottery – Began awkwardly and shifted out. Raced three wide without cover for the majority of the event. Had to alter course to the outside approaching the 100m to obtain clear running.

Odin’s Folly – Bumped on jumping.

Bonney Lores – Commenced to race fiercely after travelling a short distance when racing in a trailing position and was shifted three wide to improve at the 700m.

Race 5 – Cowan Restoration Services | BenchMark 70 Handicap | 2240 metres

High Wind –Laid out under pressure over the final 100m. When questioned, jockey B. Stewart explained that his instructions were to be in a forward position and lead if possible and if at any time during the race the pace slackened he was instructed, if possible, to go forward and make it a genuine run event. Jockey Stewart added that after initially attempting to obtain the lead he was unable to do so when Underground had obtained that position in the early stages passing the 1600m and he was happy to take a sit on that runner. He further added that at a point passing the 1200m when Underground slackened the pace he shifted away from behind that runner in an attempt to assume the lead without pressuring his mount, in an attempt to comply with instructions given, and assumed the lead passing the 1000m. Stewards accepted jockey Stewart’s explanation.
Catch Me Latar – Hung in in the home straight.

Errol – Slow to begin. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

The Zoff – Had some difficulty securing clear running approaching the 100m and had to alter course to avoid the heels of High Wind and went to the line without being fully tested.
Following the running of this event the track was upgraded to GOOD 4.

Race 6 – Morse Building Consultancy | BenchMark 75 Handicap | 1660 metres

Green Empire – Put in an awkward stride and became unbalanced after passing the 600m.

Park Chinois – Laid in slightly after passing the 600m and brushed the running rail.

Trommelschlagen – After being ridden forward out of the barriers to obtain the lead, commenced to overrace in the early stages before being allowed to stride passing the 1200m where it led by a considerable distance.

Vaulting Ambition – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn and was disappointed for a run passing the 250m before obtaining clear running passing the 200m.

Eagle Bay – Bumped and tightened for room on jumping. Had to be steadied away from the heels of Green Empire after passing the 600m.

Zilitor – Began awkwardly. Commenced to overrace after settling in a handy position outside the leader in the early stages. Jockey J. Lloyd reported that in his opinion the mare raced too keenly and was unable to finish the race off. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.

Race 7 - Paynters | Class 4 Plate | 1050 metres

District – Overraced in the early and middle stages.

Raiden – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Had to be steadied when racing in restricted room passing the 500m when Another Slipper shifted in.

Mistoffelees – Hung out after passing the 600m for the remainder of the event.

Paper Trade – Began awkwardly.

Race 8 – Qld All Trades | Ratings Band 0 – 65 Handicap | 1200 metres

Smartypy – Overraced and hung in throughout, and at a point passing the 200m J. Lloyd had some difficulty shifting his mount out to secure clear running. The horse then continued to hang in and over the final stages jockey Lloyd had some difficulty riding his mount out.

Full Nelson – Trainer B. Smith advised that if possible it would be the intention to have the horse ridden in a forward position with cover if circumstances permit. Reared slightly as the start was effected, losing considerable ground, and therefore settled at the rear of the field. Held up rounding the home turn.

Zou der Zee – When asked to explain the improved performance today, trainer K. Kemp explained that at its last start the gelding overraced and the rider elected to shift wider on the track, which may have exposed the gelding earlier than he would have liked, which may have had a detrimental effect on the gelding’s finishing effort. He added that with the fast tempo today the horse travelled in a comfortable position without being exposed too early, which was consistent with its runs prior to its last start in which it perform creditably.

Nakanai – Began awkwardly.
