Race Day Stewards’ Report

Home Hill Thoroughbreds

Date: 08/08/2020

Weather: Fine

Track: Good 4

Rail: True

Stewards Panel: C Warren, P Lane, D Lane, C Bew.

Officials: Dr D Viero (Veterinarian & SCO), J Cullen (Starter), T Davies (Judge), Stewards (Clerk of Scales & Book Makers Supervisor)

Race 1 –  Bendigo Community Bank Class B Handicap (1460m)

DREAM PIECE- Stewards accepted the reasons tendered for the late declaration of rider on the gelding. None the less Mr Campeao was reminded of his obligations under the provisions of LR67(1)(3). Went amis and shifted wider rounding the 1200m turn taking another runner wider before blundering and being retired from the race. A subsequent veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have sustained an injury to its off-ride shoulder and it was subsequently euthanised on humane grounds. Both blood and urine samples were taken for analysis.

THE ABYSS-  Trainer Mr P Minter advised Stewards that the gelding had shifted a plate and was subsequently unable to be shod. Stewards therefore permitted the gelding to race without hind plates. Raced ungenerously in the early stages. Inclined to lay in under pressure down the running having to be restrained off the heels of another runner which momentarily shifted out passing the 150m.

NYMERIA- Slow into stride.

SCARY SPICE- Laid out shortly aftter the start bumping with another runner. Raced ungenerously for a short distance passing the 1000m. Finished tailed off. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be exhibiting signs of mild dehydration.

CAFFE ROMANO- Slow to begin. Inclined to lay out down the running, momentarily inconcviencing another runner passing the 200m. Raced wide throughout.

BULLET LAD- Bumped with another runner which shifted out on jumping. Taken wider by another running rounding the 1200m turn.

Race 2 – L’Shu on Queen QTIS Maiden Plate (1460m)

REBEL LAKE-Under went a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to start. Difficult to load. Trainer Mr R Gudge was advised a warning would be placed on the geldings barrier manners. Inclined to laid in under pressure down the running placing M Potgieter at a slight disadvantage and making contact with another runner passing the 100m. Raced wide the majority.

SO SURREEL- After being margnially slow into stride was buffetted between runners soon after jumping. Raced wide the majority.

NUCLEAR BOOM- Shifted in at the start and bumped with another runner.

SHAKA DIAMOND- Bumped by another runner which shifted in at the start.

MIZ MACEY- Commenced to race ungenerously rounding the 1200m turn shifting wider on the track and losing ground. Jockey C Jokic advised that she believed the mare to have resented a recent gear change. Trainer Mr M Jokic advised that it was his intention to alter the mares gear prior to racing again. Nonetheless Mr Jokic was advised a warning would be placed on the mares racing manners.

GREY ARTEMIS- Slow into stride.

Correct weight was delayed due to photo finish malfunction. Stewards subsequently viewed the official race footage to confirm the judges numbers and correct weight was declared on the judges semaphored numbers.

Race 3 – Glen Dell Fashion Boutique Benchmark 55 Handicap (1180m)

MISTA BUSY- Turned its head simultaneously as the start was effected missing the start by a considerable margin. Trainer Mr M Jokic was advised the gelding would be required to trial satisfactorily prior to again being permitted to start in a race.

MASTER AGAR- Slow to begin.

ACADEMY HILL- Bumped with another runner on jumping.

MUIRON- Bumped with another runner on jumping. Inclined to over-raced in the early and middle stages.

THE DECKRAIDER- Raced wide throughout.

NOT TONIGHT DEAR- Bumped with another runner on jumping. Over-raced throughout the middle stages when being restrained in an effort to find cover.

JOHN THE RODENT- Bumped with another runner on jumping. Raced wide throughout.

Declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow connections of MISTA BUSY to view the start to ascertain whether there was grounds to be declared a non-runner. After viewing the official footage and hearing submissions from Starter Mr J Cullen, Trainer Mr M Jokic and rider App. M Potgieter Stewards were satisfied that MISTA BUSY had been afforded a fair start and rather it was the barrier manners of the gelding that resulted in it missing the start by a significant margin. As such, correct weight was declared on the judges numbers.

Race 4 – Ispyit Boutique Open Plate (1000m)

EXCEEDINGLY COOL- Bumped with another runner on jumping.

WHOSYOURHOUSEMATE- Bumped with another runner on jumping. Raced three (3) wide without cover throughout.

RAIDEN- Raced wide rounding the home turn.

ZAMEX- Slow into stride. Finished tailed off. Jockey G Kliese advised he believed todays trip to be well below the geldings ideal distance and the step back from the mile to have been to its detriment today. Stewards noted the explanation. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Race 5 – Butterfly Blue Benchmark 60 Handicap (900m)

DO THE HIPPY- Under went a pre-race veterinary examination at the barriers after being fractious in the mounting yard and was passed fit to start. Bumped with another runner on jumping. Raced wide throughout.

MR TINDALL- Bumped with another runner on jumping. Passing the 150m was obliged to steady when a runner to its inside shifted out and away from heels.

KOBY’S STRATEGY- Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout.

HIT SNOOZE- Reared as the start was effected. Shifted out and away from the heels of another runner which shifted out under pressure passing the 150m. Raced wide throughout.

CHIC SOX- Began awkwardly. Improved onto heels approaching the 500m and rounding the home turn having to be eased on both occassions.

BLACK JAGUAR- Began awkwardly. Shifted in and bumped with another runner passing the 850m.

STRYKING PRINCESS- Shifted out and bumped with another runner passing the 850m.

HAYYLER’S ILLUSION- Shifted out momentarily under pressure passing the 150m. Jockey Edwards was reminded of his obligations under the provisions of AR131(a).

KEIGHLEY SUN- Inclined to race ungenerously intermittently throughout the early and middle stages. Became awkwardly placed to the inside of another runner which shifted in marginally passing the 600m.

STRYKING PRINCESS- Shifted in marginally passing the 600m.

Stewards inquired into the reasons both KEIGHLEY SUN (P Romeo) and TELL EVERYBODY (B Thomson) checked passing the 300m. After viewing the patrol footage and hearing the evidence of the riders involved it was ascertained that when negotiating the home turn HIT SNOOZE (A Holt) shifted in marginally causing HAYYLER’S ILLUSION (F Edwards) to shift in and away from that runner. As a result, TELL EVERYBODY ( B Thomson), which was trailing, was obligated to check and shift in to avoid the heels of HAYYLER’S ILLUSION, causing KEIGHLEY SUN to check and lose ground. As Stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that any rider/s were to blame for the incident no further action was taken. Nonetheless, all riders were advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.
