Race 1: BUTLER FABRICATIONS MAIDEN PLATE – 850 metres

The start was delayed when MIA SINGA broke through the barriers and had to be resaddled.

Correct weight was delayed to allow jockey H Phillips to exam the film to ascertain whether there were grounds for a protest. After viewing the films available, jockey H Phillips declined to protest.

BIANCHI BRAVO – A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

GLAM ROCK – When rounding the home turn had to be eased off the heels of TENOR LASS when that runner shifted in marginally. App E Smith was reminded to exercise more care when shifting ground in future.

MIA SINGA – Underwent a pre race veterinary examination after breaking through the barriers and was passed fit to start.

LADY CECILA – Slow to begin and failed to muster speed in the early stages.

Race 2: SMALL MOTOR SERVICE QTIS BM55 HANDICAP – 850 metres

POETIC DRAGON – Slow to begin

SERPENTI – Raced wide without cover throughout. Rider stated that his mount didn’t handle the sand surface today and failed to respond to his riding.

STICK WITH ME – When questioned regarding the tactics adopted, jockey H Phillips stated that after jumping well, she elected to take advantage of the early gate speed and race in the lead, as racing in the kickback would be a disadvantage. She added that at Nanago back on the 3rd August 2019, the horse raced closer to the speed without leading and after today’s positive result from leading, advised connections to continue this racing pattern. Stewards accepted the explanation.

FADED MIST – Stood flat footed and missed the start (5L). Trainer D Schulz will be advised that a warning would be placed on the mare for standing flat footed. A post race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame in both forelegs. Trainer D Schulz will be advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness would be required prior to the mare’s next start.

ZLOTO – Jockey D Simmons reported the mare did not handle the track conditions at any stage of the event. Trainer R Williams reported that after the mares disappointing performances on dirt this preparation would look to only run ZLOTO on grass surface in future.

GRASSMERE FLYER – Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages

Race 3: ‘ON THE BIT’ AWARDS FEBRUARY 6TH CLB HANDICAP – 1000 metres

SIXES – Hung in throughout the event and in the vicinity of the 300m, rider R Oakford reported that his saddle shifted placing him at a disadvantage over the concluding stages.

DUAN PHOENIX – Rider N Summers reported that her mount hung out throughout the event and was placed at a disadvantage as a result. Trainer D Schulz will be advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding.

STREAMLINER – Underwent a prerace veterinary examination after competing at Rockhampton on the 25th October 2019 and was passed fit to start. In the vicinity of the 700m, had to be steadied to avoid the heels of SIXES who shifted in and LIGHTHORSE which shifted out.

PUMP ACTION – Rider reported that after being slow to begin, her mount then resented the kickback and failed to handle the sand surface.

ROCKETHEAD – Laid in over the concluding stages.

LIGHTHORSE – Rider H Phillips reported her saddle shifted in the vicinity of the 700m, which placed her at a disadvantage for the remainder of the event.

Race 4: BYRON BAY LAGER BM65 HANDICAP – 1194 metres

LADYADA – Jockey H Phillips reported that she felt the mare may have struggled with the 59kg today and added that the mare may have been coming to the end of its preparation. Trainer G Green concurred with jockey Phillips and indicated the mare would now be spelled.

SHELTER LADY – Slow to begin and failed to muster early pace.

Race 5: ‘BE COOL COLDROOMS’ CLB HANDICAP – 1517 metres

CAPTAIN TOM – Hampered on jumping. Travelled wide throughout.

QUEEN CONSORT – Jockey R Oakford was allowed to ride the mare 1.5kg over weight when no other rider was available.

POWER FROM WITHIN – Underwent a pre race veterinary examination after competing at Sunshine Coast on the 25th October 2019 and was found to not be in a satisfactory condition to compete today. On the announcement of correct weight, stewards ordered all investments on POWER FROM WITHIN be refunded with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers prior to 3.57pm

3c win and 4c place for QUEEN OF CONSORT
4c place for SATURN OPS
4c place for CAPTAIN TOM

Stewards enquired into the reasons why POWER FROM WITHIN was presented on course 25 minutes prior to starting time. Trainer G Sitek stated that he had difficulty loading the mare en route to the track today and also had traffic delays. Stewards noted the explanation and ascertained that G Sitek had made contact with the Gladstone Turf Club advising of the difficulties he was enduring. Nonetheless stewards ordered a sample to be collected from the mare.

RENEWING HOPE – Jockey H Phillips reported that she was placed at a disadvantage during the concluding stages after the gelding threw its head in the air which resulted in contact being made with the mouth of jockey Phillips.

RETAIRIUS – Made contact with the starting gates and reared shortly after.

SOME IT IS – Jockey M Haley was allowed to ride the mare half a kilo over weight when no other rider was available. Slow to begin. Jockey M Haley reported the mare never travelled during the race and failed to respond to his riding and in his opinion, was disappointing.
