WARFACE - At the start was heavily bumped by STELLARCRAFT, shifted out and bumped REAL CUTE. Raced 4 wide without cover throughout.

REAL CUTE - Bumped at the start and lost ground. Held up rounding the home turn.

ASK AUDREY - When questioned as to the performance, Jockey S Bogenhuber stated that she was instructed to obtain a position with cover and for that reason after beginning well, she elected to ease and obtain a position behind OKOCHI ARCHER in the early stages. She noted that after obtaining that position the mare commenced to over-race and was inclined to lay out approaching and rounding the home turn. Nonetheless, she was disappointed in its inability to finish off the race as expected and was of the opinion that the mare may benefit from the blinkers being removed at its next start. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a poor post-race recovery and also to be in season. Co-trainer P Sexton noted that the mare performed admirably at its last start when forced to settle in a similar position after suffering interference at the start. Mr Sexton expressed his disappointment in the mares performance and undertook to advise stewards should any abnormalities come to light in the days subsequent to the race.

At a subsequent inquiry it was established that the racing manners of BALERION contributed significantly to this incident and as such no action was taken against any one rider. Shortly thereafter when obliged to settle behind STARBUSTER, raced fiercely until a point passing the 800m.

RICHEST - Caught wide in the early stages and allowed to stride forward to obtain a position in the lead near the 900m.

MISS SIZZ - Raced wide throughout.

STARBUSTER – Forced wider on the track leaving the 800m and raced 3 wide without cover for the remainder of the event. Jockey Chau was unable to offer any explanation for the disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Stable representative M Sharpe was of the opinion that the gelding may be better suited when ridden less aggressively in the early stages and may be better suited on a bigger track. Ms Sharpe undertook to advise stewards of any abnormalities that may come to light subsequent to todays race.

Jockey G Colless (GREY FALCON) was reprimanded for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m.

However, after obtaining a position outside NOT SURPRISING passing the 800m, the mare failed to travel comfortably at any stage and was most disappointing.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame in both fore legs.  Trainer L Birchley will be advised that a veterinary clearance will be required prior to its next race start.
