GENERAL

A track inspection was conducted by Stewards and accompanied by senior riders Ryan Plumb, Jag Guthmann-Chester and Travis Wolfgram prior to the commencement of Race 1. It was determined that sections of the track several metres out from the rail had undergone remedial works earlier in the week and had not recovered sufficiently and in order to negate these sections Stewards instructed the rail to be moved in a further 2.5 metres between the 950 metres - 400 metres. The commencement of Race 1 was subsequently delayed and the race times were amended as follows:

Race 1 to commence at 1:13pm
Race 2 to commence at 1:53pm
Race 3 to commence at 2:33pm
Race 4 to commence at 3:13pm
Race 5 to commence at 3:53pm
Race 6 to commence at 4:28pm
Race 7 to commence at 5:05pm
Race 8 to commence at 5:42pm
Race 9 to commence at 6:12pm



RACE 1: CLIQUE CLASSIC QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP 1200 METRES

EXAMPLES – Raced keenly leaving the 1000 metres. Shortly thereafter steadied from the heels of CHERRY SODA and lost ground.

BIG ANDY – Slow to begin. Near the 900 metres shifted wider on the track when inconvenienced momentarily.

CONTESSA – Inconvenienced passing the 900 metres and forced wider on the track. Raced three-wide for the remainder of the event.

SUNNY EKCELS – Slow to begin.

KEEN AS A BEAN – Slow to begin. Near the 900 metres when the pace eased was obliged to check his mount from the heels of EXAMPLES and lost ground. Tired over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.


RACE 2: JENGA JO QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP 1200 METRES

DIS GO BOOM – Tactics queried. Rider A Allen reported that it was his intention to roll forward as he envisaged being able to take cover early in a one-off position, however when caught three-wide he then attempted to cross to a one-off position. Rider Allen was then obliged to race three-wide throughout.

KIRKEBY – Slow to begin. Shortly thereafter tightened between runners. Rider B Pengelly was fined $200 pursuant to AR122(1) for failing to wear a properly affixed helmet whilst mounted on KIRKEBY prior to the commencement of the race.

BEN HUR – Held up rounding the home turn and in the early part of the home straight.

DEAL OF POWER – Tactics queried. Rider G Cartwright reported that her instructions were to be in the second half of the field due to the wide barrier, however after beginning unexpectedly well she elected to restrain in an attempt to get the filly to settle. Rider Cartwright further reported that the filly would derive benefit from a distance further than that of today’s event.

SAXON ROSE – Slow to begin. Trainer N Luke was reprimanded pursuant to LR36(6) for accepting SAXON ROSE for more than one race at the same race meeting (being Race 2 and Race 5) and failing to scratch out of all but one of those races prior to the advertised scratching time.


RACE 3: WK PROJECTS BENCHMARK 62 HANDICAP 2200 METRES

FU NI – Restless in the barriers. Began awkwardly. Rider S Galloway reported that his right leg made heavy contact with the barrier partition on jumping. Rider Galloway underwent an examination by the Queensland Ambulance Services, however later complained of soreness in the affected leg and was stood down for the remainder of his rides. Rider Galloway was advised that he would be required to provide a medical clearance prior to riding again.

D’CLONE – Held up for clear running between the 600 metres and the 450 metres before easing very wide to obtain clear running.


RACE 4: SKYLINE RESTAURANT BOOK NOW CLASS 5 PLATE 1100 METRES

REDCORE – Slow to begin.

VOILA – Slow to begin. Rider B Pengelly reported that the mare raced flat and was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame in the near fore. Stable representatives were advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to the mare’s next race start.


RACE 5: NICK BELL IBROX MARATHON MAN MEMORIAL FILLIES & MARES MAIDEN HANDICAP 1400 METRES

Prior to the declaration of correct weight rider T Wolfgram, in conjunction with stable representatives of Munce Racing, reviewed the race footage in the home straight with a possible view to lodging an objection however upon review neither party chose to proceed with any objection.

ISABELLA’S SPRING – Slow to begin. Performance queried. Rider A Chau reported that he was under no specific instructions today and after being marginally slower to begin he settled in a position further back than he anticipated. Rider Chau further reported that during the middle stages when the tempo was steadied he was obliged to race further back and in doing so found it difficult to make up ground.

HOT NEWS – Slow to begin. Near the 400 metres inconvenienced when tightened for racing room when KERCHARMER laid in marginally.

LA ROCA – Slow to begin.

MY ADELINE – The start was delayed when MY ADELINE proved difficult to load. Overraced in the middle stages.

TANGO TINO – The filly underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after it contacted a rail leaving the enclosure and was cleared to start.

KERCHARMER – Near the 250 metres was bumped on the hindquarters and became unbalanced when HOT NEWS shifted out to improve. Rider J Guthmann-Chester was reminded of his obligations to exercise greater care when shifting ground.

STELLAR – Slow to begin.

IDIDITMYWAY – Stood flat footed as the start was effected. Trainer G Cornish was advised that the mare must obtain a barrier certificate prior to racing again.


RACE 6: VALE DAVID EDWARDS COLTS, GELDINGS & ENTIRES MAIDEN HANDICAP 1400 METRES

ZOUNATE – When asked for a comment regarding the gelding’s performance, rider G Cartwright reported that after initially leading the gelding settled well, however when challenged passing the 800 metres raced keenly and would not settle.

BRAVE NICK – Laid in in the home straight.

EIGHTYTHREE BRICKS – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

MALACHINI – Slow to begin.

ATOMIC FEATHER – Shortly after the start was effected was buffeted between runners and lost ground.

ETHEREUM – Delayed the start (approximately 3 minutes) when proved difficult to load. Trainer D Murphy was advised that a barrier certificate would be required prior to racing again. Began awkwardly. Shortly thereafter tightened between runners.

SPIN THAT WHEEL - As no suitable rider replacement was available to replace injured rider S Galloway, SPIN THAT WHEEL was declared a late scratching at 4:09pm by order of Stewards.

Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards declared that all bets placed on SPIN THAT WHEEL be refunded in full with the following deductions to apply:

2 cents the win (HAPPY BABE)
1 cent the place (HAPPY BABE)
1 cent the place (ZOUNATE)
2 cents (BRAVE NICK)


RACE 7: THE EMF PERFORMANCE CENTRE BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 900 METRES

BATTLE THROUGH – Bumped on jumping.

HAUNTED HOUSE – Raced wide for the majority.

LADY TULESSA – Bumped on jumping.

MAGIC DESERT MOON – Slow to begin.

SECONDOFMAY – Raced wide for the majority.


RACE 8: PAUL HILLIER HAPPY 60TH BIRTHDAY CLASS 1 PLATE 1200 METRES

PRIDE OF PYINGERRA – Start was delayed (approximately 2 minutes) when the gelding cast a hind plate enroute to the barriers. As this plate could not be reattached, the gelding’s remaining hind plate was removed.

DANISH FORTUNE – Momentarily forced wider near the 800 metres.

MENINDEE – Blundered on jumping.

BONNIE EV – Leaving the 800 metres made contact with the running rail and shifted out abruptly, carrying DANISH FORTUNE wider. Raced greenly and shifted out.

FAIRY BEAST – Slow to begin.

FALANDY – Bumped on jumping.

PRINCESS JUDE – Began awkwardly. Carried wider by MY BEST SELLER and raced wide for the remainder. Performed poorly. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be bilaterally shortened. Trainer G Doughty was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to the mare’s next race start.

ZEELUCK – Began awkwardly and shifted in.

XUANNU – Raced three-wide for the majority.

ITSALLKAY – Slow to begin.

MY BEST SELLER – Inconvenienced and forced wider near the 800 metres.


RACE 9: VALE STUART HOLLINDALE BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 1400 METRES

ACHIEVE VICTORY – Inconvenienced shortly after the start when DEFIANT DIVA shifted in. Raced keenly in the middle stages.

GDANSK – Apprentice J Lloyd reported that the gelding hung out throughout and entering the home straight continued to hang despite the efforts of its rider. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Co-trainer Trent Edmonds was advised that the gelding would be required to trail to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again.

THE DARK – Tightened between runners on jumping.

DAUNTING WARRIOR – Raced three-wide throughout.

PRINCESS CAVALLO – Raced keenly in the early stages.

DEFIANT DIVA – Shifted in on jumping.

AMY EKCELS – Was carried wider when DANSDALE shifted out to improve.

DANSDALE – Stewards permitted rider G Walters to ride the gelding 0.5kg over its allotted weight when no other rider was available.

SANDY TOES – Raced three-wide throughout.
