GENERAL

Owing to the rescheduling of this meeting to today and a change in the rail to the true position, the race distances for Races 5 and 6 were altered from 1710m to 1666m.

The following riders were not riding at today’s meeting: F. Jervis (acceptable reasons); L. Cheshire (riding at another venue); C. Gallagher (ill). D. Smith was not riding in Race 3 for acceptable reasons. Riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

Race 1: CARLTON MID QTIS 2YO MAIDEN PLATE – 800M

EXPLORATION – Bumped close to the finish line.

INVESTIBLE – Slow to begin.

LUCKY SENATOR – The saddle shifted over the final 200m, which placed rider R. Goltz at a disadvantage.

OUR BOY BORRIS – Began awkwardly.

FIRERISE – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Raced wide throughout.

TIMELY BEL – Shifted out close to the finish line and bumped EXPLORATION.

Race 2: SIRROMET CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1200M

I AM LEXUS – Shifted out under pressure over the final 100m.

MARSTON – Inclined to lay out for the majority of the event. When asked to comment on the horse’s below market performance, T. Harrison stated that the colt travelled well in the early and middle stages, however after leaving the 600m commenced to hang out and was disappointing. Trainer B. Hull stated that this was the first occasion on which the horse has raced in a clockwise direction  and advised that he would now freshen the horse up and make gear adjustments prior to its next race start. Stewards advised Mr Hull that a warning would be placed on the horse for hanging. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.

SOLITARY ROSE – Slow to begin.

MEGASHOT – Became fractious after being loaded into the barriers, resulting in the blinkers becoming displaced and requiring adjustment. Began awkwardly and lost ground.

BROWN LINES – Raced three wide without cover in the early stages.

Race 3: SCHWEPPES QTIS 3YO MAIDEN H'CAP – 1350M

STARBUSTER – B. Stewart dropped his whip at the 150m.

EXTRACTION – Crowded approaching the 400m. BOOM ROCKER, which was trailing, had to be steadied away from heels as a consequence.

ARC OF GOLD – Raced three wide throughout. Laid in approaching the 400m, momentarily crowding EXTRACTION.

BOOM ROCKER – Had to be momentarily steadied away from heels leaving the 700m and again approaching the 400m.

DRAGON IN THE NORTH – Had to be resaddled on arrival at the barriers. Disappointed for a run near the 100m and was obliged to alter course inwards to obtain clear running.

GABE THE BABE – Slow to begin. Performed uncompetitively. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to have a superficial laceration to the offside hock and a slow post-race recovery. Trainer B. Robinson was advised that the horse would be barred from racing at TAB venues until it establishes form.

Race 4: QUEENSLAND TIMES MAIDEN H'CAP – 1350M

BENZ EXPRESS – Began awkwardly.

MIGHTY MOOSE – Overraced in the early and middle stages.

SMOKIN’ HUSSAY – Taken wider rounding the home turn. When asked to comment on the below market performance, R. Fradd stated that his mount never travelled at any stage of the race and failed to let down when asked for a effort and in his opinion did not appreciate today’s racing surface. Trainer R. Lipp concurred with the comments of jockey Fradd that in his opinion the horse did not handle today’s prevailing track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

SLIGHTLY SHADY – D. Smith reported that from the wider draw it was not his intention to lead, however, after beginning well, runners to his inside did not show the anticipated pace and as a result he elected to progress forward and take up the lead near the 1200m.

Race 5: SKY RACING CLASS 2 H'CAP – 1666M

IRON CRAFT – M. Du Plessis reported at scale that in his opinion his mount is better suited on a softer track than that of today’s surface.

VOANABA – Slow to begin.

SNAPPY DIAMOND – Slow to begin.

SPECIAL THING – Inclined to lay in the early and middle stages of the event.

Race 6: RAY WHITE IPSWICH MAIDEN H'CAP – 1666M

LUCADEAL – B. Stewart was reprimanded for using the whip on 9 occasions prior to the 100m. In determining penalty, stewards took into account B. Stewart’s totality of whip use.

LOTUS LEAF – Had to be steadied away from heels near the 1000m.

BEYOND STYLE – Raced three wide throughout.

COSMIC KITTY – Slow to begin.

Race 7: CHANNEL SEVEN CLASS 3 H'CAP – 1350M

TORQUATO TASSO – Performed disappointingly. When asked to comment on the horse’s performance, L. Tilley stated that the gelding began well and travelled comfortably in the lead until the 400m, however, weakened considerably from that point. Trainer Ms R. Smith’s representative, Mr R. Smith, advised stewards that the gelding had been in work for a considerable time and the stable would now consider spelling the horse. Stewards will contact Ms Smith in coming days regarding the horse’s post-race recovery. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

OUR ROCK O’REILLY – Caught wide in the early stages of the event before progressing forward to race outside the leader at the 800m.
