GENERAL

Following a raceday compliance inspection today at the stables of T & T Edmonds by the QRIC IIT officers who identified a concern with the gelding OURCONI which was engaged to run in race 7 today. Trainer Toby Edmonds when questioned in relation to the gelding OURCONI explained the horses treatment leading up to today’s event. Stewards noted his comment and swab samples were taken for analysis. A pre-race veterinary examination of OURCONI did not identify any abnormal findings.


Race 1: TAB VENUE MODE QTIS Two-Year-Old Colts and Geldings Maiden Plate 1200 metres

SEEFELD – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Laid out under pressure in the home straight. Near the 350m brushed with WHY WE DRINK.

WHY WE DRINK – Raced wide throughout. Brushed near the 350m.

IMBATIDO – Performed below market expectation. Apprentice J Huxtable stated that his instructions were to be positive from the gates and to hold a forward position. He added that after taking up a forward position the gelding travel moderately and when asked to quicken on straightening his mount failed to do so and was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination of IMBATIDO identified poor post-race recovery and to have symptoms of the thumps. Apprentice J Huxtable was fined $300 for using the whip 7 times prior to the 100m, which is 2 more than permitted under AR132(7)(a)(ii).


SATURDAY SINNER – Approaching the 800m was steadied when MISHANI PHAROAH was steadied to gain cover.

BOUGHTA BOOM - Raced wide in the early stages before obtaining a position outside the leader passing the 800m. In home straight was inclined to lay in.

VALLEY RATTLER – Began awkwardly and was slow to begin. Held up rounding the home turn near the 250m altered course to obtain clear running.

MILLWARD – Raced three wide throughout.

STUNNING HEART – Began awkwardly and was slow to begin.

MISHANI PHAROAH – Restrained near 800m when over racing to gain cover.


Race 2: STRADBROKE SEASON ON SALE NOW QTIS Two-Year-Old Fillies Maiden Plate 1200 metres

SECRET TALES – Over raced in the early and middle stages. Held up momentarily rounding the home turn.

MISHANI ESPRIT – Slow to begin.

STARTANTES – Began awkwardly. Near the 1100m was crowded for room between SECERT TALES which shifted out and COOKIES ‘N’ CREAM.

SHALUNA – Over raced in the early and middle stages. In the early part of the home straight laid in.

MERIMEE – Slow to begin. Made the turn near the 900m awkwardly when being restrained to gain cover.

ANGEL LIKE – Performed below market expectations. A post-race veterinary examination of the filly did not identify any abnormal findings. Rider M McGillivray stated that ANGEL LIKE travelled well throughout however failed to respond in home straight.

TESAURA – Restrained after the start. Had difficulty obtaining clear running rounding the home then in the early part of home straight before shifting wider on the track.

MISHANI UNTAMED – Rider T Harrison was dislodged when returning to scale post-race when MISHANI UNTAMED shied. Rider T Harrison was examined by the on-course Doctor before being transported to hospital.

REAL DIVING – Raced wide without cover.

Race 3: SKY RACING BENCHMARK 78 Handicap 2231 metres

BATTLE PLANE – Tactics queried in particular the reasons in the middle stages, after gaining cover behind the leaders rider J Orman elected to pressure his mount and ride forward. Rider J Orman stated that it was his intention to lead however this did not eventuate due to the pressure in the early stages and when the pace steadied from the 1200m, he elected to improve as the gelding is one paced and his instructions were to lead. He further added that his mount was under pressure from the 600m and compounded in the home straight. Trainer T Sears confirmed the instructions were to lead in today’s event and in his opinion the race today was not run to suit as the gelding was having its first attempt at the distance. A post-race veterinary examination of BATTLE PLANE identified the gelding to be short striding in front. Trainer T Sears was notified that he will be required to provide a Veterinary Clearance prior to the horse racing or trialing again.

TEARS OF LOVE – When attempting to improve from the 700m raced in restricted room between BATTLE PLANE and YOUNGBLOOD.

YOUNGBLOOD – After gaining cover leaving the straight on the first occasion began to over race and as a result shifted wider on the track, raced three wide from this point before being permitted to stride forward and take up a position outside leader passing 1400m. Apprentice A Patis was reprimanded for use of the whip 6 times prior to the 100m. AR132(7)(a)(ii)

ABERLADY – Raced wide without throughout.

STAR CENTRE – Apprentice M Wishart was unable to claim her full allowance, was permitted by Stewards to ride the gelding 0.5kg over when no other apprentice was available. Apprentice M Wishart was fined $300.


Race 4: GALLOPERS SPORTS CLUB Maiden Handicap 1400 metres

The declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow J Orman the rider of the second place getter LORNA DOONE to view the official photo finish. After viewing the photo rider J Orman was satisfied with the judges placings and correct weight was declared.

INCENTIVISE – Slow to begin. Had difficulty obtaining clear running approaching 400m, was again momentarily held up approaching the 200m.

ASCOT EXPRESS (NZ) – Began awkwardly.

OUR REBEL – Trainer D McColm when questioned in relation to improved performance of the gelding which was having its second start, stated that at its first start the gelding drew awkwardly and wide, was restrained from the gate and raced greenly throughout. He further added with the addition of blinkers and more favourable barrier was able to established a position closer and finished the event off well. Approaching the 600m improved close the heels of KATANAROCK before shifting wider.

MACIPENKO – Near the 400m after attempting to improve between LORNA DOONE and KATANAROCK which laid in was bumped by KATANAROCK and carried in across the heels of LORNA DOONE.

KATANAROCK – Laid in upon straightening.

REAL EMPRESS – Began awkwardly and lost ground.

MARTO – Over-raced in the middle stages.

Race 5: TAB LIVE SKY RACING BENCHMARK 70 Handicap 1800 metres

PLEASED – Change of Tactics - To be ridden more forward. Settled in a forward position. Apprentice L Kilner reported that the gelding was disappointing and could offer no other explanation.

KIMPEMBE – In the home straight laid in.

SMART METEOR – Approaching 200m shifted out abruptly and then continued to lay out under pressure over the concluding stages.

RINVIATA (NZ) – Raced wide without cover before being permitted to stride forward and take up a position in lead near the 1000m.

THE MINIVAN – Improved three wide from the 800m.

WILDWOOD JADE – Change of tactics – To be ridden more forward. Slow to begin settled further back that anticipated.


Race 6: SOUTHS SPORTS CLUB BENCHMARK 75 Handicap 1400 metres

BOLD WARRIOR - Over-raced in the middle stages before being permitted to stride forward to take up a leading position near the 600m.

MORENDI – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

MANTELLI – Bumped on jumping by FLYING MACHINE which was carried out by SMOOTH MOVE. Over-raced in the early and middle stages.

SMOOTH MOVE – Began awkwardly. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Performed below market expectations. Apprentice J Huxtable could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding did not identify any abnormal findings.

FLYING MACHINE – Change of tactics - To be ridden further back. Settled worse than mid field with cover. Held up round home turn.


Race 7: BRC GIRLS DAY OUT SATURDAY 20 MARCH Class 1 Handicap 1200 metres

OURCONI – Slow to begin. Raced wide with cover throughout. Rider R Fradd reported his mount raced keen with the addition of blinkers.

ZOUKINA – Slow to begin.

WUDDACUDDASHUDDA – Near the 1000m steadied to avoid the heels of TWELVE APOSTLES (M Du Plessis) which shifted in when not clear. Rider M Du Plessis was reprimanded under AR131(a) for shifting in when insufficiently clear. Rider J Orman reported the gelding would be better suited on tracks with more give.

TWELVE APOSTLES – Rider M Du Plessis reported his mount would be better suited to tracks with more give and may have come to the end of its preparation. Trainer K Fogden could offer no explanation for the geldings disappointing performance and undertook to report to stewards anything that may become apparent which may have had an effect on the horse’s performance in the days subsequent to the event.

BONNIE EV – Raced wide without cover throughout.

Race 8: MILLERS SWIM SCHOOL Class 2 Handicap 1600 metres

WHOZYADEELER – (Beaten $1.35 favorite) rider M Rodd stated that the gelding raced fiercely in the early and middle stages due to the moderate tempo which in his opinion was detrimental to the geldings chances. Trainer T Gollan could offer no further explanation for the disappointing performance. Shifted out at the start and bumped with EAST ESPLANADE. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding did not identify any abnormal findings. Rider M Rodd was fined $300 for using the whip 7 times prior to the 100m, which is 2 more than permitted. AR132(7)(a)(ii).

SAYL – Over raced in the early and middle stages due to the slow tempo.

SPOKESMAN – Near the 700m laid in and made contact with the heels of BECANDLENI.

CAIRNDOW – Slow to begin. Raced wide without cover from the 800m.

BECANDLENI – Restrained from the wide barrier. Approaching the 700m was steadied when racing in restricted room to the inside of MOSSHIKI. Over-raced in the early and middle stages and was galloped on near the 700m.

THE DARK (NZ) – Raced wide before being permitted to stride forward to take up a position outside the leader passing the 900m.

EAST ESPLANADE – Bumped at the start by WHOZYADEELER which shifted out.
