Race 1: REAL PROPERTY LEGAL MAIDEN H’CAP – 1025M
 
As B. Stewart was unable to arrive on course on time to fulfil his engagement, J. Orman was substituted as the rider of SWIFTLY MANGO.
 
The declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow stewards to view the patrol footage of the start to determine whether SPEND UP had been afforded a fair start. After viewing the video and taking evidence from rider M. Hellyer, stewards were satisfied that as the start was effected SPEND UP, which had been fractious in the barriers, simultaneously turned its head in the barriers, placing its nose on the side barrier partition and then began awkwardly and lost considerable ground. Stewards were of the view that had it not been for the horse’s manners it was otherwise afforded a fair start and declared it a runner.
 
SWIFTLY MANGO – Raced three wide without cover throughout.
 
ZARAFET – Overraced and had to be restrained from heels when racing in a trailing position in the early and middle stages.
 
SPEND UP – Fractious in the barriers. Turned its head as the start was effected, making contact with the barrier partition, began awkwardly and lost considerable ground, trailing the field throughout.
 
Race 2: KURTZ CONSTRUCTIONS CLASS 4 H’CAP – 1350M
 
TAIKO BOOM – Held up rounding the home turn and then had some difficulty securing clear running in the early part of the home straight.
 
SCOUTABOUT – Bumped heavily by RITCHFORD approaching the 1000m and became unbalanced.
 
RITCHFORD – Unable to muster early speed and therefore settled in a rearward position. Bumped another runner approaching the 1000m. When questioned, jockey T. Harrison stated that RITCHFORD was unable to muster early speed and hold a forward position, which were her instructions. She said that in her opinion the gelding may not have been suited by an inside barrier today, which on previous occasions she felt has not suited the gelding. She added that after settling in a rearward position the gelding never travelled and proved disappointing. She further added that the gelding has raced in a similar manner previously and proved disappointing when not allowed to dictate in a race. She was of the opinion that a step up in distance and drawing a wider barrier may provide an opportunity for the gelding to race in a more forward position, which would be more suitable to its manner of racing.
 
Race 3: K&R PLUMBING SUPPLIES & AVG VALVES MAIDEN H’CAP – 1350M
 
ADVANCE WARNING – Began awkwardly. Commenced to hang out shortly after the start and did so for the remainder of the event, and after passing the 600m took no competitive part in the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. Trainer T. Gollan was advised that the gelding would be required to trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to racing again.
 
LOLA’S DIAMOND – Bumped heavily on jumping and lost ground. Lost the off fore plate in running.
 
MAGLEV – Slow to begin.
 
FAT MAX – Raced three wide without cover throughout.
 
BATTEN – Had to be steadied away from the heels of CONQUER THE STARS (B. Thornton) approaching the 1000m when that runner shifted in when not fully clear. Apprentice B. Thornton was reprimanded and advised to ensure he is sufficiently clear when shifting ground.
 
MEANER – Began awkwardly and shifted out. Commenced to overrace and raced in restricted room for a short distance approaching the 1000m.
 
MAI TAI RAIN – After leading in the early stages the horse commenced to weaken after passing the 400m and finished in a rearward position. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.
 
Race 4: K&R PLUMBING SUPPLIES & RINNAI HOT WATER CLASS 3 H’CAP – 1200M
 
Due to the prevailing conditions stewards permitted M. Hellyer to ride COMMANDATORE half a kilogram over its allocated weight.
 
LITTLE JOHN, which dislodged J. Oliver whilst proceeding to the barriers and then galloped a full circuit of the course before being recaptured, was declared a late scratching at 11:55 am by order of stewards.On the announcement of correct weight stewards ordered that all monies invested on LITTLE JOHN be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers:

16 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #3
 
SUGAR SIZZLE – Began awkwardly and was then bumped shortly after.
 
BRAVO UNCLE BILLY – Slow into stride.
 
COMMANDATORE – Began awkwardly and shifted in.
 
Race 5: K&R PLUMBING SUPPLIES & PIPEMAKERS CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1710M
 
As R. Maloney was not riding due to injury, M. McGillivray was substituted as the rider of FULL DIAMOND.
 
NEVER IN DOUBT – Began awkwardly and lost considerable ground. Jockey B. Stewart explained that after being moderately away and travelling in a rearward position the gelding never really travelled throughout the event and when placed under pressure rounding the home turn failed to respond to his riding and proved disappointing. Jockey Stewart was of the opinion that the gelding may not have backed up from its run the previous week. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings, however the veterinary surgeon noted that the horse is a recognised roarer.
 
FULL DIAMOND – Slightly hampered approaching the 400m by ERROL, which laid in.
 
IRON CRAFT – Connections advised that the horse would be ridden more forward if circumstances permit. The horse was ridden accordingly. Overraced and had to be restrained from heels when racing in a handy trailing position in the early stages.
 
ERROL – Shifted three wide when the pace slackened after passing the 1100m and improved to race outside the leader passing the 800m. Laid in slightly whilst weakening approaching the 400m.
 
PANALLEY – Began awkwardly.
 
DEE CEE DELIGHTS – Cramped for racing room passing the 400m when tightened by FULL DIAMOND, which was taken in by ERROL.
 
Race 6: HARMONY BATHROOM PRODUCTS QTIS 3YO BENCHMARK 65 H’CAP – 1200M
 
Due to a malfunction with the starting button, this race was started manually by the starter.
 
SAY I CEE YOU – Slow to begin and then failed to muster early speed. Raced wide rounding the home turn. Bumped with LOVE YOU LUCY passing the 300m.
 
ARCHER’S TREASURE – Laid out shortly after the start, tightening runners to the outside.
 
REAL ESTATE – Laid out slightly under pressure over the final 150m.
 
HOT SOCK – Began awkwardly.
 
ESKDALE GIRL – Had to be steadied away from the heels of ARCHER’S TREASURE shortly after the start when that runner shifted out, and then a few strides later was awkwardly placed at the heels of REAL ESTATE.
 
LOVE YOU LUCY – Began awkwardly. Bumped with SAY I CEE YOU passing the 300m. Laid in under pressure over the final 100m, causing its rider to stop riding on a number of occasions.
 
Race 7: K&R PLUMBING SUPPLIES CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1350M
 
THE LAUNCHER – Laid out slightly over the final 50m and made contact with KIRIN’S LAD.
 
CINNABON – Had to be steadied away from heels on a number of occasions in the early and middle stages and raced three wide for some distance.
 
KIRIN’S LAD – Laid in under pressure over the final 50m and made contact with THE LAUNCHER. C. Eaton was reminded of her obligations regarding use of the whip prior to the 100m. When questioned, the stable representative for trainer T. White explained that the gelding was resuming from a significant spell and had worked well leading into today’s event, and without participating in a jump-out or a trial, they were quietly confident of a forward showing on its recent work. Stewards noted the explanation.
