Race 6: BRISBANE RACING CARNIVAL 2019 OPEN H’CAP – 1000M

Stewards permitted apprentice M. Murphy to ride OURS TO KEEP without claiming any of his allowance.

HARD STRIDE, which dislodged apprentice C. Gallagher after leaving the enclosure and galloped for a considerable distance, was declared a late scratching at 3:38 pm on veterinary advice. On the announcement of correct weight stewards ordered that all monies invested on HARD STRIDE be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers placed prior to 3:38 pm:

1 cent in the dollar for the win #4
1 cent in the dollar for place of winner #4
1 cent in the dollar for 2nd place #2
1 cent in the dollar for 3rd place #6

Trainer J. Judge was advised that a warning would be placed on the horse’s pre-race manners. The veterinary surgeon reported that HARD STRIDE had moderate heat stress post-race.

As a result of ambulance personnel attending to apprentice Gallagher and awaiting a replacement ambulance to arrive on course, the start of this race was delayed considerably, being run at approximately 4:16 pm.

Due to the delay in the start of this race, Races 7, 8 and 9 were rescheduled to 4:45 pm, 5:10 pm and 5:36 pm respectively.

STRATURBO – Jumped away awkwardly.

TYCOON ACE – Raced wide throughout.

Race 7: TAB BENCHMARK 80 H’CAP – 1800M

Trainer B. Currie was fined $200 for failing to declare. J. Oliver as the rider of DECONSTRUCTED by the prescribed time.

Due to a miscommunication, M. Cahill was inadvertently advertised initially as the rider of REIBY THE RED when apprentice M. Murphy had been duly engaged.

As apprentice C. Gallagher had been injured, J. Orman was substituted as the rider of MAGSTOCK.

The start of this race was delayed to hold for an interstate event in progress.

MAGSTOCK – Slow to begin.

SHADAL – Lost the off hind plate in running.

HIGH OPINION – Held up for clear running making the turn into the straight.

ZAMEX – Slow to begin.

Race 9: JIM BEAM BLACK CARNIVAL BALL CLASS 6 H’CAP – 1200M

The start of this race was delayed when CURDLED (Tnr T. Edmonds) and SPIN (Co-Tnrs. P. & S. Snowden) were presented to race with incorrect saddles. Due to the short timeframe between Races 8 and 9 and bearing in mind the extenuating circumstances, stewards took no direct action other than to advise trainer T. Edmonds of his responsibility to ensure that runners presented by him, as well as when he is acting on behalf of other trainers, are saddled correctly.

As J. Lloyd was to be overweight, M. Du Plessis was substituted as the rider of QIJI PHOENIX.

Due to the delay in Race 8, the starting time of this event was rescheduled to 5:45 pm.

After viewing the stewards’ patrol footage, R. Stewart, the rider of SCALLOPINI, placed 2nd by the Judge, lodged an objection against COOL SEQUENCE being declared the winner, alleging interference in the straight. After viewing the videos and taking evidence from all parties, it was established that COOL SEQUENCE shifted out under pressure from the 200m, and that over the final 100m COOL SEQUENCE continued to shift out and SCALLOPINI shifted out and away from that runner. After taking into account the margin separating both runners at the finish and that COOL SEQUENCE had not made contact with SCALLOPINI, stewards dismissed the objection and declared correct weight on the Judge’s placings.

SCALLOPINI – Momentarily steadied approaching the 400m to avoid the heels of HONOUR’N’STRENGTH, which rolled outwards.

SPIN – Bumped on jumping.

TABBING – Lost the near hind plate in running.

COOL SEQUENCE – Laid out under pressure in the straight.

LANGHRO – Proved very difficult to settle in the early and middle stages and near the 700m shifted outwards, making contact with CURDLED.
