QUICK KETCH - Bumped on jumping away. Shortly after the start became awkwardly placed at the heels of POLE VOLTER after being brushed by SISTA ACT and clipped heels and blundered.

SISTA ACT - Began awkwardly and made contact with QUICK KETCH. Stewards questioned Jockey M Hellyer regarding the instructions given and tactics adopted on the mare. Jockey Hellyer explained that his instructions were to lead as per its normal racing pattern, however, after being moderately away, was then ridden forward and caught racing 3 wide for the remainder of the event. Stewards accepted his explanation.

SIROCCAN LAD - Hampered between runners on jumping away. After passing the 400m commenced to weaken and finished a distance last. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have bled from both nostrils. As this was the second occasion on which SIROCCAN LAD had bled, it will incur a lifetime ban from racing.

ANAKYN DARAXES - Over-raced when settling in a position outside the leader.

POLE VOLTER - When questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance, Trainer R Lyford explained that the gelding which was having its first start for the stable had worked reasonably, including a jump-out where it had performed competitively. Mr Lyford further added that he expected the gelding to be looking for distances further than that of todays event and was surprised by the win. He stated that with the fast tempo up front in a small field, this was a contributing factor to the gelding finishing the race off in the manner in which it did.

RACE 5: Edgell Supacrunch F&M Maiden Plate – 1400m

MAQUIA VOLADORA was a late scratching by order of stewards at 12.10 pm when the filly was injured on route to the course. Trainer T McCarthy was advised that he must obtain a veterinary clearance for the filly before its next race start.

ANIMAL SPIRITS – Correct weight was delayed to ascertain whether the filly was afforded a fair start. After viewing the footage of the start, stewards were satisfied that it was not impeded and it was only due to the fillys own manners that it stood flat-footed and missed the start by a considerable distance. Trainers B & D Guy were advised that a further Barrier Certificate would be required prior to the fillys next race start.

SURPRISE SELECTION – Proved very difficult to load. Trainer J Williams was advised that a warning would be placed against the filly for its barrier manners.

MAJIKKUTESA – Connections advised that the filly will lead today if circumstances permit and the jockey will not be using the whip. Ridden accordingly. Began awkwardly and shifted in making contact with MASSIE WHISPER. Raced 3 wide without cover in a forward position throughout.

MASSIE WHISPER - Bumped on jumping away.

EVENING - Began awkwardly and was bumped on the hindquarters by HONEY DIKKEN. Laid in slightly after passing the 400m.

OUR LIL HUSSEY - Raced 3 wide with cover throughout.

GARIFULLINA - Raced 3 wide with cover throughout.

HONEY DIKKEN - Approaching the 900m was bumped and cramped for racing room when GARIFULLINA shifted in slightly. Shortly after straightening, slightly held up and obliged to alter course back to the inside to obtain clear running.

THE LAST ROAD - Approaching the 900m bumped and cramped for racing room when GARIFULLINA shifted in slightly. Approaching the 200m improved onto heels and obliged to shift back to the inside to obtain clear running.

SAPPHIRE GIFT - Laid out under pressure over the final 200m. When questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance, Trainer H Page explained that the filly has not been suited to the shorter distances in recent starts and has been working well and with a step-up in distance and being able to dictate from the front, suited her today.

The track was upgraded to a Good 3 after the running of this event.

RACE 6: Lone Star Rib House Cup Ratings Band 0 – 62 Handicap – 900m

PURPLE CUP - Began awkwardly and shifted out abruptly.

ASK AUDREY - Bumped on jumping away.

HIDDEN SEQUEL - Bumped on jumping away. After passing the 500m when racing tightly between runners, was bumped and became unbalanced for a stride when MISS MAKEPEACE, which was racing to its inside, laid out slightly.

KAPSTAR - Slow to muster speed. When racing in a rearward position, got its head up and raced ungenerously for a short distance passing the 600m.

RACE 7: The Laneway Street Food Co. Class 1 Handicap – 1800m

Stewards accepted the reasons tendered for the late scratching of TALAPUS at 7.36 am.

LOLAS DIAMOND - Over-raced in the early and middle stages and had to be restrained from heels on a number of occasions.

PERFECT WITNESS - When asked to explain the performance of the gelding today, Jockey Plumb explained that his instructions from Mr T Gollan were to afford the gelding clear room in the run as at its previous start when cluttered away, it proved disappointing. Jockey Plumb added that with a favourable trailing position on the outside today, it afforded him clear running after passing the 500m which he attributed to todays better performance.

MAJOR LUCK - After rounding the home turn commenced to weaken and finished a distant last. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer S Essery was advised that the geldings nomination would be refused at TAB venues until such time as its form improves at country meetings.

RACE 8: Finest Quality Kurts Smallgoods & Sausages Class 1 Handicap – 1400m

WILLY BE LUCKY was a late scratching at 8.14 am. At a subsequent inquiry, Trainer S Barr was fined the sum of $400 under the provisions of AR114(1)(c). In determining penalty, Stewards were mindful that this late scratching denied another emergency a start in the race.

ANGELS LOVE – Connections advised that from the inside barrier, it would be their intention to ride the mare more forward today. Ridden accordingly.

EIRA - The tongue tie came off the gelding in the enclosure and had to be re-fitted behind the barriers.

MEGASHOT – Stood flat-footed as the start was effected and lost considerable ground. Jockey B Ainsworth accidentally dropped her whip passing the 150m. Trainer B Robinson was advised that a warning would be placed on the geldings barrier manners.
