Race 1: TAB LONG MAY WE PLAY QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Plate 1600 metres

SEQUOIDEAE (NZ) – Laid out under pressure over the final 250m.

Race 2: BRC SPRING CARNIVAL ON SALE Maiden Handicap 1300 metres2

ROCAROYALE (NZ) – Carried wider near the 300m.

THREEPOINT MISSILE – Hampered at the start.

KUDU – Bumped on the hind quarters near the 1000m.

I AM SUPERIOR – Bumped another runner and shifted out abruptly near the 300m. When weakening shifted out away from SYDNEY ANGUS near the 200m.

ONE MORE PINOT – Began awkwardly. Over raced in the early and middle stages. Near the 300m shifted out under pressure.

WINDSTREAM - Connections advised that from the wide barrier the gelding will be ridden further back with cover if circumstances permit. Ridden accordingly.

SYDNEY ANGUS - Near the 300m was inconvenienced when bumped.

VALIDAR – Near the 1000m was restrained from the heels of COME IN SPINNER, shifted out and bumped the hind quarters of KUDU.
Race 3: KIRIN BENCHMARK 75 Handicap 1200 metres

DESTINY'S OWN – Near the 900m bumped heavily.

DENARIUS – Over raced in the early stages when racing three wide. Near the 900m when being restrained shifted in and made heavy contact with DESINITY’S OWN.

GOLDEN MEAN – On arrival to course at the trainer’s request underwent a pre-race veterinary examination, revealing an abrasion to its muzzle and was subsequently passed suitable to race.

RAGING POLE – Rider M Cahill was questioned in relation to the tactics adopted regarding leading today’s event which is in contrast to its most recent racing pattern. Rider M Cahill explained that he was positive from the barrier as the gelding was slow to begin at its most recent start, and it was his intention to ride with cover if possible. He added that near the 1000m he elected to restrain however it over raced and did not relax and, in his opinion, this had an effect on the gelding not finishing the race off strongly. Trainer T Sears advised that he did not give Rider M Cahill any specific instructions however he was surprised that the gelding led today as it had not led throughout its career until today. He added that he thought it would settle in a handy position with cover and when it over raced in the early and middle stages he shared the same view that this had a detrimental effect on the gelding finishing the race off strongly. The explanation of both parties was noted.

ROTHABYE – Inclined to lay out in the home straight under pressure.

Race 4: SOUTHS SPORTS CLUB BENCHMARK 78 Handicap 1600 metres

TAHSIN (NZ) - A post-race veterinary examination identified the gelding to be lame in off foreleg. Stable representative M Hoysted advised that connections would consider the immediate racing future of the gelding, nevertheless, he was notified that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to the horse racing or trialing again.

NAPOLEON SOLO – Inclined to lay out under pressure in the home straight.

REIBY THE RED – Over raced in the early stages. Passing the 500m when shifting out to improve became awkward at the heels of SEEINGISBELIEVING.

PLUMARO – Rider B Thompson reported that he was disappointed with the performance of the mare.

KEDAH (NZ) – Raced three wide in the early stages until being ridden forward to obtain a position outside the leader approaching the 1100m.

TOGA PICTA – Held up rounding the home turn and in the early parts of the home straight.

Race 5: INGLIS READY2RACE SALE ON TUESDAY 20TH OCTOBER CL4 Hcp 1400 metres

SUPERBOWL SUNDAY – Slow to begin. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding identified it to be suffering from the thumps.

TRUSTY LAD (NZ) – As the gelding had not raced since June 2019, underwent a pre-race veterinary examination, and was passed suitable to start. Raced keen in the early and middle stages.

JOCHBERG – Near the 800m shifted in and crowded TESARC. Raced three wide without cover throughout.

TESARC – Crowded for room near the 800m.

MANTELLI – Slow to begin. Over raced in the early and middle stages.

Race 6: TAB LONG MAY WE PLAY Class 2 Handicap 1800 metres

SAYL (GB) – Rider L Dittman was fined $300 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on 7 occasions prior to the 100m, which is two more than permitted.

ROUND OF APPLAUSE – Apprentice J Huxtable was fined $200 under AR131(b) for failing to ride his mount out to the end of the race.

MUFASTA – Over raced in the early stages.

BOREAS – After beginning well from the wide barrier was allowed to stride forward to the lead.

Race 7: GALLOPERS SPORTS CLUB Class 3 Handicap 1000 metres

BOBLEE – Raced three wide with cover throughout. Near the 250m bumped on the hind quarters. Rider R Maloney reported that the gelding did not feel comfortable throughout. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding identified a slower than expected recovery from racing. A post-race swab was also taken for analysis.

GENZAI THE WOLF – Held up for clear running from the 600m until near the 250m. In the home straight was disappointed for a run between BOBLEE and WALL STREET TYCOON and had to be checked, following this had to alter course back to the inside in order to improve.

ABLE MABEL – Raced four wide without cover throughout.

FLYING EDDIE – Slipped at the start and became very awkward, resulting in its rider becoming unbalanced.

GLOBAL FACTOR – Raced three wide with cover throughout.

WALL STREET TYCOON- Raced three wide with cover throughout. Lost its off side front plate in running.

Race 8: CASCADE Class 1 Handicap 1200 metres

FINAL DECLARATION – Raced wide early until being allowed to stride forward to the lead passing the 800m. Near the 150m was struck in the head by the whip of the rider of DR WHY NOT and then shifted out taking SKILORD wider.

GRAND ZOU - Tightened for room at the start. Over raced in the early stages. Near the 1000m was checked from the heels of SKILORD. Raced three wide without cover throughout. The gelding which was disappointing in its finishing efforts underwent a post-race veterinary examination and did not identify any abnormal findings.

PULL ANCHOR – From the wide barrier was restrained to the rear of the field to gain a position closer to the rail. Held up rounding the home turn.

JAZZ QUEEN – Tightened for room at the start.

HOPEFUL STAR – Sustained an injury to its head off course. Subsequently declared a late scratching at 2:25pm. Trainer T Cotsiopoulos was notified that she will be required to provide a veterinary clearance prior to the horse racing or trialing again.

MADAME MO – Over raced in the early stages. Rider M Cahill was questioned in relation to his riding in particular over the final 500m. Rider M Cahill explained that MADAME MO settled back in the field and that the mare over raced when being restrained in the early stages. He added that approaching the home turn that the mare lost ground when he was riding hands and heels and he did not apply the whip in the early part of the home straight as he was of the opinion he was out of contention. He further added that the mare finished the race off strongly and would be better suited over distances further than that of today’s event. Stewards noted his explanation and reminded him to at all times ensure that he rides his mounts out competitively to the end of the race.


SKILORD (NZ) – Began awkwardly and shifted out. Taken wider near the 150m by FINAL DECLARATION.
