General
Jockey J Felix who was unable to attend today’s race meeting due to injury was advised he would be required to obtain a medical clearance prior to his next race ride.
Race 1 – W. TITLEY & CO / TAYLOR BYRNES CLASS B HANDICAP 800m
Bamby – Resuming following a prolonged absence from racing. Was inspected pre-race by the Veterinarian and cleared to start.
Ayla’s Angel – Began awkwardly. Raced wide for the majority.
Way of the Dragon – Underwent a Veterinary examination prior to the start after being kicked by another runner and was cleared to run. Reluctant to load. Began awkwardly after being fractious in the barrier. Bumped another runner on jumping. Jockey Ms. B Thomson reported the mare had raced ungenerously throughout.
Mount Costa – Bumped heavily by another runner on jumping.
Gohardonhula – Raced wide for the majority.
Race 2 – PURCELL PLUMBING & DRAINAGE / DRAINAGE / TRADEMARK BRICKLAYING QTIS MAIDEN PLATE 800m
Stars Don’t Rust – Slowly away. Raced wide for the majority.
Kensington Gold – Slowly away. Bumped with another runner soon after jumping.
Cimmeron Spirit – Fractious in the barrier. Began awkwardly bumping with another runner.
Dutch Rocket – Raced wide for the majority.
Wurst On Fire – Slowly away. Was eased out of the race near the 600m as Jockey D Edmonds had concerns with the mare’s action. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer Mr. J Barr to advise Stewards should anything become apparent in coming days which may have had a bearing on today’s performance.
Race 3 – NQ DRY TROPICS CLASS 5 PLATE 1000m
Molongle Fire – Reluctant to load.
Stone Philospher – Raced wide the majority
Race 4 – PURCELL BROTHERS PTY LTD / THE ALLINGHAM FAMILY EWAN BRACELET OPEN HANDICAP 1200m
Perfect Knowledge – Stewards permitted Jockey S Sheargold to ride the gelding 0.5kg over its allotted minimum weight. (AR190). Jockey Sheargold reported the gelding was never comfortable on today’s firm racing surface.
Race 5 – BURTON POWER BENCHMARK 50 HANDICAP 1600m
Spirited Character – Reluctant to proceed to the barriers significantly delaying the start of the race. Trainer Mr P Rowe was advised the gelding would be required to trial satisfactorily prior to again being permitted to start in a race.
Nitro City – Was eased out of the race at the 800m by Jockey A Butler who injured his right knee exiting the barriers at the start and was placed at a severe disadvantage. Jockey Butler was advised he would be required to obtain a medical clearance prior to his next race ride.
Try Before Dubai – Raced wide for the majority.
Albert the Rocket – Jockey G Watson advised that the gelding which finished tailed off had never been comfortable on today’s firm racing surface. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer Mr. J Bawden to advise Stewards should anything become apparent in coming days which may have had a bearing on today’s performance.
The declaration of correct weight was delayed whilst Jockey P Cullen who rode 3rd placed Luvya Beak viewed patrol footage to ascertain if there were grounds for protest against 2nd placed Go Diamonds (S Sheargold) with reference to an incident that allegedly occurred near the 200m. When Jockey Cullen and Stewards were similarly satisfied that there were no grounds for protest correct weight was declared on the Judge’s numbers.
