Race Day Stewards Report

Aquis Thoroughbreds

Date: 15 February 2020

Track: Heavy 10; After R6 upgraded to a Heavy 9

Penetrometer: 7.0

Rail: +5.5m 1400m-W/Post; +3m remainder

Stewards Panel: N. Boyle (Chairman), K. Daly, P. Reardon, A. Turner

Officials: Dr.S. Flynn (Veterinarian), Stewards (Clerk of Scales), S. McMahon (Judge), T. Woodham, K. Watson (Starters), K. Kilpatrick, A. Challen (Swab Officials), L. Stokes (Secretary)

General:

Stewards inspected the track Friday afternoon, 14 February 2020, and again Saturday morning, 15 February 2020. Stewards had concerns with an area of track around the 750m at the mouth of the 900m chute. Following this mornings inspection, Stewards deemed this section of track unsuitable for racing and after consultation with Racing Queensland and Gold Coast Turf Club officials, it was decided that the journey of this race was unable to be altered to a suitable distance and therefore, Racing Queensland abandoned this race. Stewards also had concerns with a section of track near the 1100m at the mouth of the 1200m chute. Stewards deemed this section of track unsuitable for racing and after consultation with Racing Queensland and Gold Coast Turf Club officials, decided that the four 1200m races today, would start on the course proper and not out of the chute.

After receiving advice from the Integrity Investigations Team that TOCOKOE and MADAM MAHAL may have been administered treatment today, a day they were scheduled to race, Stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that both horses were not treated. Acting under AR20(d) Stewards ordered the withdrawal of both horses at 10.45am. Stewards intend to interview Trainer R. Smith regarding the matter at a later date.

As Jockey J. Woodhouse was indisposed due to personal reasons, rider replacements were made as per Stewards Race Day Summary.

Race 1 – Abandoned

Race 2 – Gold Coast Hospital Foundation Maiden Plate – 1400m

THE SEVEN FALLS – Slow to begin.

BLUE BOY MCCOMBE – Shorty after jumping was crowded for room and lost ground when PRINCESS SPARKLES and CARIBBEAN KISSES both shifted.

When asked to comment on the performance, App. A. Patis explained that after being hampered on jumping and then being forced to race wide without cover, the gelding faded over the final 200m which she attributed to the wide run and being second up today on the heavy track. Stewards noted the explanation.

MILL CITY - Crowded for room and lost ground shortly after jumping.

Jockeys B. Powell and A. Chau were reminded of their obligations to ride their mounts out fully to the finish line. Stewards after looking at the footage were satisfied that their actions did not have any effect on the result of the race.

BEAT ZA DRUM – Slow into stride. Upon straightening when placed under pressure, laid in. Shortly afterwards approaching the 250m was hampered by CANDY FLOSS which was taken in by SUNDAY SASSY.
