The gelding which performed poorly and tired noticeably over the concluding stages, underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed no apparent abnormalities.

BON HENRY – Poor performance. Trainer N. Rogers indicated that it was his preferred option to immediately retire the gelding. Stewards in assessing todays poor performance, also intend to place a TAB bar on the gelding.

Race 2 – Belle Maison Realty QTIS 3YO Maiden Handicap – 900m

THE SLEDGEHAMMER underwent a pre-race veterinary examination due to returning to racing after a lengthy spell and was passed fit to start.

Stewards considered an objection lodged by Jockey L. Dittman the rider of GRAPHITE EXPRESS which finished 2nd against DEEJAYBEAT (Jockey L. Rolls) being declared the winner on the grounds of alleged interference over the final 300m. In the presence of both riders, Mr D. Small, stable representative for Mr John Smerdon and Mr M. Plumb, stable representative for Mrs G. Heinrich, and after considering the evidence from all parties and reviewing the official footage, Stewards noted that Jockey Dittman was obliged to slightly redirect his mount near the 300m and 200m. Stewards also noted that inside the final 80m Jockey Rolls mount shifted out 1½ to 2 horses and brushed with Jockey Dittmans mount. Stewards, after considering these three points of interference and considering the nose margin, were of the view that collectively the interference suffered to Jockey Dittman was greater than the nose margin and upheld the protest and amended the placings to read:-

2nd - 8
3rd - 1
4th - 9

Jockey G. Colless (SPEEDGUN) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) for permitting his mount to shift out near the 200m resulting in BURNING SUCCESS being hampered and both SNIP THE MO and SHADYVALE STAR being checked.
