Race 1: CARLTON DRAUGHT CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1000M

DELAWAR – Commenced to overrace passing the 800m and had to be restrained away from heels, shifted wider on the track and remained racing three wide without cover.

THE REAL BOSS – Late scratching at 10:00 am when the trainer reported that the horse had a high temperature prior to being loaded onto the float.

STAR OF POMPEII – Overraced in the early and middle stages.

PRINCESS SNOWY – Had a tendency to lay in approaching the 200m and brushed the running rail.

Race 2: THE QLD TIMES C,G&E CLASS 3 H'CAP – 1200M

LET’S PARTY MARTY – Had a tendency to lay out under pressure over the concluding stages.

TAIYOSHIN – Had to be steadied away from the heels of LET’S PARTY MARTY passing the 800m and then overraced for a short distance. Hung out after passing the 400m and rounding the home turn.

LAUDERDALE – Fractious in the barriers.

Race 3: RAY WHITE IPSWICH MAIDEN H'CAP – 1100M

RED MAHOGANY – A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings, however the veterinary surgeon was of the opinion that the horse may not have appreciated today’s racing surface. Trainer R. Heathcote advised stewards that he would have his stable vet examine the gelding and report to stewards anything that may have had an effect on the horse’s performance.

KALELARGA – Held up after passing the 400m until entering the straight.

BELLA’S SHADOW – Slow to begin.

LOVE BITES – Raced wide without cover throughout. Inconvenienced on the home turn and taken wider on the track by RED MAHOGANY, which was shifted out by DOOM, which was attempting to improve.

MAHRATTA – Raced wide in the early stages before being allowed to stride forward to obtain a position outside the lead passing the 700m.

Race 4: SIRROMET QTIS 3YO C&G MAIDEN H'CAP – 1100M

BON COURAGE – Blundered on jumping.

OMORFOS – The veterinary surgeon reported that the horse had cast the off fore plate in running.

SAN MARCO – Slow to begin. Forced wider rounding the home turn when CURRUMBIN CRAFT hung out. When questioned regarding the horse’s performance, P. Hammersley stated that, consistent with trials he has ridden the gelding in, his mount was a little bit slow to begin, settled in a midfield position and travelled quite well until rounding the home turn when inconvenienced by CURRUMBIN CRAFT, which forced him wider on the track, however when placed under pressure in the home straight the gelding proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings other than a laceration to the off hind hock.

TOBASCO – Began very awkwardly and made heavy contact with another runner.

CURRUMBIN CRAFT – Bumped heavily at the start. Hung out rounding the home turn.

Race 5: CARLTON MID MAIDEN PLATE – 1350M

The declaration of correct weight was delayed while stewards viewed the video of the concluding stages to determine whether there were grounds to lodge an objection on behalf of 4th placegetter MEYIWA HITAM MAWAR against 3rd placegetter JOEL. After viewing the video, stewards elected not to proceed.

GOLDEN COMMAND – Late scratching at 7:50 am.

EVENING – The veterinary surgeon reported that the horse was lame in the off foreleg after arriving on course and was declared a late scratching at 2:30 pm. Trainer R. Mackay was advised that the horse would require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.

CAVALLI – Slow to begin.

JOEL – Trainer R. Heathcote advised that from the good barrier it would be the intention to have the horse ridden in a forward position. The horse was ridden accordingly. Bumped on the hind quarters by MEYIWA HITAM MAWAR inside the 50m, was turned out and became unbalanced.

MEYIWA HITAM MAWAR – Hung out after passing the 400m. Had a tendency to lay in under pressure over the final 100m and made contact with the hind quarters of JOEL, resulting in rider R. Fradd becoming unbalanced and having to stop riding.

Race 6: SCHWEPPES F&M CLASS 3 H'CAP – 1200M

LOOSE GOOSE – Hung out rounding the home turn and in the home straight.

WILD AVA – Held up for a short distance just after rounding the home turn. When questioned regarding his riding tactics after passing the 600m, J. Byrne stated that he rode the mare in the same manner as he has ridden her previously and he decided to remain following SNOW FIELDS, which he believed would take him into the race rounding the home turn. He said he felt this option was much better than restraining and shifting four wide around LIMITED to improve. He added that upon straightening he was slightly held up for a short distance until he was able to improve to the inside of LIMITED and he felt this may have cost his mount some ground, however, in his opinion, had he elected to go wider, he would have lost more ground and that the option he took was the best option open to him to allow his mount to finish the race off. Stewards accepted his explanation.

IN AKITA – Slow to begin. Rider J. Lloyd reported that the mare was coughing on pulling up. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be exhibiting a cough and an upper respiratory tract noise. Trainer K. Doughty was advised that the horse will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.
