Race 1: SKY RACING CLASS 5 H’CAP – 1000M

SILIQUA – Checked severely shortly after the start when FREQUENDLY jumped in.

BARNSLEY – As apprentice T. Brooker was indisposed due to illness, apprentice A. Sewell was substituted as rider. When questioned regarding the horse’s seemingly improved performance, trainer G. Duncan advised that at its first run back from a spell at Warwick on 26 December 2017, the horse went back from its barrier and when attempting to improve approaching the home turn was forced wider by another runner and lost momentum. He added that given the circumstances of that occasion he was not overly disappointed in its performance, and that with the benefit of that run and being fitter for today’s event and with the small field, he gave the gelding a reasonable chance.

Race 2: RAY WHITE IPSWICH CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1200M

REAL CLASSIC – Slow into stride.

PRETEXT’S DREAM – Hung out from the 600m.

BOLD KINGSTON – Bumped on jumping. Bumped near the 100m.

CONQUERING LASS – Rider obliged to stop riding and straighten approaching the winning post when the filly was hanging in under pressure.

KANUI – Raced three wide without cover.

SEQ THE STAR – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

BAKER BOY – Trainer B. Andrew was afforded the opportunity to explain the horse’s improved performance. Mr Andrew advised that at its previous start the horse drew a wide gate and was trapped off the track on that occasion. He added that at its prior start to that the horse had had an interrupted preparation leading into that event and he was of the view that on that occasion the horse did not stretch out on the firm surface. He said that with the engagement of an apprentice for today’s event, with the horse carrying a lighter weight than at its previous runs, and also with the removal of the tongue tie, he believed these factors had assisted in its performance.

RIDEONABIGJETPLANE – Slow to begin. Overraced in the middle stages and was steadied from heels near the 700m.

HIGHTOWER – Raced three wide.

HETUKA ZARSHO – Checked severely near the 400m to avoid the heels of a weakening runner.

BRIALKA LODGE – Eased down in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings other than that the gelding had lost the off hind plate. Trainer C. Munce will be contacted by stewards regarding the horse’s post-race recovery.
