GENERAL:
 
Apprentice C. Gallagher pleaded guilty to a charge under AR188(c) in that he weighed out for Race 9 with a vest that was not an approved safety vest. Apprentice Gallagher was fined $1000. In determining penalty stewards took into account apprentice Gallagher’s forthright admissions and his plea of guilt.
 
Race 1: RAWGROUP HOSPITALITY CLASS 6 H’CAP – 1600M
 
VALENTINO ROSSA – Jumped away awkwardly.
 
HECTOPASCAL – Momentarily crowded for room near the 100m between VALENTINO ROSSA and GOLD AMBITION, which shifted outwards.
 
Race 2: MADAME WU QTIS 2YO H’CAP – 1350M
 
As R. Maloney was to be overweight, L. Tarrant was substituted as the rider of GOBSMACKED. R. Maloney was fined $300.
 
SNAZZ ‘N’ CHARM – Momentarily steadied over the concluding stages when crowded. When questioned regarding the run, jockey R. Fradd stated that he had a good run throughout, however, when placed under pressure in the straight the colt became unbalanced and disappointed when failing to run on. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.
 
SECUNDUS – Slow to begin.
 
GOBSMACKED – Checked over the concluding stages at the heels of SPURIOUS, which shifted out. Apprentice C. Bayliss, the rider of SPURIOUS, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) in that he allowed his mount to shift out whilst riding it along over the final 100m when insufficiently clear of GOBSMACKED, resulting in that runner having to be checked. Apprentice C. Bayliss’s licence to ride in races was suspended for 9 days, commencing midnight Saturday 13 July and expiring midnight Monday 22 July 2019.
 
ALLO ALLO – Proved extremely difficult to settle in the early and middle stages. Rider M. McGillivray reported that his mount felt sore in the off foreleg. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.
 
Race 3: CHU THE PHAT BENCHMARK 75 H’CAP – 2000M
 
CRUZ DE VEGA was a late scratching at 10:55 am by order of stewards acting on veterinary advice that the mare was lame in the off foreleg. Trainer M. Costa was advised that the horse will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.
 
HANG – Raced three wide in the early stages.
 
CONSTANTINE – Slow to begin after jumping away awkwardly. Lost the near fore plate in running.
 
Race 4: THE SPORTS HUB OPEN H’CAP – 1200M
 
AMANAAT – Steadied when PRUE’S ANGEL shifted in near the 600m.
 
DIVINE DICE – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be exhibiting the thumps.
 
OF THE DAY – Steadied off AMANAAT at the 600m.
 
PRUE’S ANGEL – Raced three wide in the early stages.
 
After a shower of rain the track was downgraded to HEAVY 8 at 1:50 pm.
 
Race 5: DUPORTH TAVERN F&M CLASS 3 PLATE – 1200M
 
THE GREAT BOOMBINO was a late scratching at 1:51 pm following the downgrade of the track to HEAVY 8. On the announcement of correct weight stewards ordered that all monies invested on THE GREAT BOOMBINO be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers placed prior to 1:51 pm:
 
2 cents in the dollar for the win #13
3 cents in the dollar for place of winner #13
9 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #15
7 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #7
 
ALEJANDRA – Severely crowded on jumping between OUR CHIQUILLA and DREAM KISSES, which jumped outwards. Raced wide throughout.
 
OUR CHIQUILLA – Became unbalanced on jumping after being bumped on the hind quarters by ALEJANDRA. Lost the off hind plate in running.
 
YEAHNAH – Jumped away awkwardly.
 
RED STINA – Slow to begin.
 
Race 6: CASA CIBO C,G&E CLASS 3 PLATE – 1200M
 
BOBBY AXELROD was a late scratching at 2:10 pm following the downgrade of the track to HEAVY 8.
 
ALL IMPORTANT – Jumped away awkwardly and in so doing made contact with SPARKY LAD. J. Byrne reported that his mount did not handle the prevailing track conditions.
 
SPARKY LAD – Bumped on jumping.
 
ARCHER’S TREASURE – Slow to begin. Shifted outwards abruptly near the 700m after getting up on to the heels of SUPERSONIC BOOM.
 
Following further rain, the track was downgraded to HEAVY 9 after the running of this race and again downgraded to HEAVY 10 at 3:10 pm after further rain had fallen.
 
Race 7: BEACH HOUSE ONE METRO WIN H’CAP – 1350M
 
APOLOBOOM – Bumped shortly after the start.
 
FAB’S COWBOY – Laid inwards near the 500m and had to be steadied when awkwardly placed on the heels of APOLOBOOM. Crowded and bumped by REAL EGO, which shifted outwards whilst being checked near the 300m.
 
POWERLINE – Slow to begin.
 
TOKORIKI LAD – Shifted in shortly after the start, making contact with HELLAVA BABE, which in turn made contact with APOLOBOOM.
 
LUCKY PROSPECTOR – Raced wide throughout.
 
REAL EGO – Had to be checked near the 300m when HELLAVA BABE shifted out. R. Stewart, the rider of HELLAVA BABE, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) in that at that point he shifted his mount outwards when insufficiently clear of REAL EGO. R. Stewart’s licence to ride in races was suspended for 9 days, commencing midnight Saturday 13 July and expiring midnight Monday 22 July 2019.
 
HELLAVA BABE – Bumped shortly after the start.
 
Race 8: BOTTLE-O CLASS 6 H’CAP – 1110M
 
Prior to this event stewards interviewed all riders who had engagements in this event. After expressing some concerns about their visibility due to kickback in Race 7, they indicated that with the field of only 6 runners in this event they were prepared to fulfil their engagements and reassess the situation following this race.
 
Trainer B. Dais was fined $200 for failing to declare L. Tarrant as the rider of STELLAR POWER by the prescribed time.
 
MOGADOR was a late scratching at 2:12 pm following the downgrade of the track to HEAVY 8.
 
AHWAHNEECHEE was a late scratching at 2:16 pm following the downgrade of the track to HEAVY 8.
 
COURTZA KING – Jumped away awkwardly. Raced four wide from the 700m.
 
DITMAS – Raced three wide from the 700m.
 
Following this event stewards interviewed a delegation of riders regarding potential visibility issues in Race 9 as a result of the prevailing track conditions, field size (14) and further rain falling. Both stewards and riders agreed that in the circumstances it would be unsafe to continue with the meeting and therefore Race 9 was postponed to a date to be determined.
