COMESIDICE – When questioned by Stewards in relation to the seemingly improved performance of the gelding, the Trainers’ representative advised that prior to its last start, the gelding’s form was, in his opinion, satisfactory. He added that they had expected a forward showing at the gelding’s most recent start at Cunnamulla, however following a disappointing performance on that occasion they elected to freshen the horse up. He went on to say that the gelding’s work leading up to today’s race had, in his opinion, suggested a forward showing today. Stewards noted the explanation.

The horse was declared a late scratching at 1:02pm on veterinary advice. Following the event, Stewards ordered that all monies invested on SEQUABLUR be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers:

13 cents in the dollar for the win #4
18 cents in the dollar for place of winner #4
21 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #5
14 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #2

WILLOWBROOK WONDER – After changing stride, became awkward in its action of its own accord near the 900m and fell. Jockey Andrew Spinks was examined by Queensland Ambulance Officers and stood down from his remaining engagements. Jockey Spinks was advised that he will require a medical clearance, including a satisfactory after injury concussion test, prior to riding again. A post-race veterinary examination of the mare revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer Mr. M. Thomas’ saddle slipped to the offside near the 500m and, as a result, he was placed at a disadvantage for the remainder of the race and eased his mount up over the concluding stages.

SNOOPER – Slow to begin. Severely inconvenienced and lost considerable ground when avoiding the fallen horse and its rider. The horse was then eased out of the race by its rider and took no competitive part in the event.

SONADOR FIRE – Declared a late scratching at 7.40am due to a dual engagement in Race 8 today.

Following the running of this race, the Stewards and a delegation of senior riders conducted an inspection of the track near the 900m. Following this inspection, the delegation of riders unanimously agreed with the opinion of the Stewards that the track was safe as there were no apparent issues with the racing surface. On this basis, the decision was made to proceed with the meeting.

Following the running of this race, Stewards interviewed all riders in Race 8 in relation to their concerns with the racing surface following a number of runners appearing to slip during Race 7. After reviewing the patrol footage it was the unanimous decision of the Stewards and riders that to proceed with the running of Race 8 could compromise the safety and welfare of the riders and horses in that race. Stewards therefore determined that the final race be abandoned. Queensland Racing advised that the Abandoned Race Compensation Policy will apply.
