Race 1 - Swichettes | Maiden Handicap | 800 metres
Little Miss Sunday – Jumped outwards at the start and lost ground.
Seventy Below – Began awkwardly.
Dream Piece – Slow to begin. Steadied from the heels of Seventy Below near the 500m. Following this, Dream Piece raced ungenerously and hung out badly rounding the home turn and as a result lost significant ground. Trainer S. Morrisey was advised that the horse must trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to racing again.
Miss Katniss – Lost the off hind plate in running.
Leica Firecracker – Hung out approaching and rounding the home turn.
Race 2 – Switch On Inc. | Class 3 Plate | 1200 metres
Boom Boy – B. Stewart was fined $100 for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m.
I’m Favulous – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
Race 3 – Deb Harding QTIS Three-Years-Old | Maiden Handicap | 1200 metres
Lucky Spirit – Hung out rounding the home turn, taking another runner wider. Trainer T. Edmonds was advised that a warning would be placed on the filly’s racing manners. R. Maloney was reprimanded for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m. In assessing penalty, stewards took into account that his mount was hanging out rounding the home turn and that jockey Maloney used the whip on a couple of occasions in an attempt to correct the horse and attempt it from hanging out further on the track.
Molinari – Slow to begin.
Let’s Boom – Hampered when taken wider rounding the home turn by Lucky Spirit, which hung out.
Race 4 – Savco | BenchMark 62 Handicap | 1666 metres
Addicted – B. Pengelly was unable to offer any reasonably explanation for today’s disappointing performance, adding that he was not entirely comfortable with the gelding’s action. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.
Golden Sheaf – Could not muster any early speed despite the urgings of its rider.
Second Thought – Hung in under pressure in the home straight.
Bravo Uncle Billy – Jumped awkwardly, shifted in and bumped Angela’s Beauty.
Unique Mistique – Unable to improve approaching the home turn.
Angela’s Beauty – Bumped at the start. Overraced in the early stages. Inclined to lay out rounding the home turn. Stewards questioned trainer B. Guy regarding the horse’s improved performance. Mr Guy explained that the mare has raced well in the past racing over a similar distance to that of today’s event or further. He added that at its most recent start over 1400m, although the mare ran 9th, it was only beaten 4.7 lengths and was hampered near the 200m and unable to secure clear running over the final stages and he was not disappointed with that performance. Stewards noted his explanation.
Red Calvary – Restrained soon after the start to the rear of the field to gain a position close to the rail.
Race 5 – Savige Pest Control | Class 2 Handicap | 1000 metres
Red Devil – Lost the off fore plate in running.
Crazy Pops – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
Duke of Frederick – Slow to begin. Had difficulty obtaining clear running in the home straight and after passing the 200m had to be steadied when attempting a narrow run between Purple Cup and Red Devil when Red Devil shifted out slightly.
Man in Motion – Bumped on the hind quarters at the start.
The Lawyer – Jumped awkwardly, shifted in and bumped the hind quarters of Man in Motion. Had to be checked after passing the 400m to avoid the heels of Fame and Fortune, which shifted in when not clear. Apprentice H. Phillips, the rider of Fame and Fortune pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) in that her actions caused the interference to The Lawyer. Apprentice Phillips’ licence to ride in races was suspended for 11 days, to commence at midnight on Saturday 9 March and expire at midnight on Wednesday 20 March 2019. Following this interference the gelding had some difficulty securing clear running in the early part of the home straight. In determining penalty, stewards took into account apprentice Phillips’ guilty plea and good record as well as that the interference was in the mid-range.
Purple Cup – Began very awkwardly, which resulted in apprentice L. Kilner becoming unbalanced in the saddle. Hung out rounding the home turn.
Your Option – Became awkward at the heels of Man in Motion approaching the home turn and had to be steadied.
Race 6 – Hospice Care Inc. Fillies and Mares | Class 1 Handicap | 1350 metres
Wicked Mama – Raced three wide without cover.
Lady Eighty Eight – Had to be steadied near the 100m to avoid the heels of Glamorous Miss when that runner shifted out. R. Fradd, the rider of Glamorous Miss, was issued with a reprimand and advised to show far greater care when shifting ground in the future.
Glamorous Miss – Shifted out under pressure after passing the 200m.
Instantaneous – Overraced in the early stages.
Flying Colours – Slow to begin. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn. Obliged to alter course near the 100m to the inside of Zollikon Miss in order to improve.
Race 7 – Bakehouse Steakhouse Colts, Geldings and Entires | Class 1 Handicap | 1350metres
Dreamtimer – Shifted in passing the 1200m and made contact with The Irons.
Real Estate – Bumped by Red Monkey over the final stages.
