SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT

From Doomben 9 November 2019 – Race 9:

Trainer L. Wheeler advised stewards that LEGAL COUNSEL had pulled up sound from its run and will continue with its current preparation.

From Ipswich 19 July 2019 – Race 7:

As jockey L. Tarrant had been unavailable following the initial inquiry, stewards today reconvened that inquiry into his riding and handling of MILLY WILL PARTY, which finished 8th of 9. After considering evidence taken on the day from jockey Tarrant and trainer A. Plumb and perusing betting activities on the event, which revealed no concerns to the stewards, stewards were not comfortably satisfied that jockey Tarrant’s riding was in breach of the rules and therefore accepted his explanation tendered and took the matter no further.

GENERAL

As L. Tarrant was under suspension, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

Race 1: TAB QTIS 3YO FILLIES MAIDEN PLATE – 1200M

CENTRAL AMERICA – Improved to the outside of SO YOU BEAUTY and to the inside of LADY BRAHMOS passing the 50m where there was insufficient room, had to be steadied and went to the line without being fully tested.

LADY BRAHMOS – Apprentice J. Huxtable was reminded of his obligations regarding the height of his whip arm.

MISS TOO FLY – Lost the near hind plate in running.

RAKU’S SECRET – Slow to begin. Commenced to overrace approaching the 900m when in a rearward position and got its head up when being restrained.

SALINA – Raced three wide without cover throughout. Bumped by LADY BRAHMOS approaching the 600m when that runner endeavoured to shift out to improve and passing the 500m was forced wider by LADY BRAHMOS when it did shift out to improve. When asked to comment, jockey R. Fradd explained that he was unable to find a position with cover and was caught wide, however, in his opinion, even though the filly was forced to travel wide, it proved disappointing over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

SHE’S OUR RIPPA – Proved difficult to load, delaying the start.

Race 2: MEMBERSHIPS @ BRC QTIS 3YO C&G MAIDEN PLATE – 1200M

After viewing the stewards’ patrol footage, R. Wiggins, the rider of PICTON, placed 2nd by the Judge, lodged an objection against WAPITI (S. Cormack) being declared the winner, alleging interference near the 200m. After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the videos it was established that approaching the 200m a run had presented itself to PICTON and that shortly after WAPITI did shift in, resulting in PICTON having to be checked and alter course. However, stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that the amount of ground lost by PICTON in the incident exceeded the margin of 1¼ lengths separating both runners at the finish, and therefore dismissed the objection and declared correct weight on the Judge’s placings.

ALL JEED UP – Raced three wide without cover throughout. Forced wider on the course passing the 500m by VALET, which shifted out to improve.

KING’S RULE – Proved difficult to load, delaying the start.

PICTON – Had to be checked and lost ground passing the 200m when tightened for room by WAPITI, which shifted in, and then had to alter course to the outside to secure clear running. S. Cormack, the rider of WAPITI, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) in that at that point he allowed his mount to shift in under riding when insufficiently clear of PICTON. Jockey Cormack’s licence to ride in races was suspended for 9 days, commencing midnight Saturday 16 November and expiring midnight Monday 25 November 2019.

STUTTERING – Began awkwardly. Raced greenly passing the 250m and laid in before being corrected by its rider.

VALET – Began awkwardly. Improved on to heels when in a trailing position approaching the 800m and had to be restrained.

WAPITI – Bumped on jumping. Held up rounding the home turn.

Race 3: BIG SCREEN ON THE GREEN C,G&E CLASS 3 H'CAP – 1350M

BLUE COMET – Commenced to overrace after passing the 1100m when racing in a one-wide position and was shifted three wide. Forced wider on the track passing the 500m by SPIRIT ESPRIT, which was forced wider after being taken wider by LUCKY JACKSON, which shifted out. When asked to comment on the performance, jockey M. Hellyer explained that the gelding raced in its normal position towards the rear of the field, however, overraced in the early stages due to the slow tempo and when asked to improve into the race passing the 600m the tempo quickened and the gelding was left flat-footed and unable to finish the race off. Jockey Hellyer was of the opinion that his mount may not have been suited by today’s tempo and believed that the horse would be better suited when racing on a bigger track.

ZIEMBA – J. Orman was reminded of his obligations regarding use of the whip prior to the 100m.

SPIRIT ESPRIT – Slow to muster speed in the early stages. Laid in under pressure over the final 100m.

Race 4: SOCIETY ROKU GIN NYE PARTY F&M CLASS 3 H'CAP – 1350M

The start of this race was delayed when, after all runners had been loaded, VIENNA MOON, which became fractious in the barriers and reared, was removed, examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to start and had to be resaddled prior to being reloaded.

DUCHESS DASHALOT – Trainer K. Schweida advised that the mare would now be sent for a spell.

SOJOURNIST – After passing the 1200m, whilst racing in a midfield position four wide, was restrained by its rider to the rear of the field to find a position closer to the rail. Improved on to heels approaching the 50m, had to be eased and went to the line without being fully tested.

CHARWAY – Raced in restricted room between the 700m and the 500m to the inside of THE LAST SEQUALO. Crowded for room and had to be steadied approaching the 400m when THE LAST SEQUALO laid in.

THE LAST SEQUALO – Raced three wide without cover throughout. Laid in approaching the 400m despite the efforts of its rider.

Race 5: SOUTHS SPORTS CLUB MAIDEN H'CAP – 1350M

The start of this race was delayed when HOSTILE STAR, which was fractious in the enclosure and again leaving the enclosure, making contact with the outside rail, underwent a veterinary examination after arriving at the barriers and was cleared to start. Trainer C. Munce was advised that a warning would be placed on the horse’s pre-race manners.

TOUGH DECISION – Began awkwardly. Raced three wide without cover. Was awkwardly placed at the heels of CHAMPAGNE TOOTS approaching the 700m and forced four wide when that runner shifted out to improve. M. McGillivray, the rider of CHAMPAGNE TOOTS, was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.

EVER SPRING – Had to be steadied shortly after the start when tightened for room by CHAMPAGNE TOOTS, which shifted in, and approaching the 1200m commenced to overrace and had to be restrained from heels. M. McGillivray, the rider of CHAMPAGNE TOOTS, was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. Had some difficulty securing clear running after passing the 200m.

VALIDAR – After being caught wide in the early stages was restrained by its rider towards the rear of the field to obtain a position closer to the rail. Held up rounding the home turn. Had some difficulty securing clear running in the home straight.

JOY’S REWARD – Overraced when racing in a three wide position with cover. Had to be steadied approaching the 600m when awkwardly placed at the heels of TOUGH DECISION.

HOSTILE STAR – Slow to begin.

KALLIE – Hampered shortly after the start. Raced three wide without cover in the early stages before striding forward to obtain a position outside the lead passing the 800m.

CAIRNDOW – Held up rounding the home turn.

Race 6: WEDDINGS AT BRC CLASS 4 H'CAP – 1660M

CAPTIVATOR – Bumped and crowded for room by DIXIE PREACHER, which was bumped inwards by MISS SARA, which shifted in on jumping.

GO DIXIE – Severely crowded for room on jumping, checked and lost ground.

DIXIE PREACHER – Bumped and crowded for room by MISS SARA, which shifted in on jumping.

MISS SARA – Began awkwardly and shifted in abruptly, tightening runners to the inside.

NO REFUND – Held up rounding the home turn.

ROSENDAHL RED – Crowded for room and lost ground on jumping. Raced in a rearward position three wide without cover.

BULLET SHOT – Bumped on the hindquarters shortly after the start by GO DIXIE and turned outwards.

Race 7: BRC CHRISTMAS GIFT GUIDE OPEN H'CAP – 1350M

Prior to the declaration of correct weight E. Ljung and trainer M. Currie made an application for SIMPLY SPLASHING to be declared a non-runner as in their opinion the horse had been denied a fair start. After taking evidence from both parties and the starters and viewing the video it was established that just prior to the start SIMPLY SPLASHING had got its head down, resulting in jockey Ljung not having full control of the reins, and a barrier attendant still had hold of the offside rein. In the circumstances, acting under AR204(1)(c), stewards ruled the horse to be a non-runner as it had been denied a fair start. On the announcement of correct weight stewards ordered that all monies invested on SIMPLY SPLASHING be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers:

4 cents in the dollar for the win #3
5 cents in the dollar for place of winner #3
4 cents in the dollar for the win #4
3 cents in the dollar for place of winner #4
6 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #5

TAWFIQ BOY – Commenced to overrace when the pace steadied passing the 900m. Had to be steadied away from heels passing the 500m. Laid in in the early stages of the home straight.

TARBERT – Stewards accepted the reasons for the late declaration of R. Fradd as rider. Commenced to overrace for a short distance when racing in restricted room to the inside of TAWFIQ BOY when the pace steadied passing the 900m. Held up rounding the home turn.

BODEGA NEGRA – Raced three wide without cover throughout.

STELLA OMBRA – J. Byrne reported that it was not his intention to lead, but after beginning well and finding himself in the lead he attempted to restrain to allow R. Palmer, the rider of SHAUQUIN, which was racing to his outside, to take up the lead if she wished, but that runner continued to race to his outside and therefore he attempted to dictate the speed as best as he could.

DESMON’S PRIDE – Held up rounding the home turn.
