General:
 
Due to a leak in the irrigation on Wednesday 13 March 2019 near the 250m the rail from the 400m to the winning post was moved out 3.5m. Due to heavy rainfall the night prior to today’s meeting it was determined that the rail at that point should be moved out a further 1m (4.5m total)
 
Race 1 – TAB A.D. HollindaleStakes May 4 Class 3 Plate – 1800m
 
As J. Lloyd was unable to obtain a medical clearance prior to the first race, after being stood down at Doomben on Saturday 9 March 2019, Stewards permitted M. Cahill to be substituted as the rider of Pickelhaube.
 
Drumadoir – Began awkwardly. Leaving the 500m was bumped on a number of occasions between Sir Barnabus and Seento, which shifted out to improve. App J. Guthmann-Chester (Seento) was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances. When asked to comment on the performance jockey L. Cassidy was of the opinion the mare may not have appreciated today’s heavy track conditions. A post race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.
 
Gun Bolt – Began awkwardly. Overraced in the early stages and near the 1300m had to be steadied from heels and raced wide for the remainder of the event.
 
Seento – Slow to begin. Bumped near the 1500m. Leaving the 500m had difficulty securing clear running to the outside of Sornja and as a consequence bumped Drumadoir on a number of occasions when attempting to improve.
 
Sir Barnabus – Bumped near the 1500m.  Leaving the 500m was bumped on a number of occasions.
 
See The Master – Near the 1300m was steadied from heels and shifted out.
 
Haames – Held up rounding the home turn. Held up over the concluding stages.
 
Gwapo – Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
Sornja – When questioned jockey B. Thornton reported that the mare did not appreciate today’s heavy track conditions. A post race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.
 
M. Cahill (Pickelhaube) was reprimanded for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m.
 
 
Race 2 – Moco Meats Rump Steaks Benchmark 85 Handicap – 2400m
 
As P. Hammersley was overweight and no senior rider was available at the weight Stewards permitted App B. Nothdurft to be substituted as the rider of Meteorologist. Jockey Hammersley was fined $200.
 
The start was delayed when Errol had to be reshod behind the barriers.
 
Wu Gok – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Near the 2100m had to be steadied from heels. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
Errol – Steadied when tightened for room shortly after the start.Near the 1500m left a trailing position due to the slow tempo and improved three wide to obtain the lead near the 1100m.
 
The Zoff – Overraced in the early stages.
 
Our Gravano – Overraced in the early and middle stages.
 
Follow Suit – Held up passing the 600m and again rounding the home turn.
 
D. Smith (Fighting Teo) was fined $100 for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m.
 
M. Cahill (Wu Gok) was fined $100 for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m.
 
 
Race 3 – McCain Foods NMW Handicap – 900m
 
Dominant Crown – Slow to begin.
Odds Or Evens – Slow to begin.
 
Bachelor’s Art – Slow to begin. Passing the 600m had to be steadied away from the heels of Cossie.
 
Cossie – Leaving the 600m became unbalanced after being bumped by Lady McCabe when tightened for room.
 
Bonsho – Near the 600m was bumped by Cossie.
 
Allround Glory – Raced five wide without cover throughout.
 
High Cost – Raced four wide without cover throughout.
 
Lady McCabe – Raced three wide without cover throughout.
 
Ahwahneechee – Race wide throughout.
 
 
Race 4 – Lilydale Chicken Benchmark 70 Handicap – 1200m
 
Warface – Reared as the start was effected.
 
Fabulonh – Slow to begin.
 
Madluce Missile – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped Cabeirian.
 
Cabeirian – Bumped at the start. Overraced in the early stages.
 
I Am Venus – Bumped shortly after the start. Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
Jobiwood – Overraced in the early stages. Bled during the event. Trainer D. Fletcher was advised that as this was the second occasion the gelding had bled it will  now incur a lifetime ban from racing.
 
Go Dixie – Overraced in the early and middle stages and as a consequence was obliged to race four wide without cover for the majority of the event.
 
Cool Drafts – Held up rounding the home turn.
 
Boom Boy – Held up rounding the home turn and was obliged to shift back to the inside of I Am Venus to secure clear running.
 
Race 5 – Perfect Italiano Benchmark 70 Handicap – 1200m
 
Tisani Magic – Stood flatfooted at the start. Near the 1100m had to be steadied from heels. Near the 250m was disappointed for a run and had to be steadied, following which it was obliged to shift back to the inside of Char Char to secure clear running.
Bold Warrior – Began awkwardly. Near the 250m was inconvenienced when attempting to improve to the inside of Zollikon Miss. Raced wide throughout.
 
Hold On – Began awkwardly and lost ground. It was noted that the mare had sustained a laceration to its near hind cannon.
 
Aristograts – Held up rounding the home turn.
 
Char Char – Shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages and approaching the winning post had to be corrected to avoid the heels of Winter Passage.
 
Scorcha – Raced three wide without cover throughout. When asked to comment on the performance jockey B. Stewart was of the opinion the mare may not have appreciated today’s heavy track conditions. A post race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.
 
Monaco Playboy – Raced four wide without cover throughout.
 
Following the running of this event the track was downgraded to a Heavy 10.
 
 
Race 6 – Moco Food Services Gold Coast Stakes – 1800m

Mishani Vaidra – Fractious in the barriers and was slow to begin.
 
High Degree – In the early stages had to be steadied when tightened for room. Held up approaching the home turn. Raced wide throughout.
 
Ingeegoodbe – Near the 1500m overraced and had to be steadied from heels. Stable representative M. Sharpe was of the opinion that the gelding did not appreciate today’s heavy track conditions. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding had cast an off fore plate with no other abnormalities.
 
Endless Days – Overraced in the early stages and as a consequence raced wide without cover throughout.
 
Xebec – Overraced in the middle stages and subsequently was obliged to race wide for the majority of the event.
 
Looks Like Elvis – Jockey M. McGillivray reported that the gelding overraced in the early and middle stages and in his opinion may have come to the end of its current preparation. Trainer B. Dais advised that he would consult with connections before making a determination on the gelding’s current racing preparation.
 
App B. Nothdurft (High Degree) was reprimanded for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m.
 
 
 
Race 7 – Aquis QTIS 2YO Jewel – 1200m
 
Timely Bel – Eased when tightened for room shortly after the start.
 
Miss Cavallo – Bumped at the start. Eased when tightened for room shortly after the start. Blundered in the going near the 700m.
 
Buckets Of Pride – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout.
 
Time For Love – Bumped at the start. Inconvenienced by Miss Cavallo, which shifted out near the 500m. Raced wide throughout.
 
Sugar Boom – Bumped at the start.
 
Epicurious – Bumped at the start. Inclined to lay in during the early stages.
 
Girls Are Ready – Shortly after the start had to be steadied when awkwardly placed at the heels of Xanthus. Steadied from heels near the 600m.
 
Class Of Royalty – Approaching the 1000m shifted in and had to be steadied from the heels of Perudo. Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
Xanthus – Cast a near fore plate in running.
 
Jockey A. Allen (Class Of Royalty) was fined $100 for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m.
 
Jockey B. Stewart (Perudo) was fined $200 for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m.
 
 
Following the running of this event Stewards met with a delegation of riders who expressed concerns with the lack of visibility as a result of a heavy down pour prior to the race and the deteriorating track conditions. Stewards were concerned that these factors would compromise the safety of the riders and overall competitiveness and subsequently made the decision to abandon the remainder of the meeting.
