Today’s meeting was programmed to proceed with the rail in the true position however a sprinkler malfunction on Friday night resulted in a section between the 300m and 400m being assessed in the heavy range. This malfunction necessitated the rail to be then moved out 6m between the 600m and 400m and then a cutaway.
 
 
Race 1 – DYNAMIC DP QTIS 2YO Handicap – 900m
 
SQUARE DANCE – Began awkwardly and shifted out bumping SINO DEFEAT. When racing in a midfield position commenced to overrace and near the 600m after improving onto the heels of ALL GOOD MILLO had to be steadied. Approaching the home turn when racing tightly to the inside of SINO DEFEAT brushed the rail, shifted out and lost its position. Connections were advised that a warning would be placed on the colt regarding its racing manners.
 
SINO DEFEAT – Bumped on jumping.
 
BEANHUGGED – Inconvenienced and obliged to steady near the 300m when awkwardly placed at the heels of BID IN A HURRY, which shifted in. App J. Guthmann-Chester (BID IN A HURRY) was reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) for permitting his mount to shift in.
 
SIZZLELOVER – Raced four wide throughout, made the home turn awkwardly and shifted wider.
 
BID IN A HURRY – Raced three wide throughout.
 
INFORMER – Raced three wide with cover throughout.
 
 
Race 2 – APS Staff Class 2 Handicap – 900m
 
DAUNTING DUCHESS – Began moderately.
 
TIGER LOVE – When asked to comment regarding the below market performance Jockey S. Galloway stated that the filly travelled fairly until the 500m however, when trailing in a one out position it did not stride out as expected and he felt with the filly only being small in stature had difficulty with the rise in weight up to 58 kilos. Jockey Galloway was also of the view that the filly may be better suited in distances further than today’s event. Jockey Galloway was  reminded of his obligations to ensure he fully tests his mounts to the line.
 
 
Race 3 – Amalgamated Group Maiden Plate – 1400m
 
MERLIN’S MAGIC – Very slow into stride.
 
CAIRNDOW – Slow into stride.
 
ENTERTAINER – Raced keenly in the early stages.
 
NALSSENDORI – Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight. Near the 100m mark had to steady from DISCOMBE, which shifted out slightly.
 
DISCOMBE – Momentarily shifted wider near the 100m before being corrected by its rider.
 
 
Race 4 – JP Flying Ratings Band 0-62 Handicap – 1800m
 
Correct weight was delayed in order for the connections of the fourth placed runner to view the photo image. Once satisfied correct weight was declared on the Judge’s placings.
 
SIDERO STAR – Slow into stride.
 
UNLEASH THE RED – Slow into stride and shortly after had to be steadied from the heels of DANTE ROSSETTI, which shifted in.Inclined to lay in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
DANTE ROSSETTI – Shifted in approaching the home turn before being corrected by its rider.
 
BRAVO UNCLE BILLY – Jockey G. Colless reported that his mount was inclined to hang out throughout the event.
 
PIGINARKI – Jockey A. Fancourt stated that it was not her intention to lead in today’s event however, after beginning fairly the mare commenced to overrace and as the speed was slow in the early stages she then elected to press forward to assume the lead passing the 1400m. Jockey Fancourt further stated that the mare continued to overrace for some distance and proved difficult to settle.
 
 
Race 5 – Total Building Refurbishments QTIS 3YO Maiden Handicap – 1200m
 
NUCLEAR BOOM – Bumped on jumping. Steadied for a stride near the 1100m when ANGELIC ARCHER shifted in. Raced three wide throughout.
 
MISS ALLE BE – Began awkwardly and shifted out. Commenced to overrace near the 700m, shifted out and bumped NUCLEAR BOOM.
 
KING’S RULE – Approaching the 700m commenced to overrace, improved onto the heels of XUANNU and shifted out.
 
SHONO MERCY – Near the 600m commenced to overrace, improved onto the heels of FLICK and had to be steadied.
 
CAPTAIN RIDDLE – Raced greenly in the home straight and put in an awkward stride near the 150m.
 
FLICK – Jockey J. Woodhouse dropped his whip approaching the line.
 
 
Race 6 – Amalgamated Painting Maiden Plate – 1100m
 
SHOW DECK – Began moderately then shifted in and had to be steadied from the heels of STUKWUN.
 
 
Race 7 – All Strata Projects Class 3 Handicap – 1300m
 
PURE PULSE – As the start was effected the gelding momentarily stood flatfooted and lost ground. Held up approaching the home turn. When asked to comment on the performance Jockey L. Rolls stated that after being slowly away the gelding settled further back in the field than anticipated and when asked for an effort on straightening the gelding did not respond as expected under its weight allocation of 58 ½ kilos. A post race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities and a swab sample was taken from the gelding.
 
NATURAL FORCE – Slow into stride.
 
 
 
Race 8 – Amalgamated Project Management Class 1 Handicap – 1200m
 
Trainer S. Kendrick was fined $200 for the late notification of S. Galloway as the rider of RAISE AN ARMY.
 
Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by trainer A. Plumb for the late notification of A. Fancourt as the rider of SAN PIERRE.
 
The start was delayed when STAY SMART got its tongue over the bit.
 
STAY SMART – Began awkwardly. Raced three wide for the majority. Near the 600m shifted in tightening SAN PIERRE to its inside. App A. Thompson was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances. App Thompson also added that in his opinion the gelding may have got its tongue over the bit which may have contributed to the incident. Trainer G. Booth advised Stewards that he would likely add a tongue tie to the gelding’s registered gear.
 
CENTREFIRE – Began awkwardly and shifted in tightening runners to its inside. Shifted out considerably over the final 250m. Jockey S. Cormack was reminded of his obligations to ensure his mounts maintain a true line in the run to the finish.
 
BRAHMA ARMOUR – Tightened on jumping and had to be steadied.
 
ALL SHIRAZ - Tightened on jumping and had to be steadied.
 
STAGE PLAY - Tightened on jumping and had to be steadied. Steadied rounding the home turn when FLYING PRETTY eased wider to improve. Jockey A. Chau reported he was disappointed in the filly’s performance today and was not entirely happy with its action. Trainer G. Heinrich advised Stewards she would have a veterinary assessment performed on the filly and forward any adverse findings which may have affected its performance.
 
BALERION – Raced ungenerously and got its head up for some distance passing the 1000m. Near the 600m again raced ungenerously.
 
SAN PIERRE – Tightened passing the 600m when STAY SMART laid in obliging its rider to steady.Steadied from the heels of CENTREFIRE, which shifted out near the 100m mark.
 
BRYBECK – Steadied from the heels of STAGE PLAY rounding the home turn.
 
RAISE AN ARMY – A post race veterinary examination determined the gelding to be lame in the off fore leg. Trainer S. Kendrick was advised that a veterinary clearance will be required prior to the gelding racing again.
