RACE 1: Cole Diesel Memorial Maiden Plate – 1800m

LILIERO was fractious in the barriers and as a result got its hind leg caught in the back gates. The filly was subsequently removed from the barriers, examined by the veterinary surgeon and withdrawn by order of stewards acting on veterinary advice at 12.47pm. All monies invested on LILIERO were ordered to be refunded. Deductions applicable to bets placed on winner and place-getters prior to 12.47pm:-

12 cents in the dollar for the Win #4 - PARTNERSHIP
12 cents in the dollar for the place of winner #4 - PARTNERSHIP
17 cents in the dollar the 2nd place #6 - HAKWA
17 cents in the dollar for the 3rd place #3 – HOUSE ARREST

TERRORFILO - Slow into stride and then failed to muster any early speed despite the efforts of its rider.

HOUSE ARREST - Caught wide in the early stages and was allowed to improve forward to assume the outright lead passing the 1400m.

HAKWA - Raced keenly in the middle stages.

ANOTHER ROSIE - Hampered and forced wider near the 400m after MISSY MUSKETEER shifted out to improve.

HEZ EKCEPTIONAL - When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, Jockey J Stanley stated that the gelding travelled well after having a favourable run throughout, however, when approaching the home turn and racing tight to the inside of BOUNDARY RYDER, felt that the gelding resented racing in this position. He added that he had recommended to connections the addition of blinkers and also indicated that the gelding would be better suited when able to improve to the outside of runners wider on the track. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities. A swab sample was taken. Trainer L Kelly stated that the disappointing performance may have been attributed to the firm track conditions today. He added that he would now send the gelding for an immediate spell.

RACE 2: Betty Doran Memorial Maiden Handicap – 1200m

SUNDAYINMANHATTAN - Slow into stride.

STEELZ TIME – Hampered at the start and lost ground. When questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance, Trainer A Coome explained that the gelding has only recently been transferred into his stable and was having its second start for him today. He added that he was not overly confident of the geldings winning chances today but he has been pleased with the geldings track work leading into todays event. Stewards noted his comments.

AMERICAN LOVE – Began awkwardly, shifted out and made contact with MONTE SANTO. Stewards sought an explanation for the disappointing performance from Jockey A Allen who stated that the mare failed to travel comfortably and was inclined to roll in and away from other runners and when placed under pressure in the home straight, failed to respond to his riding. He added that in his opinion the mare may have come to the end of its current preparation. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities. Stable representative, in the absence of Trainer C Anderson, undertook to report to stewards anything that may become apparent which may have had an effect on the horses performance in the days subsequent to the event. Trainer C Anderson subsequently advised stewards that the mare would now be sent for a spell.

POGO POP – Bumped on the hindquarters at the start.

GAME SET MATCH – Near the 1000m had to be steadied to avoid the heels of POGO POP which shifted in. App. J Hodge (POGO POP) was severely reprimanded for this incident.

ALL DREAMS - Over-raced in the early stages.

MONTO SANTO - Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. Jockey J Stanley reported at scale that his mount raced greenly throughout the event.

HOCKED - Approaching the 600m had to be restrained after improving onto heels. Held up in the early stages of the home straight. Near the 100m had to be steadied when tightened for room between KATY BOOM and STEELZ TIME both of which shifted ground marginally.

HEAVENS STAR - When questioned regarding the tactics adopted on the mare which firmed in the betting market and as to the reasons for settling closer on the speed than at the mares most recent starts, Jockey D Griffin explained that his instructions were to be positive out of the barriers and to attempt to obtain a forward position. He added that after being able to do so, the mare travelled well, however, over the concluding stages failed to finish the race off. Trainer C Tyrrell confirmed the instructions and noted that the mare has received interference at the start of its last two races and settled further back than anticipated. He further added that the mare has always shown good early barrier speed and has issued similar instructions previously. Stewards whilst noting his comments, advised Mr Tyrrell that in future he would be expected to inform stewards of any change of tactics.

After the running of this event, the track was upgraded to a Good 3.

RACE 3: Dr Glen McCabe Memorial BenchMark 75 Handicap – 900m

CALLIGRAPHER - Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout. Jockey Stanley reported to stewards that in his opinion the gelding may have jarred up on todays firm surface and was inclined to lay in. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities.

ALATORA - In the early stages, commenced to over-race when being restrained to obtain a position with cover at the rear of the field.

POWERFUL SAGA – Passing the 700m had to be restrained when awkwardly placed at the heels of GUNNAZA which shifted out.

STELLARCRAFT – Near the 200m the gelding was struck over the nose by the whip of Jockey D Griffin (ALWAYS SACRED). Over the concluding stages had to be eased to avoid the heels of WUDANG BLADE which shifted in and away from ALATORA.

TOGA PICTA - Jockey J Stanley reported to stewards that the gelding may have felt the effects of todays firm surface and added that over the concluding stages as a result, he was reluctant to continue pressuring his mount.

TYCOON LAYLA – App. C Frater-Hill reported to stewards that once obtaining the lead by a considerable distance which is the established racing pattern, the mare then commenced to race keenly and was inclined to lay in. She added that this was uncharacteristic behaviour and as a result felt that this had a detrimental effect on the mare being able to finish the race off and in her opinion the mare may not have been suited to the step-up to 1800m.

OMINECA – Jockey G Colless reported at scale that in his opinion the gelding failed to handle todays firm surface.

RACE 5: Don Alroe Memorial QTIS 3YO Maiden Plate – 1400m

EULEILAH - Raced wide after leaving the 800m and did so for the remainder of the event.

BALERION - Shifted out under pressure for the majority of the home straight.

SEAMAGIC – Jockey P Hammersley reported to stewards that the filly would now benefit from racing over further distances than todays event and would also appreciate the addition of blinkers.

RACE 6: Eric Cowell Memorial F&M Class 1 Handicap – 1200m

YOUNG AMAZON - Began awkwardly and lost ground.

CHICKA BOOM - Shifted out at the start. Passing the 700m was placed in restricted room to the inside of INDY BONBON which was taken in by KOSCIUSZKO EXPRESS. Near the 500m was placed in restricted room between runners.

App. Frater-Hill was suspended from riding in races for a period of 11 days to commence midnight 28/1/19 and to expire midnight 8/2/19.

RACE 7: Peter Gallagher Memorial C,G&E Class 1 Handicap – 1200m

The start was delayed when PIRLO was reluctant to proceed to the barriers. Trainer M Dunn was advised that a warning would be placed against the geldings pre-race manners.

DREAM WILDER - Steadied rounding the home turn when placed in restricted room between PETAIN and CHAVO which shifted out. Stewards sought an explanation as to Jockey P Hammersleys riding in the home straight. Jockey Hammersley stated that after receiving interference at the top of the straight, his mount then failed to respond immediately to his riding and therefore when placed out of contention, he elected not to continue to ride his mount for the remainder. Stewards advised Jockey Hammersley that at all times when reasonable he would be expected to ride his mounts out to the end of the race.
