GENERAL

Breath and urine samples from eleven riders competing at today’s meeting were taken.
All breath tests returned negative results.

Race 1: TAB VENUE MODE Maiden Plate 1050 metres

COALBANK CAVALRY – Held up for clear running from the 200 metres to the finish line when attempting a narrow run to the inside of MAIL TRAIN MAID.

NORSE MYTHOLOGY – Raced three wide without cover throughout.

OVIDIUS – Reared as the start was effected and lost ground. Held up in the early stages of the home straight.

ZOUKINA – Raced three wide with cover throughout.

CONTESSA – Slow to begin.

MA PETITE AMIE – Over raced in the early stages.

SHE'S A ROCKET – Over raced in the early stages. Raced greenly over final 300 metres when placed under pressure.


Race 2: HELLBENT FIRST CROP AT MAGIC MILLIONS Maiden Plate 1640 metres

A BIG CHANCE – Began awkwardly and bumped XTRA REWARD.

ALL TOO NATURAL – Held up rounding the home turn when awkwardly placed at the heels of XTRA REWARD.

HOLLYWOOD AL – Hampered at the start when tightened for room.

SAN BERNARDINO – Hampered at the start when tightened for room. Rider reported the gelding hung in for majority of the race. A post-race veterinary examination of SAN BERNARDINO revealed no abnormalities.

TWO SMOKIN BARRELS – Jumped in at the start.

DELAYED LAUNCH (NZ) – Hung out near the 1300 metres forcing EULEILAH wider on the track.

EULEILAH – Forced wider near the 1300 metres.

XTRA REWARD – Bumped at the start. Rider reported the mare did not appreciate today’s prevailing track conditions.


Race 3: SKY RACING QTIS 3-Y-O Maiden Plate 1200 metres

ANSELMO – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Steadied from heels and shifted out near the 800 metres. Taken out near 250 metres.

BUNDYANDCOKE – Slow to begin. Near 1000 metres improved to inside of the heels of ANSELMO where there was doubtful room and had to be restrained. Near 700 metres when over-racing had to be restrained off the heels of HE KNOWS. Raced greenly under pressure in the home straight.

KUDU – Near the 250 metres shifted out under pressure before being corrected by its rider resulting in ANSELMO being taken out and CALL ME MAGGIE having to be steadied.

THE CULLINAN – Began awkwardly. Passing the 900 metres raced fiercely when in restricted room to the inside of ENTERPRISE MIA. Near 800 metres checked when tightened between ANSELMO, which shifted out after steadying off the heels of KUDU, and ENTERPRISE MIA which shifted in slightly. KEEN AS A BEAN which was following was also checked in consequence.

CALL ME MAGGIE – Steadied passing the 250 metres.

ENTERPRISE MIA – Held up rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight.

IN ORDER – Raced three wide with cover.

KEEN AS A BEAN – Raced three wide with cover. Checked near the 800 metres. Weakened badly in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination of KEEN AS A BEAN revealed no abnormalities.

LARAINA – Raced three wide without cover throughout.

Race 4: CASCADE QTIS 3-Y-O Maiden Plate 1200 metres

BEANHUGGED – As had not started for an extended period of time underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start.

MORE TO ADORE (NZ) – Bumped at the start. Over-raced in the early stages. Passing the 600 metres shifted to improve and bumped I PROMISE YOU. Rider B Stewart reported MORE TO ADORE did not feel comfortable in its action and for this reason did not pressure his mount over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities other than a slow post-race recovery. In light of today’s poor performance, trainer T Gollan advised he would be undertaking veterinary tests in the coming days and report those findings to Stewards.

ABOVE THE LOT – Bumped on the hindquarters shortly after the start and became unbalanced. Inconvenienced near the 200 metres when SPRESSI shifted in.

DAPHNE FRANCES – Raced three wide for majority of the event.

I PROMISE YOU – Bumped at the start. Raced three wide for majority of the event. Forced wider from the 600 metres.

KALIYA – From a wide barrier was restrained to a position closer to the rail. Passing the 600 metres attempted to improve between ABOVE THE LOT and PASSTOW where there was insufficient room and had to be steadied.

KITTYKITTYBANGBANG – Began awkwardly and shifted out and bumped I PROMISE YOU before shifting in and making contact with MORE TO ADORE.

SPRESSI – Over-raced in the early stages. Rider S Cormack reported the filly raced on the wrong leg for majority of the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

Race 5: XXXX DRY BENCHMARK 78 Handicap 2200 metres

ROMAKASH (NZ) – A post-race veterinary examination revealed to be lame in near fore leg. Trainer M Kropp was advised the gelding would require a veterinary certificate prior to its next race start.

BARITONE (IRE) – Approaching the 400 metres tightened for room between SO YOU’RE MAGIC which shifted out to improve and CLASS OF ROYALTY which laid in.

METEOR LIGHT (IRE) – Apprentice A Thompson was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for use of the whip on six occasions prior to the 100 metres, one more than permitted.

URBINO (GB) – Held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight.

CLASS OF ROYALTY – Rider B El Issa was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for use of the whip on seven occasions prior to the 100 metres, two more than permitted.


Race 6: MOUNT FRANKLIN Class 4 Handicap 1640 metres

THE HAND – A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

GOT MY THRILLS (NZ) – A post-race veterinary examination revealed lameness in off hind leg. Trainer S Kendrick was advised the mare would require a veterinary clearance prior to its next race start.

DAULAT TAI PANAZIZ – Slow to begin.


Race 7: BRC GIDDY UP CLUB Class 1 Handicap 1350 metres

GRAND CHALLENGE – Bucked shortly after the start. Trainer I Livingstone was advised the gelding must trial prior to its next race start.

BLACKBOOTS – Rider B Stewart was fined $500 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for use of the whip on six occasions prior to the 100 metres, one more than permitted.

OUR FRAULEIN – Raced three wide with cover for majority.

ADELAIDE'S DIAMOND – Slow to begin. Over-raced in the early stages. Near the 900 metres had to be restrained from the heels of GOLDSCHLAGER. ADELAIDE’S DIAMOND continued to race fiercely and near the 800 metres struck the heels of GOLDSCHLAGER. Rider T Wolfgram added the gelding raced greenly for the majority of the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

THE DARK (NZ) – Rider J Morris was suspended from riding in races for a period of 7 days to commence midnight 9th January up to and including 16th January under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for use of the whip on nine occasions prior to the 100 metres, four more than permitted.

DARING BELLE – Raced three wide without cover throughout.

WILD AND READY – Raced three wide with cover for majority.

THE GOLDEN BEAR – Prior to the declaration of correct weight rider B El Issa, rider of 7th placegetter THE GOLDEN BEAR, returned to scale .6kg underweight and acting under AR 209(2)(b) THE GOLDEN BEAR was disqualified from the event. B El Issa was fined $500.

SLIGHTLY SHADY - Raced three wide with cover for majority.

Race 8: BRC MEMBERSHIP PLUS Class 5 Handicap 1350 metres

SNOWZONE – Began awkwardly and shifted in bumping MARMARIS.

MOUNTBATTEN – From a wide barrier was restrained to a position closer to the rail. Shifted out near the 800 metres and bumped SMILING TOUCH. Held up rounding the home-turn and in the early stages of the home straight was obliged to alter course to the inside of SPENDING MY TIME to obtain clear running.

JACKPOT JAY – Raced three wide with cover for majority.

MARMARIS – Bumped at the start.

RAGING POLE – Began awkwardly. Raced three wide without cover.

SMILING TOUCH (NZ) – Bumped at the 800 metres. Raced three wide with cover for majority. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a laceration above the off hind hock. Trainer D Duryea was advised the gelding would require a veterinary clearance before its next race start.

LUCKY JACKSON – As had not started for an extended period of time underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Slow to begin. Leaving the 800 metres improved onto the heels of SMILING TOUCH.

FEDERAL AGENT – Slow to begin.


Race 9: ALCYONE HOTEL & RESIDENCE Class 3 Handicap 1200 metres

WARRAH FLASH – Slow to begin. Rider N Rawiller reported after being slow to begin the gelding settled further back in the field than anticipated and passing the 200 metres put in two awkward strides. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities and a swab sample was taken.

LOGAN'S BLADE – Began awkwardly. Rider A Thompson dropped his whip at the entrance to the home straight.

ALPENDURADA – Shifted out near 400 metres and bumped HIGHLAND SON.

HIGHLAND SON – Slow to begin. Over raced in the early stages. Bumped near the 400 metres. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
