Race 1: G.J. WALSH ACCOUNTING SERVICES CLASS 1 PLATE – 2150M

KIJITO – Began awkwardly.

MUCH DEEPER – Improved into the race four wide after passing the 800m. When asked to comment on the perceived improved performance of the gelding, trainer P. Nipperess stated that at its most recent start the horse was ridden off the speed and when asked to improve into the race, it had runners to its outside, which he believed the gelding may resent. Today, with a step up in distance and on a track on which the gelding has performed creditably previously, he expected a more forward showing. He added that, consistent with previous instructions to riders, the gelding does not appreciate racing inside other runners, instead preferring clear racing room, and with the horse being ridden in that manner today, he felt that it was given a much better chance to perform at its best.

CHECKMATE LAD – Raced three wide without cover after passing the 800m. Slightly inconvenienced approaching the 600m when LI’L RODGE shifted out. The veterinary surgeon reported that the colt had sustained a small laceration to the near hind cannon.

LI’L RODGE – Had to be steadied away from the heels of HOOVESGOTCHA approaching the winning post on the first occasion when that runner laid in away from KIJITO. Again had to be steadied from the heels of HOOVESGOTCHA passing the 1600m and made the turn out of the home straight awkwardly. Trainer B. Currie’s stable representative reported that the colt may have got its tongue over the bit during the race.

PERFECT WITNESS – After racing in a prominent position throughout the gelding commenced to weaken after passing the 600m and finished in a rearward position. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the horse to be suffering from cardiac arrhythmia. Connections were advised that before racing again the horse must trial satisfactorily and a veterinary clearance, including the results of an ECG, must be produced.

THE IRONS – Hampered on jumping. E. Ljung reported that her mount hung out throughout.

WAKE UP VICTA – Slightly hampered on jumping. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.

Race 2: ROSS LLEWELLYN MOTORS CLASS 3 H’CAP – 1390M

DOT PAINTING – Began awkwardly and bumped HOTEL COSTE.

HOTEL COSTE – Began awkwardly and then was bumped shortly after.

LAUDIT – Slow into stride.

SAME OLD – Slow to begin.

CHOPPA – Commenced to overrace when in a trailing position after passing the 800m and when being restrained threw its head on a number of occasions. Had a tendency to lay in rounding the home turn.

Race 3: HEISENBERG HAUS 2YO CLASS 3 H’CAP – 1200M

FALVELINO – Commenced to lay out after passing the 700m.

LUCKY CHAMPION – Laid out rounding the home turn.

RED DOULTON – Had to be steadied slightly approaching the 900m when awkwardly placed at the heels of LUCKY CHAMPION, which shifted in.

TRAIL OF GLORY – Slow to begin.

Race 4: WHITTINGTON @ GRANDVIEW STUD QTIS 3YO MAIDEN H’CAP – 1200M

BACK CHAT – Began awkwardly. Commenced to overrace passing the 800m and had to be restrained from heels. Commenced to lay in under riding approaching the 100m, causing its rider to stop riding and straighten.

NOWISEVERYTHING – Slightly inconvenienced when cramped for room after passing the 100m.

SATURN OPS – Began awkwardly.

MY DELILAH – Laid out slightly rounding the home turn.

SPLIT THE BILL – Blundered of its own accord and became unbalanced when racing in restricted room passing the 400m. When asked to comment on the horse’s performance, J. Lloyd said the filly travelled comfortably for the majority of the race but prior to the 400m, when MOTHER TO RACE HER improved to the outside, he asked the filly to quicken, however it failed to do so. He added that even though the filly was slightly inconvenienced rounding the home turn, he felt it did not finish the race off as expected and may have been slightly disappointing today.

THOR FOOT – Slow to begin.

Race 5: UNDER THE LOUVRE @ GRANDVIEW STUD MAIDEN H’CAP – 1350M

The start was delayed slightly when ZAFOX, which had been kicked by another runner behind the barriers, was examined by the veterinary surgeon and passed fit to race.

THE ADMINISTRATOR – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Commenced to overrace passing the 1100m and had to be restrained from heels.

TONY’S DECREE – Raced three wide without cover throughout. Had to be steadied slightly after passing the 500m when awkwardly placed at the heels of GRAND WHISPER, which shifted out to improve.

GREY COURT – A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings other than that the horse had cast the off fore plate. Trainer P. Duff advised that after arriving back at his stables the colt was found to be shin sore and would be sent for a spell.

MADAM MAHAL – Threw its head in the air on jumping away. Improved on to the heels of the weakening ZAFOX over the final 50m, resulting in the rider having to stop riding, and went to the line without being fully tested.

TAPROCK – Stood flat-footed as the start was effected and lost considerable ground.

Following the running of this event stewards, in the presence of a delegation of senior riders, inspected a section of the track between the 500m and the 400m. Jockeys were of the view that the inside section between those two points was inferior, however, after discussing the matter with fellow riders, all riders were comfortable to continue with the remaining races.

Race 6: SELECT FLOORING QLD CLASS 3 PLATE – 800M

The start time of this race was rescheduled to 3:55 pm.

GREEDY – Slow to begin.

SNITCH – Slightly held up rounding the home turn.

ZENKALI – Slightly inconvenienced when racing in restricted room approaching the 400m.

SHE’S A MITZY – Hung out after passing the 400m.

After riding in this race, all riders riding in the final race confirmed their willingness to fulfil their engagements and proceed with Race 7.

Race 7: BLUE DOGS SPORTS BENCHMARK 60 H’CAP – 1350M

Due to the rescheduling of Race 6, this race was run at approximately 4:25pm.

JUST AS LOYAL – Slow into stride. When questioned regarding the horse’s improved performance, trainer M. Callaghan explained that at the gelding’s previous start it was first up following an 8-week let-up and over a shorter trip, which may have been unsuitable for the gelding. He thought that a fitness edge second up today and a step up in distance to 1350m, as well as a drop back in class, could have been to the gelding’s advantage today. Mr Callaghan further advised that he had only a small wager on the gelding and was somewhat surprised by the win today.

TRIPLE JEOPARDY – Proved difficult to load.

CHAMPAGNE ROCK – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn.

HIGHTOWER – Raced wide in the early stages before pressing forward to obtain a position outside the leader passing the 900m. Laid in in the home straight.

TOPENDING – Slow to begin.
