GENERAL

The track was upgraded from a Good 4 to a Good 3 at 7.45am.

Prior to the running of Race 1 Stewards inspected the rail between the 800m and the 350m. Following this inspection, Stewards elected to move the rail to the true position between the 800m and 650m to accommodate the ten runners jumping from the 860m in Race 4. Due to the delay, all race times were put back one race with the start time of Race 7 being amended to 4.45pm.

Race 2: BENDIGO BANK ROSEWOOD QTIS 3YO MAIDEN H’CAP – 1100M

The start of this race was delayed when L’AMANTE, which became fractious in the barriers, underwent a veterinary examination and was passed fit to start.

The declaration of correct weight was delayed to enable Stewards to consider an application made by Trainer W. Hulbert and Apprentice A. Thompson to have L’AMANTE declared a non-runner. After taking evidence, Stewards established that the filly became fractious in the barriers which resulted in its barrier blanket being dislodged after which the filly became very fractious. As a result, the filly was removed from the barriers, examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to start. When being reloaded, Apprentice A. Thompson advised the starter that the use of the barrier blanket was not necessary and as the starter was of the opinion that the filly was reacting adversely to the barrier blanket, it was not placed back on the filly before it was reloaded. As Stewards were of the opinion that the filly had not been denied a fair start, correct weight was declared on the judge’s semaphored numbers. Apprentice A. Thompson was reprimanded for his conduct during this process.

Race 6: TEMPORARY FENCE & BARRIER HIRE FILLIES & MARES BENCHMARK 50 H’CAP – 1400M

The declaration of correct weight was delayed to enable Stewards to consider two separate objections lodged by L. Cheshire, the rider of 2nd placegetter SCHRAPELLI, and K. Yoshida, the rider of 4th placegetter TOORAK COMEDY, against GET ON being declared the winner, alleging interference near the 1300m. After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the videos, Stewards found that Apprentice M. Nakao permitted her mount to shift in near the 1300m resulting in SCHRAPELLI having to be steadied. As a result, SCHRAPELLI then shifted in contributing to the interference suffered by TOORAK COMEDY which had to be checked. Stewards were not of the view that the interference suffered to SCHRAPELLI was sufficient to affect the placings, and that the interference suffered by TOORAK COMEDY could not be solely attributed to the shift from GET ON. Stewards were also of the opinion that both horses had an opportunity to improve into the race bearing in mind the proximity of the incident to the winning post. Stewards therefore dismissed both protests and declared correct weight on the judge’s placings.  Nevertheless, Apprentice N. Nakao was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances in the future.
