GENERAL
 
After the running of Race 4 jockey J. Bayliss reported to stewards that he was experiencing some discomfort in his hips. Jockey Bayliss was examined by the Club doctor and cleared to fulfil his remaining engagements.
 
Race 1: TAB BENCHMARK 80 H'CAP – 1050M
 
PUBLISHING POWER – Held up for clear running approaching the home turn.
 
WONDER BOOM – Raced three wide throughout.
 
ONE STRYKE – A post-race veterinary examination established that the gelding had sustained abrasions to the near hind leg consistent with being galloped on.
 
BOLD CHANCE – Dipped on jumping. Improved on to the heels of ONE STRYKE leaving the 600m and shifted wider.
 
DEFENCE MISSILE – Raced three wide and then when leaving the 600m was momentarily forced wider on the course and continued to race wide for the remainder of the event.
 
PAPA JO – Dipped on jumping. Shifted out under pressure over the final 250m under hard riding.
 
THE GREAT BOOMBINO – Began awkwardly. Raced three wide until a point approaching the 450m.
 
Race 2: MITTY’S BENCHMARK 78 H'CAP – 2020M
 
HAPPY GO PLUCKY – Bumped on the line when DISSOLUTION shifted out.
 
ADVANCE WARNING – Raced keenly in the early stages.
 
SPEAKING BAD – Fractious in the gates, then bounded on jumping.
 
CHAMPAGNE VEGA – After settling in a rearward position its rider then elected to improve three wide passing the 800m.
 
TEMUJIN’S RULE – Raced three wide in the early stages until reaching the position outside the leader near the 1400m. Approaching the home turn was steadied from the heels of DISSOLUTION, which shifted out to improve.
 
PARIS CRYSTAL – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination on arrival on course and it was determined that the mare had sustained mild abrasions to both hips and its nearside neck and was passed fit to race.
 
Race 3: TAB F&M BENCHMARK 72 H'CAP – 1200M
 
The declaration of correct weight was delayed to afford J. Orman, the rider of 4th placegetter I AM VENUS, an opportunity to review the footage in the home straight in relation to lodging a possible objection. After viewing the videos jockey Orman elected not to proceed with any protest.
 
SHAMURT – Tightened between runners on jumping and lost ground. Disappointed for a run near the 300m when MOONAN JOYCE shifted out, then held up to a point approaching the 100m before being obliged to shift wider on the course to secure clear running.
 
MOONAN JOYCE – Shifted in on jumping. Shifted out near the 300m, inconveniencing SHAMURT.
 
CHAMPAGNE DAISY – Began awkwardly. Inclined to overrace in the early and middle stages.
 
SKYE AND ME – Shifted in on jumping.
 
ZARAFET – Overraced in the early stages. Rider A. Spinks reported that the mare was inclined to hang out throughout the event, particularly in the home straight.
 
Race 4: XXXX DRY C,G&E BENCHMARK 72 H'CAP – 1200M
 
MOSCINI – Had difficulty obtaining clear running in the home straight.
 
PATCHES – Shifted out on jumping and bumped with another runner.
 
THE SINNER  – Held up for clear running approaching the home turn.
 
DEPTHS BELOW – Shifted in on jumping and bumped with another runner.
 
PERFECT AIM – Raced three wide throughout.
 
MAKE A RULER – Raced three wide with cover.
 
TREVELLO – Began awkwardly. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
Race 5: TAB BENCHMARK 85 H'CAP – 1350M
 
TAWFIQ BOY – Overraced and steadied near the 800m.
 
BOLD WARRIOR – As apprentice N. Keal was not riding due to being unable to obtain a medical clearance, apprentice J. Murphy was substituted as the rider of the gelding. Apprentice J. Murphy advised post-race that the gelding did not travel well throughout the event and failed to respond when placed under pressure. A post-race veterinary examination determined that the gelding coughed on several occasions.
 
INQUIRY – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages when leading.
 
ENTERPRISE PRINCE – A veterinary examination following the event determined that the colt had a slow post-race recovery.
 
FASANO – Slow into stride.
 
Race 6: ROKU GIN QTIS 2YO PLATE – 1110M
 
The start of this race was delayed in excess of 5 minutes when AVIEMORE refused to load and was declared a late scratching at 2:30 pm. Trainer Mr B. Lockwood was advised that the filly would be required to gain another barrier certificate prior to competing again. On the announcement of correct weight stewards ordered that all monies invested on AVIEMORE be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers placed prior to 2:30 pm:
 
6 cents in the dollar for the win #7
3 cents in the dollar for place of winner #7
8 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #5
11 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #8
 
KAVAK – Began awkwardly and shifted out.
 
THE BROTHERHOOD – Began awkwardly and then was buffeted between runners.
 
ZINGALONG – Raced keenly in the early stages.
 
DUSTY TYCOON – Began awkwardly and shifted in.
 
HAMILTON HILL – As R. Maloney was unable to make the weight, he was replaced by M. Du Plessis. Jockey Maloney was fined $200.
 
PLUTOCRAT – Trainer C. Anderson advised that from today’s wide gate the preferred intention will be to settle the horse towards the rear of the field. The horse was ridden accordingly, however, when restrained to a rearward position, overraced significantly and proved difficult to settle before shifting wider near the 900m and then continued to overrace for some distance.
 
SWEET RHAPSODY – Obliged to steady from heels near the 600m and overraced when the tempo eased, then again was obliged to steady from the heels of GOLDSBOROUGH approaching the home turn.
 
Race 7: SKY RACING DOOMBEN GUINEAS (3YO) – 1615M
 
PROFIT – Bumped as the start was effected and shortly thereafter was buffeted between runners.
 
BALLISTIC BOY – Began awkwardly and shifted in. Shifted in marginally under hard riding near the 100m.
 
SMART METEOR – Buffeted between runners on jumping.
 
DON’T WAIVER – Shifted out on jumping.
 
IMPACTFUL – Eased at the start from the wide gate.
 
GRENADIERS – Raced keenly in the early stages and then was obliged to race three wide throughout.
 
VANNA GIRL – Began awkwardly and shifted out. Overraced for a short distance when being restrained to obtain cover near the 1400m.
 
CELLARMAID – Eased at the start from the wide gate and then was obliged to race three wide with cover.
 
MEYER – Buffeted between runners on jumping.
 
MISS GEM – Bumped on jumping.
 
MISS PENFOLD – Eased at the start from the wide gate.
 
Race 8: TAB BRC SPRINT – 1200M
 
VICTOREM – Bumped as the start was effected and commenced to buck for some distance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer J. Graham was advised that the gelding would be required to trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to returning to the races.
 
TYZONE – Inconvenienced as the start was effected and lost ground.
 
SESAR – Bumped at the start. Commenced to overrace and improved on to the heels of VICTOREM leaving the 800m and was steadied.
 
MISHANI HUSTLER – Began awkwardly and shifted in.
 
Race 9: ASCOT GREEN BENCHMARK 80 H'CAP – 1615M
 
COGLIERE – Proved very difficult to load, delaying the start. Trainer Mr M. Quinn was advised that  a barrier certificate would be required prior to the gelding returning to the races.
 
TOKORIKI LAD – Bumped with CANAPES on a number of occasions near the 900m. Approaching the 400m, when placed under hard riding, improved on to the heels of the tiring SHAUQUIN before shifting wider to secure clear running.
 
SHAUQUIN – Fractious in the gates, then shifted in on jumping.
 
PRESSWAY – Raced three wide throughout.
 
ECKER ROAD – Began awkwardly and shifted in.
 
MYMMING – Raced three wide with cover.
 
OCEAN ADDICT – Slow into stride.
 
CANAPES – Began awkwardly and shifted out. Bumped with TOKORIKI LAD on a number of occasions near the 900m.
 
ERRINGHI SPRING – Bumped as the start was effected.
 
SO DAPPER – Inconvenienced as the start was effected and lost ground, then commenced to overrace and was caught three wide in the early stages.
