Stewards sought an explanation from Apprentice L.Dillon regarding her failure to attend Apprentice School on the Monday 16th September 2019. Stewards after hearing submissions accepted her explanation.
 
Race 1 – Jeffery Cuddihy & Joyce Maiden Plate 1170m
DARK ORPHAN was declared a late scratching at the barriers at 1.26pm under veterinary advice. The mare was found to be lame in the left fore. Connections were advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to its next start.
 
Stewards ordered that all monies invested prior on DARK ORPHAN to be refunded in full with the following deductions to apply for successful bets:
 
7c for the win (7 SEE FOR YOURSELF)
8c place for first place (7 SEE FOR YOURSELF)
8c place for second place (5 MAY I SAY)
9c place for third place (EL NINO’S CHOICE)
 
MOA’S GIRL – When questioned about the below market performance Jockey M.Crawford stated it was his intention to lead however the filly failed to show sufficient speed to obtain a forward position and trailed the back of the field. Jockey M.Crawford also felt the filly had resented the sand kickback.
 
EL NINO’S CHOICE – Caught wide in the early stages and elected to stride forward to the lead. Jockey R.Faehr reported at scale that he felt the gelding was awkward in its action and subsequently underwent a post race veterinary examination. **
 
CRAIGLEA WARKAT – Eased early to obtain cover. Had a tendency to lay in under pressure in the home straight.
 
NANCY BIRD – Slow to muster speed.
 
MARREW RONNIE – Slow to begin.
 
 
Race 2 – Foxy Lady Class B Handicap 1030m
Due to no other rider being available, Stewards permitted apprentice G.Hayes to ride his mount (TRIPLE WON) 1kg over the allotted weight.
 
The declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow Jockey G.Hayes review the photo finish. Once satisfied, Stewards declared correct weight on the judges placings.
 
CIMARRON KID – Brushed by TARGETS rounding the home turn when weakening.
 
STORM ANCHOR – Race three wide throughout.
 
HINTERLAND SAM – Slow to begin.
 
NOT TO TONIGHT DEAR – Slow to begin.
 
DIA VERNON – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages. When questioned regarding the below market performance, Jockey C.Eaton explained that the gelding was having its first start on a sand track and in her opinion did not appreciate the sand kickback and felt the gelding had difficulty gaining sufficient traction on the track. A post race veterinary examination which revealed no significant findings.
 
HEZAGIGOLO – Raced wide throughout.
 
TRIPLE WON – Raced wide throughout. 
 
Race 3 – Topsy Bath Memorial Benchmark 60 Handicap 850m
HE’S A WITNESS – Slow into stride. Apprentice G.Hayes reported that gelding resented the sand kickback.
 
MASTER DENRHO – Raced wide throughout. Lost near fore plate in running.
 
NEED FINANCE – Raced three wide.
 
WINDQUEST – Blundered badly at the start and dislodged rider. Jockey H.Phillips was examined by on course QAS and was cleared to fulfil her remaining engagements.
 
Race 4 – Baldwins Lawyers Benchmark 55 Handicap 1600m
Due to no other rider being available, Stewards permitted apprentice G.Hayes to ride his mount (LIPSTICK EFFECT) 1kg over the allotted weight.
 
KALANGADOO CHROME – Had to steady off heels passing 1000m and was obliged to shift wider as a result. Raced three wide for the remainder to avoid the sand kick back.
 
ELUSIVE ELEMENT – Hampered on jumping by CANTILLATE. Raced wide throughout.
 
CANTILLATE – Shifted in on jumping.
 
QUEEN CONSORT – Raced wide throughout.
 
CHOPPA – Slow into stride. Jockey A.Best reported that in his opinion the gelding may have felt awkward in its action. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the near foreleg. Trainer G.Sitek was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to its next start. He also added that it was his intention to send the gelding immediately to spell.
 
PERSISTENT SHADOW – Began awkwardly.
 
Race 5 – Gympie Times Spring Cup Benchmark 60 Handicap 1170m
 
BIT ALRIGHT – Jockey S.Lacy reported that mare blundered at the start and began awkwardly.
 
DARK FORCE – Race three wide with no cover before improving forward to the lead passing the 600m.
 
MALCRIADO – Raced four wide early with no cover. Jockey H.Phillips reported that in her opinion the gelding resented the sand kick back.
