CLASS OF ROYALTY – Began awkwardly and shifted out.

BOOTS ‘N’ AWE – Shortly after the start laid out and made heavy contact with IN GREAT NIC. Passing the 1200m after being crossed initially by IN GREAT NIC commenced to overrace and raced ungenerously proving difficult to restrain. When asked to comment on the tactics adopted Jockey N. Day stated he was instructed to race in a handy position if possible as per the gelding’s recent run at Beaudesert, where it positioned behind the leaders. Jockey Day added that he was advised by Trainer C. Munce not to get into a speed duel throughout the event noting that the possible leader would be CLASS OF ROYALTY. Jockey Day further added that once crossed by IN GREAT NIC the gelding had overraced for a short distance but after passing the 900m travelled comfortably in a similar position to its last start and when placed under pressure rounding the home turn and in the early part of the home straight proved disappointing. Stewards noted the explanation.

IN GREAT NIC – Shortly after the start was bumped by BOOTS ‘N’ AWE.

DARK ARCHER – Shortly after the start was bumped by PHIONAIX, which laid in and became awkwardly placed at the heels of CLASS OF ROYALTY and blundered almost dislodging its rider.

PHIONAIX – After passing the 200m improved onto heels and had to be steadied and alter course to the outside to obtain clear running.  When asked to explain the tactics adopted Jockey R. Plumb explained that after beginning fairly from a wide barrier and then laying in shortly after the start and bumping heavily with DARK ARCHER was then allowed to balance up and he elected to restrain to the rear to find a position closer to the rail as he was of the opinion if he had pressed forward he may have been caught wide.  Jockey Plumb further added that as the gelding was having its first start over 1400m he was of the opinion that going forward would have been detrimental to its chances to finish the race off. Stewards noted his explanation.

Passing the 500m raced in restricted room to the inside of I LIKE CANDY for a short distance. Approaching the 300m was disappointed for a run to the outside of ZOFF ‘N’ OFF and to the inside of I LIKE CANDY and in doing so bumped the hind quarters of I LIKE CANDY, which turned that runner in and then held up for clear running until approaching the 100m.
